I know people that dye their hair and they say that it is their natural hair color. I think it is funny since I know the truth because I've known them all of their life. One lady I know brags all the time about her hair being blond and that she doesn't dye it either this is my natural hair color she says. I don't tell her that I know the truth because I don't want to hurt her feelings but I know because she did have blond hair when she was a little girl but when she became a teenager it was turning brown and she said I don't want brown hair , I want my hair to be blond so she started dying it. She dyes it before it can get a chance to change but it is blonder sometimes then other times to where I can tell when it just gets dyed.

Yes I know a few people who do this because of their hair turning gray. Which to me is also sort of a sign of wisdom. Why lie about it though to the people that see you everyday or that are going to know. Maybe she has some insecurities. I guess there is just nothing we can do about that. Let her think she is still blonde. Some people just don't want to grow up..or change for that matter.

I agree with you there. My grandmother was the same way. When I was little, she always would dye her hair. Then I guess that she realized that she was getting wrinkled and that she couldn't cover up her age so she stopped doing so. I think it is a good thing to not try being something you aren't. I guess if you look 20 except for your hair it might make sense, but if you look 70 except for your hair then it doesn't.

I admit I dye my hair, but I love my natural hair color, so I dye it as close to that color as I can. So if someone who knew me before I started dying it was to see me today, they may have trouble wondering if I did dye my hair or not unless the roots are starting to show..lol

I only started dying my hair when a sibling of a teammate on my daughters soccer team asked what was in my hair. Her mom looked for me because I freaked out about insects and she says, "Oh, that is just a gray hair." Needless to say, that is when I started..lol

I think that it depends on the look they are going for as to how they mind if one knows. My daughter loves the more trendy colors where I am more the natural look. I have never really cared that anyone know when I dye mine though. I have a friend that told me once that she dyes her so much and for so long that she doesn't even know what her natural color is.

Thank you for commenting. I know people that have told me that too that they've dyed there hair so long and dyed it so many different colors that they forgot what their natural hair color was .That is funny. I don't know if the person that told me that was serious or just being funny.

My old man always dye his hair then but for a reason of getting an allergy from the chemicals, he stopped already. Anyways, that's ok with me if he kept on doing that as long he stays confident with himself and happy. In another way, If my daughter will do it on herself. I would fully disagree. She's just a teen.

Thank you for commenting. It doesn't bother me if my husband doesn't dye his hair either to not show his gray hair. I didn't like my kids to dye there hair either so I understand. A lot of teenagers do and it really is bad on their hair.

that's daft. I'm naturally blonde. I dye my hair black because I prefer the look of it. which doesn't mean I'm ashamed of being blonde. I just dye it because I like black hair better. after nearly 15 years of dying my hair I'm thinking of dying it red instead.

Vanity can go a long way. There are some people who don't want others to know they are going gray. They want to keep their youthful appearance. This even goes for their hair.

hello margeryann... usually severall old people dye her/his hair in my country. they do so because they cover their black hair which turning to grey or white hair. and usually they will deny if they dye their hair. but now the situation is changing, many young people dye their hair into blond, brown or even red hair. and they are proud of it. can you imagine the asian skin with blond hair margeryann? it is so funny i think, but i cannot do anything because it is their rights to do everything as they want. nice discussioun marge...

That's what is called lying to oneself. he natural hair color of most Indonesian is black. So when some said hers were brunette or blond people would laugh. Still some are adamant that theirs were brown... I don't know why do they lie about their hair color. Must be having a very low self esteem.

Well, my mother dye her hair often and she deesn't care about people knowing it. It does not matter to her but to some people i think it does to protect their self-image.

i think we should live more our life without giving second thoughts to what others think cause they will always judge and 90% of the time they are wrong. but i'm more up to people being natural and real to their race, hair color and eye colors you know, i think it's more honorable to learn to accept and then love our hair color than to go all the way dying it

I agree. We don't want to get to where we don't know who we are because of pretending to be who we think others will like. No matter what there is going to be someone that doesn't like something about us no matter what so we mise well be who we are or what we want to be and not care what people think.

I think it's part of woman's vanity. We don't want people to know that what in us is not natural! I have friends who dye their hair and will swear they never did and pretend it's natural! Women always want to be praise but not a word of criticism!

I guess people don't want people knowing they dye their hair because it can be looked at as them being "fake". This usually seems to apply to people who dye their hair blonde... I don't really see the big deal though. My hair right now is not my natural hair color. If someone asks if it is, I have no reason to lie to them. My hair right now is black, while it is naturally brown. I've also attempted dying my hair an auburn color before...and I have added an unnatural red to it this past summer. It's pretty obvious that THAT wasn't natural, haha. I guess if you are one of the unfortunate people that gets grey/white hairs at a young age, you wouldn't want people to know about that...my sister had a boyfriend that had a patch of grey hair, and he would dye it...sometimes. I guess it depends on how much effort you really wanna put into hiding your hair color.

I have dyed my hair a few times in my life. When I was in my 40s I started getting a few gray hairs so I would dye it. After I got cancer at age 43, I decided that was not necessary because I wanted to not do anything that might cause another bout with cancer. I later did it a few times just to do something different. One time when I was in Thailand, I dyed my hair black. It made me almost look Asian. I didn't do it again for a long time. Last fall, I got my hair cut and I decided to get my hair dyed again, but for other reasons. I had heard that sometimes the chemicals in dyes would kill lice and unfortunately I had a problem like that. I got my hair dyed sort of reddish (my niece kept telling me it was purple). It looked ok and it did get rid of the problem. It doesn't bother me knowing that people know that I dye my hair. Thanks for bringing up the topic.

Thank you for commenting. I never heard of that with lice but that makes since since the chemicals are so strong.I have a cousin that is white and she married a Mexican man and she dyes her hair black sometimes to look more like her kids and husband. She would probably look more like them if her eyes were brown but she does look more like them like that. It doesn't bother me people knowing either.
