I have a little over a month to climb on the plane that will take me to Aruba. This isn´t my first time in Aruba and Aruba is not the only place I know in the Caribbean. Have you gone there? Did you like it? Would you go again? Share your experiences!

Wow, you're so lucky to have visited the Caribbean, I'll never get that chance as the amount of money that would cost is more than I make in one year.

I have a timeshare and make my own meals. I save all year for the air fare.

The expense is the flight plus hotel to stay there. It isn't cheap to fly via the US.

We have been to Aruba twice, and loved it both times. There is a lot to do there, whether you are traveling alone, with friends, a spouse, or kids. The beaches are great, but the best part about Aruba (in my opinion) is that for a small island, it offers a lot more than just beaches. There is a historical museum that is very good, hiking and natural wonders, including a huge national park, archeological finds, a variety of shopping venues, restaurants, and activities--even a drive-in movie theater! I loved it so much I have written a couple of travel articles about Aruba, and hope to write a travel guide. Enjoy your return visit!

Ayo rock formation, Aruba - One of the beautiful and unusual natural rock formations found on the island of Aruba.
Here's a pic of the Ayo rock formation--beautiful!

I sent you a friend request so I can PM you with the links. Even though they are relevant to this discussion, I don't want to cross any guidelines and self-promote. Feel free also to email me with any specific questions about Aruba, and I will be happy to answer them if I can.

I start daydreaming about the Caribbean when the weather starts to grow cold even though our Winters are mild. But usually I can go on vacations when I get the money and there´s a good deal.

When I was 19 years old I visited St Lucia. I had a fantastic time there seeing the beaches, rain forest, capital city, villages and the Piton Mountains. I would love to visit more islands in the Caribbean Sea. I hope that you will have a magical time in Aruba. Right now I am in Santa Marta and am having a lovely time. I went swimming and snorkeling today.

I have. I won a one-week cruise and it was lovely! The boat was a 43-foot sailboat and came with a captain and a cook. That was it as far as the crew went. We sailed all around the American Virgin Islands and went as far south as Tortola, part of the British Virgin Islands. We stopped and got out at a few of the islands, one of them being Tortola. I loved talking with the natives, such a lovely accent they have! I'd go back there in a heartbeat! I've never been to Aruba, though. I mentioned in another discussion of yours that I've always wanted to go to Aruba, simply because I love the name. But, I'd be happy going back to any of the islands. The next time I go, if ever, I want to spend more time on the islands and less time sailing. I truly enjoyed my trip there but I really would like to spend more time interacting with people who live there.

I know what you mean by sailing. I went to Kunayala in Panama on January 2009 by sailboat but spent a lot of the 3 weeks sailing. The boat belonged to some friends of mine and they invited me as part of the crew. They were seasoned sailors and had more fun than I did when sailing. I loved to see the islands we went to, with natives who still talked in their prehispanic language. I have written in other posts about my experiences with the Kunas

Alas, I have never to the Caribbean but I sure would love to go! My daughter and I want to start a vision board and lovely pictures of a cruise ship and the Caribbean may be the way to go, I think! It would definitely be a dream come true to go, that’s for sure! I’m going to head to the travel agent tomorrow and get some brochures...Now look what you've done! (LOL)

There are so many beautiful places one can go for a cruise!!! I have never stopped thinking about a cruise to the islands in Greece. One of the problems we have in the Southern hemisphere is that going places is so expensive

I haven't been to Aruba, but I was in Bonaire, its neighbor and part of the ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao -- the Dutch Antilles). I loved it. Bonaire is not really a tourist-y place, that's why I liked it so much -- just a laid-back little island.

Honestly, I always screaming about to go Caribbean islands and other places down south. I just don't have time, or I don't have guts to go alone. I always have to beg my friend to come with me, make vacation for me, etc...... Until now, I still not make it come true yet. What should I do? I want to make this dream come true someday. I need to work extra harder, and save enough money for it.

Why would you need guts to go to the Caribbean? I have gone alone many times and I´m still alive. Once, in Mexico , a friend of mine told me to beware as they were kidnapping people. GIVE ME A BREAK!!! I asked them please not to pay randsom if if was kidnapped. I used buses, did as Romans do and had fun with very friendly people.

I never went to Caribbean but I have its glimpse in the movie "The pirates of Caribbean." I think that is the real Caribbean in the movie. It looks good. I am sure it will be fun to go there. I wish you good luck. Have a nice journey.

The movie is fiction although many centuries ago there were pirates there (although not the kind depicted in thamovie). There are several cities at the Caribbean that have remains of old Spanish Forts. At Cartagena de Indias, in Colombia, there is also a wall to protect the city. Spanish ships sailed to Spain from there taking a lot of the New World bounty. Pirates and corsairs raided the city to get the gold and emeralds from the inland. Now the Caribbean main riches lies in it´s climate and tourism flourishes everywhere. Thanks for answering!

I loved the movie and also fell in love with Jack Sparrow. As it happens in fiction, this has nothing to do with the actor (who could be my son) but with the character

I never knew if it was a fiction or reality but I was talking about the geography of the place. I like the role of Depp in the movie and it is very much entertaining. I liked the places also. I like the scene when the two of them, the girl and Depp are left in the Island and have nothing to eat and live with. That is a very good scenery. It was nice to read your information about the history of the pirates. Thanks and have a nice day.

I went on a cruise from Miami to the West Caribbean, Cozumel, Roatan Island and Belize. It was nice, but you know, I think I'd rather just go to one place and see that place rather than spend so much time on a ship.

I have never been on a cruise. My mom once came from Europe on a transatlantic on first class. She said it was like living in a palace!!! I´d like to do that but will never gt the money, if such ships still exist.

I have been on 7 cruises and going on my 8th this summer again. I habe been to St Thomas, St Marteen, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Haiti, Mexico and im sure there are places im forgetting. St Thomas was the most beautiful place and the beach there is amazing and just fantastic. So many things to do and people just serve you right on the beach and nothing like being back at home in Florida. Its just gorgeous and nothing can describe it. Acutally i think my photo i have on here is from there and that will show you how nice it is. Have a great day.
