The red bees?
Yep, real live, red bees in the Big Apple itself!
Not in some back water place, but right in the big city!

Can you believe it?
Heck, I see the yellow ones around here and worry they might be Africanized, but they've got red bees and red honey in the big city!
Too bad the honey doesn't taste like cherries...

That is really funny and true! How about that. I
live here in NYS and didn't even know that! I guess they didn't
find that piece of news important enough to put on AOL or
any other place where I get my news from. Shame of me! Thanks
for sharing the story. I am allergic to bees so if I see one
coming in any color I'm going to run like hell! But a red bee?

They sound pretty! But it's scary what with the dye/food coloring and all.. not sure it's very good for them!

I had to look this one up. They said that they are covered in red dye #40. That gives store cherries their wonderful bright coloring. So I guess it isn't too scary.

Nope, didn't hear about those. Gotta love MyLot because I get my news here before I get it anywhere else. The damn bees sound even worse than a bedbug infestation!

I've never thought we needed dyes in food, anyway. It can't be healthy for the bees. Rather than make things look attractive we should have them in their natural state and people would get used to that. We'd be healthier and the bees would, too!

Hi. ElicBxn. No. But I am very aware of any kinds of bees though. They are deadly and they will sting a person badly when they get a hold of someone. I will be careful about being around these bees. If these bees are red, then I know that this is something very serious to look out for!

I'd not heard of a city having a bee keeper but it makes sense. I tried your link and apparently the article is now archived because I had to do a search within CBS site for red bees.
So now has this problem been solved are does NYC still have red bees and red honey about? The dye shouldn't bother too many people unless they are allergic to red dye 40. Might be kind of cool to be passing around red honey at the breakfast table.

I saw that last night! They couldn't figure out why they had the red funny tasting honey This woman was going into a big spill about the chemicals in the cherries and how you aren't supposed to eat them...they are just supposed to be a garnish and give a little flavor. Those sneaky little bees didn't think so huh

I haven't heard of the red bees. The honey would be really good if it tasted like cherries!
I think that is the food coloring that isn't good for you. I hope it doesn't affect the bees like it does humans. I have heard that the bees are dying off as it is. If the dye is bad for them, it will be even quicker, and then we will be in trouble!

No, I did not hear about any red bees! What is this about? Are the bees naturally red or did they somehow become artificially colored by someone either intentionally or unintentionally? Are you serious about the red honey or just joking? I've heard that Africanized bees are the ones who hybridized with American bees and created the "killer bees." I hope these aren't anything like that.
