Generation gap as I see it.

We are all familiar with the term generation gap. Generation gap is present for a long, long time better to say from time immemorial & will also be there till the human civilization survives. But of late, it seems that generation gap is increasing by leaps & bounds. Do you agree with my observation? If yes, what is the underlying cause behind it?

I really think that there was a time where the bap was hardly noticeable, for the main reason that there wasn't much of a way for young people to be TOO different from their parents because of lack of communication to other places to infuse different and strange ideas like there is today. And when there was probably only 14 or 15 years age different from parents to children, that could be another factor

I think that there are many cases where the generation gap has grown and that is due very much in part to the fact that multiple generations of families no longer live in close proximity of one another. However, in the event of our family, I don't see this to be the case at all. My daughter and my grandmother were very close during the nearly four years of life that they shared together. Then as far as my children's grandparents go, they are very close and relate to each other very well. However, if we didn't live within comfortable driving distance of them I don't think this would be the case.

for one thing both oldies and youngies need to have some compassion gor each other. also young people should learn that not all older people are stupid or senile or in their second childhood. a lot of us are more healthy than ever before and our minds are still sharp even if we now walk with a quad cane. I am 84 and I can still type here and think and compose and write what I think and feel. Also we must realize our younger generation is much more technically minded and we must have only praise for this . Really I love the fact that we have more and better electronics than ever before and I am open to learning new things all the time.Life should always be a learning experience for us all.So let us close the gap by mutual consent. lol lol lol.

I so agree. It has to do with the human element and how families are set up. Mother and father are always going to think there are things their child are doing that are silly or mondain. Always. And kids are always going to feel just the opposite. Some to a lesser degree but it is basically going to remain the same.

You are certainly correct in saying that there is generation gap and there will always be generation gap as long as civilization last. One of the main reason for there is individualization of lives than communualization of life. Modern society seems to based aorund individual rights and freedom and people think of themselves more than children that they prolong or delay having children to carry on with their own live before finding out that they need new generations to carry their spicies and their activities.

I think generation gaps are bigger than they used to be because never before in history have so many things changed so rapidly as they do now. Think about it; The difference in technology and how we live our daily lives has changed a great deal between 1980 and now, hasn't it? Do you think there was that much difference in life between 1880 and 1900? Probably some differences, but not to the degree of modern times now. And so young people today think and live very differently than people who grew up 50 years ago, and the difference will probably only increase in the coming decades. I am only 28 and I can tell that people younger than me know about stuff I have no idea about. Kids growing up now have toys that I could have only dreamed about and they all know how to work highly technical gadgets that I haven't even heard of.

The faster the culture moves the shorter the generation gap comes around. After all a gap only means a space between, you can have a gap in your teeth which is short or in stiches you are making, also short or there can be a gap in the canyon walls, very large.

I think that society increases the gap in the generation gap. Sometimes it can be made more difficult by pressures of society for people to come together.

Greetings :) I would definitely agree with your observation. I believe the cause is technology. Technological advancements are moving a lot faster nowadays. The oldies who barely managed a beeper have to cope with IPads, Laptops and touchscreen cell phones. The television sets now are so vivid and their black and white televisions are like junk nowadays.

Well Surely it will be continue till the end.. And i guess it will be the same for every generation( really can't measure is it decreasing or increasing as sometimes i think it is decreasing and sometimes just reverse ).. As everybody getting different type of life as generation change it is hard to end this gap.
