The most absurd gift you had to pretend you liked as a child.

It think it was the year where I got a quite frankly ugly sweater that looked like it was made by a blind person. I had to pretend that I liked it, at the prodding of my parents, but I can even tell that they were a bit repulsed. It mysterious vanished soon after we got home. Perhaps mysterious vanished into the trash can. Was there a gift that required a great acting job to pretend you liked as a child?

LOL. I don't always receive lots of gifts so whenever someone gives me one, I'll be totally happy to accept it even if the content is something I don't really like.

There are times where its just a lot better to just smile. Some people I think appreciate gifts more because they do not receive them. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Well i don't remember my chilhood much as far as i remember there was situation like this.It was long when it was my 12th birthday and there was a huge party organised and everyone in the family and friends were invited.I was very overwhelmed by all this my parents did for me. The guests started to come and so were the gifts piling up which was a really pretty sight for me as i was hungry for gifts at that time and i guess my birthday was more like a gift day for me.It was the time after the party got over and we returned home and start to open gifts and then i saw a shirt with some crazy prints on it i didn't like it, it was from my uncle he is always with the crazy gifts and i think don't use to like most of them but whenever he asks about it i just happily say "It was awesome uncle, you are the best".

I think there are certain types of gifts that you expect from people. It is just something that it is good form to be polite about. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Gifting, (like most other things about Christmas) is often taken out of context. A Gift should be presented because the recipient is deserving of it, rather than it being presented because of an annual occasion. This leads to absurd gifts, and confusion. Christmas is an all-round absurd celebration. that (if you take a minute to think about it) makes no sense at all, except that it generates money for some while taking money from others. Christmas as a whole is an Ungodly pit of confused mystification. (What a Scam!)

Most things are life can be quite absurd when you think about it. Life just doesn't make sense. People tend to get caught up in the trap of feeling that they have to give something but they do not know what. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Now, it's really weird us getting gifts that we don't really like because it's really weird. Anyways, I like receiving gifts as a child but I can't remember if I received a gift I don't like because the one thing I can remember is that we were taught to appreciate every gift we receive. But the gift I can remember which I really don't like was the gift I got my boss sort of, second in command boss, lady boss for that matter. It was Christmas time and the office were having the traditional kris kringle thing. I got from her a drinking straw holder the one you can see at eateries. The others were shocked literally during the opening of gifts but I was still all smiles and appreciated her thoughtfulness LOL Anyways the straw holder was used once when we had a party at home. And it's still there somewhere in the cabinet. Reminds me to give it away to someone who needed it the most.

I commend you for your brave face and smiling through it. I can only imagine what could be running through my mind if I should receive something like that. What a useless gift. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I remembered getting a cheap snack as a present on Christmas day and that really annoyed be but my mom said I should heartfully accept it and like it even though I was really irritated. I made an effort in giving people present at that time that I couldn't see the point in getting an effortless one.

Yeah I always try to put in an effort. If I have no idea to give someone, I go to the old standby and give something them something everyone can use, cash. I think most people would rather receive cash than a gift that is not to their tastes. That way they can buy something that they can use. Thank you for your response. It was much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

A simple communication failure is common. Something that I was into or doing last year, might not be still to my tastes this year. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Well, my mother in law was a terrible gift giver. She did most of her shopping at the dollar store, and gave my kids some really ridiculous gifts. Usually it was stuffed animals that didn't smell very good because her house was always dirty. Sometimes it would be a card game for a child too young to understand how to play. I can't even think of all the awful gifts my kids got, because there were so many! I got some awful gifts from her too.. a necklace that broke the moment I touched it, some underwear.. from my husband's mother!! Usually all the gifts we got from her would go in the trash right after she left. She passed away earlier this year. Now my father in law takes my hubby with him when he buys gifts for my kids. Tomorrow is the twins' birthday and hubby and his father did the shopping yesterday. They picked out gifts that my kids will love!

A lot of cheap things it looks like. Token gifts in other words. It sounds awful to be sure. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I got lots of great gifts when I was a child but the one 'bad' gift that stands out is, like you, a sweater. My mother went throught a knitting phase and at the age of 12 I was presented with a home made, bright red knitted sweater with a huge Mickey Mouse head on the front. Being the fabulous daughter that I am I dare not say what I really thought of it, so I put it on and only ever wore it around the house after christmas day.

Yeah on one hand, you've got to appreciate the time that is put in the gift. On the other hand, in the back of my mind, you wonder what people might think if you wear it out in public. You just smile and nod. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Not really. But I tell the person who gave me that thank you for the gift. But with my other aunt who gives crazy impractical and so ugly gifts, I do not say anything not even a thank you as the person getting their gifts wont be so thankful for it in anyway! There are people who gives things that they think you would like, and there are people who would give stuffs even if they think you would not like but gives them anyway just for the sake of " giving" but actually, no thoughts are in those. I have an aunt who gave me expired lotions, facial washes, old bags that has cobwebs on them, a planner that was dated way back 1985! a fake casio baby G! who in their right mind will be thankful for that?! I would love to get just a BRAND NEW even a P20 hair scrunchies.. than an old smelly, " branded" stuff..

Giving stuff for the sake of giving, that does sum up a lot of people. As I have said, whatever makes them sleep well at night. There are things that do make me think what they were thinking. Whether I was receiving it or it was a gift that someone else would receive. No one is perfect I guess. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

LOL... I can relate to you. as a child, I'm expecting toys, cute dresses,or something special item suitable to my age. My sister gave me a box of underwear. I was hiding my frustration that time. But I still use the underwear, afterall its a necessity.

I think that there are certain gifts that you need. However, they just are not something that you like to receive. Underwear would be at the top of the list for many. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Haha. I have an aunt that was notorious for giving some...questionable gifts. I tried not to be ungrateful and I always smiled and thanked her copiously, but it was very strange when one year she gave me the gift of clothing that was way too big for me. I think it was something she'd received herself, or for someone else that she re-gifted to me, because it happened quite often around the holidays. Once, she also gave me a spa-like package of facial soaps/creams, but it had already been open. So yeah, I appreciate the thought, but it was a little sketchy. Haha.

Yeah there were a couple of times where either it was a gift I got or one of my parents got that I wondered. It sounded like gifts they did not want, that they tried to pass it onto someone else. Very sketchy indeed. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.
