Why Do I ALWAYS Miss???

When I start a discussion, respond to a discussion, or make a comment to a response in a discussion, I ALWAYS proof & reproof what I have said to check the grammar, spelling, or whatever. It NEVER fails...I hit the "Post" button & the very FIRST thing I see is an obvious error!!! What is it with the human brain that stops us from seeing our mistakes BEFORE posting???

That really bothers me, too. I'm a stickler for spelling and grammar and when I see that a typo got past me I feel as if people will look upon me as uneducated and ignorant. Now, I know they won't because nobody seems to care about grammar and spelling anymore but that's how I feel. My more common mistakes are placing a comma at the end of a word like: wont'. My fingers go too fast, I guess. I type adn instead of and and winders instead of windows. The last is probably because that's what one side of my family called windows, they were from Kentucky and very, very southern! Luckily, I usually catch these but some slip by me. Would you believe, I've make at least 20 typos in this reply that I caught as I typed them? I guess that's the power of suggestion, I hope I didn't miss any!

You do realize it bothers us more than it bothers anybody else don't you??? I just know it drives me CRAZY!!! The younger generations have texted so much that they can no longer spell & they seldom use punctuation, so they don't even know we made a mistake!!!! Being a true Southerner, I think winders, but have trained my fingers to type windows.

Hi, LadyM....I've always been pretty good at composition, spelling, construction and all that stuff. But, I've been making errors too, even when I proof. My eye just sems to miss the goofs. So, lately, I've just been blaming it on getting old and the old brain is misfiring. Or my meds. Or distracting noises in the neighborhood. I'm just not perfect anymore!!!!

Sighs!!! I guess I'm at the age where EVERYTHING is blamed on my age!!! Strange thing is that I can proof yours & catch EVERY error; but mine...FORGET IT!!!!

LOL. I do the same thing. I go back over it and alot of times, I never see an error in it until I hit the submit button and then it is too late to do anything about it.

It happens to all of us, unfortunately. A variation of this is when I'm playing solitaire and can't for the life of me see the black five to put on the red six (as an example)... I think there be computer gremlins that take pleasure in fouling us up.

I could always stand behind you & play Solitaire better than if I sit down to my own game!!! I'd love to blame it on my computer; but sadly, it only does what I tell it to do!!!

Hey LadyM! You are certainly not alone! I used to proofread for a living and I can re-read my responses and hit submit and there are always some grammar or spelling or other really bad errors that I just don't see! It's a good that I'm not being judged or penalized! I worked in the Legal Profession for a very long time and everything had to be perfect of the Judge would have a fit and sometimes deny the papers! So, I used to have to be extra careful to make sure that there were absolutely no errors, not even a missing period! Now that I don't have to that anymore I have suddenly forgot how to spell, punctuate and speak! But, I don't care as long as I csn get my point across! And since I'm using my "deaf laptop" and constantly hitting wrong keys it's really a challenge for me! Glad it's temporary because I can't get used to this keyboard! Kitchen floor will be re-done again tomorrow, hopefully correctly and bathroom tiles too! Wish it was over so I can put my apartment back together. Next week is Phase 3 of repairs! My apartment is falling apart after 30 years of my renting and I finally got fed up and put my foot down!!!

I used to proofread also. Thinking back, it was a rule in that office....if you're the one who typed it, you weren't allowed to proof it. I always thought that was so crazy & maybe now I can understand why!!! Think that maybe if your brain knows what you've said, it reads it as you said it not as you typed it???

I always do the same thing! And it's literally right after I post and just glance at my post that I notice the mistake. And it's always something simple like not adding an "s" or leaving out a simple word. This drives me nuts!

Lol maybe you were reading over it swiftly to even recognize that there was even a error. I guess you just have to take your time and proof read before posting. But sometimes that do happen, the brain is just so funny sometimes.
