I have never shopped on a black friday..but I know a few people that swear by it. I'm thinking it's great if you're buying big ticket items..What do you say? do you shop on Black fridays?

I have gone a few years, and might go this year too. I do not go for big ticket items.. I'll usually go for the deals on toys and clothes. I've got 5 kids to shop for and not a lot of money, so every little bit helps. I may not be saving hundreds of dollars like those who buy the big ticket stuff, but $5 here and there really adds up for us.

I'm with you there..I can't afford the big stuff either. I'm a single mom of two kids..my son wants a few wii games and I'm wondering if it'd be worth it.

Hi Rachell I guess that would depend on wether or not you got what you wanted for the price you wanted without getting trampled on...I don't think its worth getting up at 3 in the morning to go shopping I'm still sleeping from Thanksgiving and recovering from all the cooking cleaning and of course eating...besides theres nothing I want that I can't get the week before or the week after Christmas

Cheryd41 - I never have done the 3am shopping. I never left the house on Black Fridays. Nothing I wanted bad enough to do all that! Plus, I have noticed, the stores have some doorbusters for certain times, and when they are gone, the sale price is there for the rest of the weekend or until the stock is gone so no big deal and since there will be other sales....why bother! Rachelle - I went to Walmart on Thanksgiving Day - was all alone and just got tired of sitting here alone so I went...lot of people there, small lines but again...sales were normal. They had some doorbuster things that would be for the next day, but nothing I was wanting. Then I went to Target at 7L30am on Black Friday and it was nearly empty. I saw the barrels and things for the doorbuster sales, but they were still half full most of them! I saw the RCA portable DVD player for $49 in the paper that morning and thought I'd get that...went in and asked at the electronics dept if they had any left, he picked one up off the counter right there and handed it to me! I thought they'd be out of them by that time! But then as I wandered the isle...there was a bunch of them on the shelf...I switched them as I thought maybe the one he gave me was a return or something and might have soemthing wrong with it but was amazed there was still so many left!

Wow, walmart must've stocked up! I saw on tv last night that they are having their "cyber Monday" sale starting today (sunday)...they had a blu-ray dvd for $49 and I thought that was a great deal! I think a lot of people aren't buying as much or shopping early due to the economy..I have to wait to shop at this time because I have a lot of bills due.

I drove by Target and Kmart on my way to work and they were swarming with people...I would totally hate that! And there was no way I was getting up that early just to shop either

I have before, and it depends on what you're buying. For big things like electronics - I feel like it might be worth it. But I don't buy those kind of gifts (the expensive kind lol). I don't have all too many people to shop for, probably less than 10, and I usually get it all done ahead of time. (Most of it, anyway). I also HATE crowds and HATE waiting in line, and so me going to a black friday sale is a recipe for a disaster. I am too impatient.

I'm so glad to know that I'm not the only one that dreads shopping!

Rachelle- I've met those who swear by it and those who don't think twice about it. I'm one who doesn't care for it. Nothing on my shopping list for the Yule is going to be found at any regular store that runs Black Friday sales so I tend to shop year round or online. This year almost everything I've gotten so far has been through online shops. Now, one woman did give me a special of no shipping fees since I was ordering a custom piece. I thought it sweet of her. Next month I'll be ordering a few more items online and then I'll pick up the last few items at a local store. Namaste-Anora

I never have shopped on a black friday, either. Actually, I never had heard of black friday until this year. I thought it was due to the economy, the reason why we were having one. Anyway, since I never have shopped on one, I don't know if it would be worth it or not.

If the friday after Thanksgiving is considered black friday, I have gone out and done a little christmas shopping on that day in the past. I've bought other things besides christmas gifts on that day, too. I haven't christmas shopped in years, though, due to my finances. Our family has gotten so big, too.

The term sure fits doesn't it? I wonder if the stores will see the same turnout or a downturn? Time will tell!

I've always wanted to go shopping during Black Friday, but I was too little too go when I lived in the US. By the way, doesn't Black Friday sound somewhat evil? :D

I have never gone shopping on black friday either. The one time I commented on that when a friend of mine was going shopping at toys r us for black friday. I said that I didnt see the point of going out in all that maddness to save a few dollars. She said its more of a matter of a few hundred dollars saved. She was right when I checked out the prices of things but I'd rather pay the regular price of things then have to go out early in the morning with my kids to shop and wait in those extremely long lines and fight to get the things I want or go to a store expecting to get things and find that it has been sold out when I got there.

Yeah I agree there-one year my son had a toy on his list that was out of stock like everywhere-and there I am last minute trying to find it.

They are extending it to being open on Thanksgiving Day and starting that night and continuing all day friday...seems like it is getting "worn out".

Yeah, they are kind of ruining a good thing. My daughter wasn't to happy this year...every store had a different time between midnight and 6am at which their "doorbusters" were at and she had a hard time organizing her time to get to them all like she used to so she just gave up, picked a few and went and got those things. Yeah, working a holiday does suck, but at the same time...federal hoidays are double time so at least they get a little more for their efforts.

That's sad...working retail sucks! I've been there done that and all the employees have to work if it's a holiday..it's kinda mandatory.

I never got double time when I worked...it was just mandatory that everyone took a shift so as to be fair I guess. Walmart had a class action lawsuit a year back because they would work you and not pay you for breaks or overtime. (I used to work there 10 years ago)

I used to shop Black Friday years ago. I worked for a lawfirm that would give us our yearly bonus the day before Thanksgiving. It worked out great because I would have plenty money to pay for Christmas presents and then some. I also knew someone that worked at a large department store in downtown Chicago so I would go in early with her on Friday and get the great bargains without waiting in the long lines. Of course that was a long time ago and now the only time you get me close to a mall is if my daughter begs me to go. I did go yesterday and stood in line at the fabric store for over 2 hours just so my daugther could get some fabric at some great prices.

I now live in Chattanooga, TN and our malls don't let children 16 and under after 6:00 p.m. without a parent. I actually think that is crazy. The last thing I want to do is walk around with my teenagers on a Friday night! I believe that rule went into effect about a year ago and I really disagree with it. I actually think I have heard of Casey, Illinois....We took a smaller country highway from St. Louis to Indianapolis, and I can vaguely remember going through that town...am I correct? Talk about a small world!!

I bet the big cities have the long lines for sure!! I came from ILL. You probably have never heard of where I'm from..LOL a small town called Casey, IL. I have family in the Chicago area-but I haven't been up there in a good 20 years-they all come down here for the warm weather LOL Our mall here is insanity-only because the teenagers flood it. There's nothing else for them to do so this is a good place for them..there's food, a movie theatre and security guards so they can't get into too much trouble

My mom's found some great deals on clotehs already. Me, I've ordered a DVD set that is at the cheapest price I've seen it for, and I've been waiting for it to go on sale4 for awhile. I'm currently earning money to pay it off, but I've got a lot getting very soon.
