Our children's goals in life...

Our kids say some of the funniest things. Then there are the serious conversations and yes some of them are hard not to laugh at too. Over the last year myhusband lost a job, started college to be able to get a better job, got a job to work while in school and now lost that one to lay offs. Jobs have been a common conversation in our home and my kids have their own ideas for their fututre. No teachers, doctors or mechanics here, they plan to pave their own roads! Last week my 11 year old wanted to make cakes like Duff from the food network. Then she wanted to be Kat Von D and do tattoos now she wants to make cakes that look like they are tattooed. I love how she wants to make her own way. My 9 year old told me she would like to be a fashion designer but not for people for farm animals? Yeah cows in booties and hats...lol My 5 year old has an obsession with sharks and has had this fixation since she was 18 months old. She plans to save sharks whose fins are hurt by boats and fishermen. She plans to make and attach fake fins to the sharks. I cannot wait to see what they grow up to be!

They sure have lively imaginations at these ages don't they? I hope they grrow up in a world where they can seek out and become whatever they wish to be. I hope you are around for much of it! Life is quite an adventure. And children are very special humans and so innocent and yet so knowledgeable on a spiritual level.

I just hope my nerves can handle the 5 year old. Last year she was all about feeding the sharks off the boat down the shore. I love sharks too but she is fearless, picking up the babies (only about 5 inches long) in the bay and giving them kisses before letting them go!

Kids need to know that there is bad with the good. Boundaries too.

She knows and sees, we had a day at the aquarium that we could watch them feed the sharks. For her it was time to learn how to feed them safely. Which I encouraged.

I love listening to kids when they talk about what they want to be/do when they grow up. In India...it's a mad rush to be an engineer or a doctor and kids start planning even before they are in high school!! I don't want my kids to be either of the two unless that's what they really want to do. When my now 10 year old was in kindergarten, he wanted to be 7 things when he grew up....an astronaut....a musician (playing an instrument)....a singer....a doctor...an artist and I forget the others....but he was really into the astronaut thing at the time...so imagine my surprise when he comes up on stage during his kindergarten graduation and says he wants to be a policeman when he grows up!!!!!! I asked him later and his explanation was that he didn't know how to draw an astronaut while he knew how to draw a policeman (they were asked to DRAW what they wanted to be when they grew up :P) But right now, he is full time into music...learning a couple of instruments...and we are happy to encourage him there. The younger one wants to be a soccer player or a cricketer....and he shows he has the skill (though he is just 4). I loved your 9 year old's fashion designer for farm animals :)

This is the best time living in the fantasy world thinking of whatever that fancies them and wanting to be whatever they want.. its just priceless. I myself wanted to be a Cab driver when i was 8, was obsessed with Cars, and a lots of other stupid things(According to my parents) like a singer a sport person, which didnt really happen, cause the practical life is too cruel.. and you have to get habituated with it to earn a living so now im an Electronics engineer and after working for a year im back to studying again doing my masters to get a further better job. Miss those days :

Then again my husband did exactly what he always wanted to do since a young child. He always wanted to work on the big rigs and he has been a diesel mechanic for years. Now though he is in school to be an electrician because he is so interested in solar power. When we where growing up solar power was not really big or used often, now it is different and I hope my kids take the lesson that you can be what ever you want to be even if that means changing later on to be something unheard of now.

Isn't that great that they have those dreams? My (now) 11 year old grand daughter discover Orca whales and dolphins at about 3 and has since wanted to be a marine biologist. however, her first ambition was to be the ticket taker and hand stamper at Disneyland! She said she'd do it part time from her whale work! Now, she is into fashion design and loves that, but still partial to being a marine biologist or a vet. She loves animals. When I was little? Only thing I can remember wanting to be was a poodle dog! My brother wanted to be a collie!

Definitely our children is our goals in life, I have 5 young kids, ages 8 years old daughter, 6 years old son and 5 years old daughters (triplet) which appear on my avatar. Each of them Had their different dreams. My eldest wants to be a doctor, so she would be able to take care of their grandmother because she is already old, then my son wanted to be a policeman so he could help those people in trouble and one my triplet told me she wanted to be an engineer who makes houses, beautiful houses, the other one is a teacher, and the last one a dentist. Isn't great to heard those dreams came from our beloved children, that's why me and my husband keep doing the best we can to make our children stick to their dreams, at their young ages, They have a big surprisingly dreams. That's why our goal is to help them accomplished their goals... happy weekend

The feelings is unexplainable when we see our children's accomplished something on their own. Children now at their young age seen how they are ambitious , so our roles as parent is to guide them to attain their ambitions. So let us all ask the guidance of our Almighty God that give us additional life to live in this world to see our children build their dreams. Just like you I have also three kids, my eldest is 12 his ambition is to be archaeologist, my 7 yers old is Engineer-he want to follow the steps of his uncle and his papa as he always telling me" I want to be an Engineer just like tito (uncle) Uly and papa. I hope and pray I still alive then. Good luck to you OpinionatedLady!

To you and yours as well. I wanted to be an archaeologist as a child. I study ancient clothing and recipes and re create them. I no longer work full time as I am a stay at home Mom but I loved the work and do some freelance jobs for the local museum.
