http://www.haaretz.com/print-edition/news/arab-man-who-posed-as-jew-to-seduce-woman-convicted-of-rape-1.302895 So where do you draw the line at making yourself more appealing to your date? Have you ever lied to please your date? One man did and it landed him in jail with a rape conviction because he said he was Jewish when in fact he was Arab. So if you lie about your religion you could get 18 months in jail? Seems like this was more of a political statement of racism than rape.

since your source has been questioned i found another: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-11329429 ok, there was more to the story, there usually is. however the man in question WAS convicted of rape by deception for passing himself off as a jewish bachelor when in fact he was a married, muslim father of two and got jailed.

I really appreciate the effort you have put in jb78000. It because of members like you, that I am still sticking in mylot. It is not everyday, that you get such good responses. Hats off to you. Continue your good work.. Regarding this woman, I feel she is a menace and should be locked up in an assylum, and must have some medical treatment.

Interesting. Based on her history it's hard to say, but regardless, I don't support the charge he was convicted on. As for this woman, that's a pretty rough history. Based on her past issues it's possible the bruises mentioned were from a previous encounter. It's also a bit odd that she's been a victim of abuse so many times. That's just a weird story all around. Nice job finding a source with a different take on it. As you saw, all the ones I found just reiterated the original story.

Honestly if this happened in the US I think it would put an end to cheating over night but I don't see any way a judge would uphold this kind of conviction especially in today's day and age.

Especially with internet dating being so popular people would be in court every day.

I certainly think it is racism. I never thought that a mordern state like Israel will have laws like this. In our country there has been many cases, where the girl or the boy have hidden their true religion. They were not prosecuted for rape, but if the complaints came it was only for cheating.

I was just going through jb78000 response, and I find it a clear case of both racism and religious discrimination. In our country, if a complain was made by such a woman, it will thrown out of the courts immediately, and the woman would have been sent to an assylum. This clearly shows, that Israelites do not like Arabs, or Muslims.Mind you I also do not like Islam and its flawed policies, but to punish an innocent person just because he was born in that religion, is very very bad. If it had happened in an Islamic state, where there is no rule, I would not have bothered, but when in happens in a democratic state like Israel, a state whom I really admire is quite disturbing.

not sure racism is the correct word here maybe it should be religious discrimination....whatever it is I wouldn't want to be sitting in jail because I lied about my religion on a date...

Does that mean men in Israel can start suing women who wear makeup or a bra because they're not as pretty or perky as they lead the man on to believe? I can't believe any authority would take this seriously.

Lol! Brilliant response! What about the next time a girl claims she's a virgin when she's not?

That is not the truth about that story...The truth was printed months ago. The man was an Arab. He did not represent himself as a Jew...It was a blatant case of Rape. It was just reported as a date rape because the woman had a "history". They figured that this would "get the man off". It was a Brutal Rape. The woman was beated and brutalized. Haaretz is a "Rag" not a decent newspaper. Just because it is printed in English so that you can read it does not make it a reputable paper. Check your story before you put a Post here....

i have found a reputable source - see below. yes there was a bit more to the story. i think it might have been rape (the woman was bruised) but he wasn't convicted of that. he was convicted of 'rape by deception' for passing himself off as a jewish bachelor. it isn't a nice story but get past the religious angle (ok, maybe that is impossible in this area) and this is a very strange law indeed.

on this one i am not certain what actually happened - the woman doesn't seem stable but she was bruised. what is indisputable though is that the man's getting jailed, not for assault, but for rape by deception for passing himself off as a jewish bachelor.

Adoniah, This was not the original website I read it on but followed it to this one from two others that said the same thing. After reading the link jb78000 posted it still doesn't put it in the same spot light as you did so do you have a source that represents the opinion you would like us to see that directly contradicts all the others?

I don't want to comment the story because I can't read a local source of information - I mean other than english versions of newspapers. But I'd like to notice that it's not easy to judge a reality which is so different from yours. We know what happens in the Middle East. Is it right to call racist Israelis who doesn't like Arabs? We shouldn't forget that Arabs hate Israelis too. Maybe this man wanted to violate the woman because she is Istaeli? And the fact that the man pretended to be a Jew reminds me another thing. Arab and local Jews look the same, you can't distinguish them. I remember at least one case when a young man, looking like a Jew, sat at a table at a coffee shop and the next minute his bad blew up.

So what happens in the Middle East is grounds for convicting a guy on lying about his religion?

There was a case here in the U.S. a while back in which a woman tried to have a man prosecuted for rape because he lied about being a doctor. I don't recall how the case came out though. Seems there were also several civil suits filed for similar reasons at some point too.
