a movie star or celebrity of some kind? When I was a teen I had a fierce crush on Mark Lindsay of Paul Revere and the Raiders. Then I liked some movie stars. I guess my favorite to date is Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz. I love Whoopi and Robin Williams. I would love to meet Dolly Parton. Would love to meet her. How about yourself? Any movie stars? Or are you into political people?

A dear friend of mine loved Elvis too. We would have card parties at her house and she would bring out all the Elvis records and play them. What fun! Now she lives half way across the US!

While there are lots of celebrities I'm a fan of, I don't think I'd really want to meet them. The reality may not be as much fun as seeing them from afar. And even if they're generally nice people, everyone has bad days, and I worry I might just catch them on a bad day. I just find it safer to keep a nice distance between me and any star.

I don't really understand our celebrity culture. These are just people that are successful at their job. We don't go gaga over accountants and lawyers; or garage owners so why over people who make their living playing other people? That said I grew up in a part of England that was very popular with rock stars. I have met: Chick Corea, Ian Gillan, Roy Wood, all the members of ELO, ditto The Who (Pete Townsend was married to my friend's sister), various members of the British Royal family, several UK TV "names" and have twice had the good fortune to guide one of my childhood TV crushes (Valerie Singleton) in the Cathedral where I am a guide. Finally I have also met several British senior politicians and had the experience of John Major (British Prime Minister) introduce me to President Gorbachev of the then USSR.

Well, I bet you are not bummed to not have met anyone then. The celebrity culture, I think, is the American way. Thanks for your response.

I'd probably be totally tongue tied. I did meet (and get autographs from) almost the entire cast of the orignal Star Trek (no Shatner, no Nimoy), and Michelle Kwan and a bunch of other skaters. But most of the celebrities I'd really like to meet are long gone.

I would too. To see Dolly and talk to her I would probably act like an idiot. I always liked Leonard Nimoy. I bought a book of poems he wrotes years ago. He did a series of narations for a show I liked too called In Search of.... good one. I never really cared for Shatner until later on in his career. I just didn't like the character and type of woman's man that he portrayed in ST.

CE- Well, as a child I had crushes on people that I didn't realize were old enough to be my grandfather. It started with Jackie Cooper because I saw him in a Treasure Island and thought he was just the "cutest", until my dad took us to see Superman years later and I realized just how old he was. I had a mild crush for years on Mark Hamill, just couldn't get over it lol. Then there was Sean Connery as I grew up on James Bond. And then there was Orson Wells. I remember watching him in Jane Eyre and just going gushy! As a child you truly have no idea of age. In the third grade I had a horrible crush on Frank Langella. I was a slightly dark little child I suppose under all the lace lol. My dad let me watch Dracula and I fell in love head over heals with him. To this day he's one of my favorites as Dracula, next to Bela. And of course all of my life I loved Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. Talk about two cuties! I also love Tom Selleck, and Sam Elliot. I love westerns and those two do a fine job. Of course, I can't complain about Val Kilmer's performance as Doc Holiday. Now, in terms of actually meeting people Bruce Lee comes to mind. I would have loved to sit and listen to him, as well as learn from him. He was a true Master. I'd also like to meet Jackie Chan. There is just something about him that seems so personable. Like he's just the guy next door. I did meet a famous body builder once upon a time, and I really got my encouragement from her to weight life. She was something of an icon at the time and though all I can say is that I shook her hand, it was a meeting I won't forget. Namaste-Anora

I still like Sean connery. He is so squave. Like Cary Grant. Frank Langella was such an interesting fellow. And Sam and Tom. Yum! I love deep, sexy voices like Sam's. Tall and the voice. Whoa! Like Danny Kaye too. What a guy. He is believed to be the guy Shirley MacLaine talks about having an affair with in her books. I liked the old actors like Gary Cooper,Cary Grant, Erroll Flynn, James Stewart, Richard Boone, Ward Bond, and I could go on and on.
