Of Course...Just My Luck! Haha

So I was filling out my application for a new job and in the previous employment section it asked for my previous supervisors last name, and I couldn't remember it! And I'm actually applying for the same job as the "previous employment" entry. So I figured I could call them, and ask whoever answered for the managers last name (same manager who was my supervisor). Well, just my luck the manager was the one who answered! Oh no! Haha. So I had to tell her I couldn't remember her last name! I was like "I'm sorry!" lol. But she was so nice, she just laughed and said "that's okay! I wouldn't have remembered yours either!" Knowing that she was still the manager there was the biggest reason I decided to apply again...out of the 4 managers I worked under in 2.5 years, she was definitely the best!

That's great, Congrats Lily, not many people get to work under someone they like, that is rare from what I hear...So you are leaving Pet Smart or whatever pet store you were working in? Is it the third shift that is getting to you?

She was the 4th (and last) manager that I worked under, and she was definitely the best (both with her work ethic and personality). I left PetSmart a couple years ago almost for school, now I'm returning...gonna try to balance it with school and another part time job! We'll see how it goes! lol I actually like working the 3rd shift there, I only really have to work with the animals, so that's a plus for me. Just gonna take a little while for me to get ysed to a fluctuating sleep schedule.

Well no. I'm filling out an application for a job I HAD before. I left it about 2 years ago to start school. Now, I want to start again, while still going to school.

I'm sorry, I'm confused. You are filling out an application for a job you already have?

Wow, that is great luck that you had getting the right person on the line. You might have more luck in getting the position again if she remembered you in the same positive way that you remember her. Hopefully she is just as nice as before and that you get the job. My last job was in 2006 and I know that not many of the same people are still there anymore as the ownership changed, sending the place downhill.

I remember her in a positive way! I remember feeling bad that I had to quit during the 'reign' of the only really good manager I ever worked under! lol. But I'm happy that I am able to return and help out while she's still there! Hopefully she doesn't leave right after I get there! lol Glad you got out of your last job before it went down hill! lol Thank you!!!

Yeah, lets hope she stays for a while for you! My old boss and most of his management and good workers actually moved to a new premises further up the freeway which they still run. When I told him that I was leaving, he said that he wanted me to go to the new workshop, (which was still not even built at that stage) but I would not have gone anyway as I liked working close to home. They ran both workshops for a couple of years before selling the one that I worked at last year. The one that I worked at was already the biggest in the state, so the combined workshops would have made for the biggest in the country had they been together.

Right now, start putting all the information you need for job applications in a book. Label the book for job applications. Mine is a notebook with plastic sheets covering pages. I have jobs going back many years, I wouldn't be able to remember dates and people's names either. Start now and it will be a big help. The schools in this area aren't letting kids leave without making up a "job application answer book." It includes a current resume plus a sheet of names and empployers from the past and dates, full job descriptions, copies of letters of recommendations, etc. After helping kids with theirs, I started making up mine. In one book, not really a notebook, but a ring binder with lots of plastic pages. Then as things change you can add and subtract. Take care.

That's a good idea! It'll be really helpful to my future to be able to use these people as references too. I should definitely do this, I have a lot of people and work I could include. Thanks!

I think it's lucky that she just laughed about it! I think sometimes when we work closely with someone who's not really a close friend, we tend to forget names. It's like plumber that we always call when we have problems. I forgot(or didn't know) his last name, so we only call him as plumber Bob.

Congrats to you as it sounds like you have had a great work history record with the company. If re-hired it will be something to look forward to as you know the inside people already. As for not remembering the name, I suppose after a couple years some people's name is easily to forget as many not so much interaction with the person. Best of luck with the job if re-hired!

Yeah I am really looking forward to this! I am super excited about seeing all the animals again! I loved working with all the dogs and cats! And since I know it's still under good management that makes me not dread it at all! lol The only thing I do dread is my sleep schedule, but it'll work itself out! Thanks!!
