Christmas Candy

We always put candy in our kids Christmas stockings along with oranges and nuts. It is a throw back to my family who first moved here in the early 1900's and didn't have any money. They used food as gifts because it was practical. I am sure my kids get way more candy then my Gram did, but it is something I would like to keep doing. We usually give them candy they do not get during the rest of the year, ribbon candies, and such. Anyone else give candy? Is there a story behind it? or maybe something else with a cool story.

That's cool! My family has always put candy and little gifts in our stockings. There was no real reason behind it though. It was mostly tradition. My grandma always like to remind us of the story of the candy cane at Christmas time though. :-)

My daughter is only a couple months old so she can't have candy, but when she's older I'll def be putting those candy canes of gum in her stocking... they were my favorite when I was little.

I miss fixing stockings like i use to do for my kids. I always put candy in theirs along w/other things to. I agree w/u about the fruit etc. i think it was because it was pratical.we all need to be more pratical when it comes to gifts & things.

We do the same thing. I remember my mom used to always put the coolest stuff in my stocking. I don't know where she found the candy but it was always good stuff that I couldn't figure out where she got any of it from. Hadn't seen it before. I remember ribbon candies. We used to get alot of clothes for the same reason you mentioned. It was practical. My ex husband got upset with me because I baught him some warm clothings along with the other things I got for him. He thought it was weird. He worked outside year round then and I wanted him to be warm. Families are different.
