I really have hard time breathing in our office because my boss is a chain smoker but I have no choice coz it is very hard to find a job today, if only there is a site were i can earn income, i'll quit my job. Do you have any experience with mine? How you handle it?

I am working at the office now. my boss often smoke in his room. I don't smoke so I get stuck when ever I go to his room. I often stop breath when I go to his room!

My boss too is a smoker even though our company is really famous and brings in billions of dollars an year. He has detached the smoke detectors in his room, and has made lots of air escape ducts that lead to the outside. Whenever he smokes, its usually into a tube that measures 5 by 5 inches. This tube suctions all the smoke and brings it outside. He even has about five air neutralizers if something happens and the smoke is noticeable.

Wow, I would imagine that has to be some kind of health risk. Smoking isn't allowed at my job - it's almost shocking that people would smoke indoors to begin with. Smoking really isn't allowed indoor - anywhere public - not in bars (99% of bars in my state are smoke-free) and offices also. I guess there's not a lot you can do but deal with it, unless your boss has a boss above HIM/HER, some sort of supervisor, that you can anonymously tell. I think smoking indoors at work is pretty unprofessional and maybe his supervisor doesn't know it's going on. Who knows - it's worth a shot!

OMG, yes! I use to have two bosses who chain-smoked their way through the day. We were always in a haze in the office, and I just hated how I smelled after the day is over. At that time, I was use to smokers as there were several people who smoked in the house. I was ever so glad to quit that job.

Its opposite here with me. First day my boss asked me if I do smoke I said yes that I do. He said I won't allow it in office I said nothing. After some days he found me smoking and said that he has already told me to not smoke here but still you are smoking, I kept silent. Then it happened again and again :d. One day he came and asked me for one, I was shocked because I didn't want him to start smoking, so I asked him if you are doing it for first time. He said that he smoke sometimes and then we smoked together.

In California and some other states it is illegal to smoke in the workplace. In fact, in California smokers must be no less than 20 feet away from the entrance of a building. Even the hotels and motels are smoke free, and bars as well. So if your local government hasn't passed such regulations, the only thing I can think of is communicate. Does his office have a window? I also saw ashtrays that get rid of most of the smoke. Good luck.

We're not allowed to smoke in the office so i'm find with 2nd hand smoke. I'm also a smoker anyway so if ever i'm in your situation, it wouldn't bother me that much.

Im lucky that my boss doesn't smoke.. He even hates employees who smoke inside. If it were my boss, i don't think i can ever stand it, i might be quitting the job or approach him to smoke somewhere far from me..heheh.
