I know this is rare, but from day one I suspected the hospital my daughter was born it made a mistake and switch her at birth. I have several different reasons for this. Does anybody know what is the first step in finding out if this happend. I did see the medical reports and they say alot of things I was not aware of at the time. Since this was my first baby and I was all alone, I did not know what to look out for. Please anybody

Have a dna test done ... did you ever do that? I read your other discussion about your daughter graduating so I am assuming she is what, 17? 18? I know that in the last 10 years at least, security at hospitals has been much much better than it used to be. My daughter is 7 and I remember I was not able to sleep in the hospital AT ALL. My husband was there with me but I was paranoid completely, making sure that if she was not ON ME, she was ON HIM, and if she EVER left the room and was out of my sight for one second, HE was there with her. She had a little tiny bracelet on her ankle and we both had wristbands and they told me if the anklet on her got anywhere outside a certain range they'd lockdown the maternity section of the hospital so nobody could get in or out. I was still paranoid. It took me 10 years to have her, I was definitely selfish, you betcha.

I know now I can have a dna but now I am scared. I like how you and your husband handling your baby.I wish they had that security at my time. I did get to see some records and some things were not right. They cannot be explained so a dna would be in order. Very poor hospital practices

In today's day and age it is extremely rare for the mistake to happen that a baby be switched at birth. However, if you really think that your daughter is not your child, the first thing that you should do is get a DNA test done. If that were to determine that she is not your daughter, then you could hire a lawyer and a private investigator to help you to find the child that actually is your flesh and blood. I hope that your daughter was not switched at birth.

Thank you for the info. Sounds like a good idea. I hope I am wrong. I know we don't have the same blood type, but DNA is further.

The best way to determine this is to have a paternity test done. It will test blood types and compare the mother and the baby's bloods to determine if they match up. I highly doubt that this would happen as most hospitals don't have nurseries anymore, the baby usually sleeps in the mother's room until they go home. I really don't think your baby was switched, it's just not really possible anymore.

woah! that is a rare incident. you could go back to the hospital and say your thoughts there. give the reasons why you said you doubt the baby.

I would have to say starting at the hospital where the baby was born. If hey made a mistake they have to go through the full efforts to determine if yes and or no. Then they will have to go through all means and steps to find out why and where your biological baby is at. I am truly sorry and would not be able to imagine how tough this has to be. You may need some legal advice as surely the hospital will not immediately accept their error. Good luck and hope all goes well.

if its ok with you and your husband, you can have a dna test together with your baby.
