What do you think about Valentine's Day? Will you be buying gifts for your significant other? I think Valentine's day is a waste of money holiday because everything is overly priced and it isn't really special because everyone usually goes out to buy the same things "chocolate & roses". Every year, all I ask is a handmade card from the heart from my boyfriend and that makes me happy. :) Are you going to celebrate Valentine's Day? Did you get your significant other anything??

Valentines day,Christmas day, and Easter, are all just a way to make money. Just a gimmick to confuse the population into spending money. Lets face it if you really wanted to do something for your spouse, an arm full of roses is a poor excuse for love. A better alternative would be to give the poor overworked woman a day off while you stayed home with the kids, and forget the flowers!

I dont like to spend personally anything on Valentine's day. This is not a very good idea of buying anything. For lovers, everyday is a occassion to celebrate because you can show your love all the time. You can always be with them when they are in need. Thats the true love.

Valentine's Day is not so significant for me. but I shall celebrate it today with my husband. honestly speaking, even it is not so important I still wish for presents on this occasion. not chocolate & roses, something useful I can apply for a long time ,like earings .

acually, I think valintine's day is just a holiday for card company's and florist to get some money out of you but my hubby allway's gets me a dozen roses every year. I must admit that i have come to expect it every year,so if i didn't get any, i would probably be disapointed. I usually by a card and make him a special meal for him or take him out to dinner.

I also want to be practical during celebrations like this. Usually, I just make my "special someone" his favorite food. Watch movies together and do just crazy stuffs. It's the thought that counts as they say.

hmm i find it romantic when my special someone gives me gifts this valentine's day but it's not just about the "valentines day" thing..isn't it more romantic to think that even if it's not valentine's day, your special someone still gives you something and makes you feel important..and i like it when the giving comes from the heart...it's more of being in love with each other more and more each day of your relationship...

Most of us here in Australia do not really celebrate valentines day but I must say even so it is nice to get a rose or chocolates, but I have only ever known one fella who brought flowers to me....

Aw, one day a guy will. :) Even though it's popular here in the USA, I don't really do much just hand made card/go out for dinner.

I've been taking care of my husband who just had spine surgery a week ago. He's home and complaining every chance he gets so I do everything I can to avoid being too close to him. I purposely stay in another room unless I'm doing something for him. I would have liked an acknowledgement of Valentine's day but I got nothing, not even an e-card. My husband is probably the least romantic man on the planet. I've been doing everything around the house plus taking care of all his needs, including drying him off when he takes a shower because he can't bend or twist his back yet. But, he has yet to even say thank you to me for anything I've done. So, no, I have not bought him anything. Well, I did go out and pick up a new prescription medication he just got today but that's all I did. If he can't even SAY Happy Valentine's Day, I won't get him anything. He doesn't deserve anything. I did see guys buying chocolates and flowers while I was in the store picking up my husband's prescription and it made me smile. I was thinking of their significant others when they received these gifts and I was happy for them. I would have liked SOMETHING, but I'm used to getting nothing so I'm okay with it. Valentine's Day could disappear for all I care. Love should be expressed every day, not just one day a year. Every day should be special. Maybe I should get into the commercial side of it and at least make some money out of it. At least that way I'd get SOMETHING. LOL

i call it Hearts Day instead of Valentine's Day. I think it is a good day to celebrate love so I do celebrate with the world whenever February 14 comes. I am already married so my husband and I are always making it a point to a have a special date to have a real happy Hearts Day. But I have already told my husband not to buy me flowers on this date but rather just give me flowers on some other days. This is more practical is it not? Anyway flowers are beautiful any day of the year so no need to buy them at very expensive price. For as long as I know my husband loves me...with or without flowers I am always happy and contented. But we of course always make it a point to enjoy fine dining in a romantic place.

I probably will but knowing me I won't know what until late today or tomorrow lol. I do go by 'it's the thought that counts' so shouldn't be that hard to figure out why to get her, although she just had a birthday too ....

This year my husband, my youngest son and I spent it eating out. We usually just stay home. We usually don't make a big deal out of it. We give each other a card and call it good.I'm an unusual lady. I really don't like cut flowers. I think they are too expensive for something that is going to die in a few days.

I like to buy everyone a little something. I got candy for my kids, my neice and nephew, my sister and my parents. I also let both of my kids pick out a thing of candy for their dad. They love buying people special things like that it makes them so happy to give people gifts. My friend is taking me out to dinner and I bought him a big package of recees cups. I looked at the package today and thought gosh this just isnt a nice enough present so I opened it up and ate the whole thing myself lol.

The only reason we got anything for each other was because we just got our taxes back. I bought hubby a video game he's been wanting (he would have bought it for himself anyways) and a new leather coat because his old one ripped out. I actually found both of these online at a cheaper price than I could have gotten them in stores, and like I said, they both would have been purchased regardless. He got me a gift certificate to a spa, and set up an appointment for a massage for me. This is something he's been wanting to do for me for a long time and just couldn't afford it. This gift is a combination of the holiday and the fact that we had tax money to spend. Typically, we do not buy each other gifts on Valentine's Day. Sometimes we will try to go out to eat if we have the money to, but normally we cannot afford it so we don't.

Valentines day is a special day for lovers especially the newly engaged.I guess it would not matter if you give gifts to your partners or not as long as you both love each other because we have different ways to show how we care for our love ones either through gifts or dinner dates. If you can not afford this things then think of something that will make your partner think he/she is special without lavish spending.Happy Valentines day to all mylotters...

Hey infatuatedbby, i really agree with you that Valentine's day is a waste of money day. Eveything is double priced. I always tell my girlfriend, if everyone celebrate valentine, the happiest people are those businessmen. I had do a reservation for valentine dinner under my girlfriend request. But the restaurant called me last minute and forced me to take their set dinner but i just want to have ala carte because i think the set is not worthy. But they told me if i dont want to take the set, i can't get my reservation. I was so mad about this because i did my reservation one week ago and i had confirm with them that i can order ala carte but they told me last minute that i was not allowed.

Valentines day is just another gimmick, another way to throw away more money. If you are just going to buy your partner something to show them that you love them then isn't this buying there love? or if it is to show you love them then as you love them everyday must you have to buy them something everyday? What makes this one day stand out more? Things do not have to be bought to say that you love a person, if you didn't love them then you would not be with them. I am still single but i do buy valentines gifts when i am in a relationship. So this year atleast i have saved myself some money by being single. lol

For Valentines day we usually go out for a nice dinner. Then we curl up and watch a movie. And since Valentines Day fell on a Monday this year we celebrated yesterday.
