I've read this at yahoo homepage about the most irritating word for the year. The poll was made and the winner is the word "whatever" follow by "like" and "you know what I mean". I personally think the poll have get it right. I feel irritated when people use this word. For example when I tell somebody about something then he shunned me off with "whatever" I will really piss off. So if when people talking something very difficult to understand and then they say "you know what I mean". dude I don't even understand a single word you say and you say that I know what you mean. Seriously this word need to be avoid to use anytime. Other irritating word for me is "do I have to". So dear my lotters, what is the most irritating and annoying word to you?

'Hate'! It should be abolished! There is never any reason to use it at all, online or off. 'Dislike' is always enough

No word can annoy me but rather the people who use them. It is either the voice if it's really high pitched or the tone of voice that is off to what I would consider normal. The most irritating kind would be that talkative people who repeats things many times.

Gorilla, Yup. The tone does reflect how irritating the word would be. Caduceus, Sometimes even if it was your friend or family it would be irritating also if the tone just not right.

And you just share the same view with most of the voters at yahoo poll for the most irritating word. Yes, denial can be very irritaing. If we made a mistake, just admit it. Why we need to deny our wrong doing. Sooner or later people will find out also and that will make people will trust us lesser and might not even trust us anymore because we keep on denying. Thanks Nicregi. Good overview.

The word that has irritated me over the recent years is, "anyways." Anyways is not a word, but an abstraction. I never was able to understand why it grated on my mind so much, but probably because it's not a word but a "brown study," of the Queen's English.

This is interesting. That's a good point you make about ' you know what I mean?' ahahah!! I think I don't like 'never mind', especially when I'm all into the topic already thinking hard and then they say forget about it. AH, 'forget about it' is annoying too.. because if I could, I would. 'should' is annoying too.

Actually, there's no words which annoy me so far. In fact, I'm more irritated when people say a particular word for a number of times. That really pisses me off.

There are so many great words in the English language. Some are used in beauty while others are just abused. I enjoy words. I do find that there is one word i can do without. That word is whatever. Sometimes i think it us used when someone wants to blow us off. It can be irritating to hear because you don;t always know how it is really being meant.

Yes when we are in convesation and particularly when it is a serious maater some words spoken by others naturally irritate us.It depends upon the subject matter of discussion or conversation and the people with whom we are conversing. In the course of serious discussion I feel irritated when the other person keeps mum without saying yes or no when I say some solution. He or she should say yes or no or give his or her view.If they simply keep quite I get irritated..

i`d like to share some experience here, when in College school, one of my classmates will relate many times" you know" in his speeches. Everyone that moment will freak out after listening this. I think it is just a pause for him to convert thoughts maybe. But not only for him, it is not good habit for everyone that are english learners.

i feel irritated when people use the word "look" in msn, especially when they start a sentence with the word "look", or when they reply just with the word "cool", it makes me feel that they don't care about what i just typed.
