If You Have Ever Had A Wound As Well As Being Diabetic

what has your Doctor ever done to help that? Have you been given antibiotics, creams, or ended up going to a Wound care specialist to get the wounds looked at and assesed and helped from there? How did it affect your Sugar levels, and has it made life different for you? Personally I am starting to feel at a stand still with these chronic wounds and not sure what I need to do from here. They are not draining at this time, and have not been for about 2 weeks or so. There are for the most part now surface, but unable to get any New skin over them. I have considered trying stuff like Nu Skin to see if that would help, but have been told by others it does sting. I have been to wound clinics, doctors, etc. and it seems like nothing ever really goes anywhere anymore. Even been told there is not much more that they can do due to the type of Insurance that I have as well. So it continues to make me quite frustrated and wonder what are my other options out there for sure. (I would love to try Skin Grafting or something, or whirlpool therapy, etc. but no one seems it would help, and like I said my Insurance probably does not cover it.) So feeling at a loss, I continue to use a Creme I got online and keep an eye on everything hoping for the Best from here. Does anyone have any tips, suggestions, or ideas? ~~TINA~~

I'm still unsure what kind of wounds you have. Are they like static ulcers (weeping wounds on the legs) or a wound that was in part because you couldn't feel the injury due to nerve damage? Static ulcers need to be pressure wrapped, but the other kind need to be treated by keeping weight or other irritants off of them.

These are weeping wounds on my legs. I have been keeping them wrapped, but this is only keeping the swelling from that area. Not really helping them heal. There has got to be something out there that is Best for these for sure, because having them not want to heal must not be Good in the long run.

Problem is they say they are not Statious ulcers, and have done Tests and now do not want to really do anything for them at the moment. Since the doctors want to charge so much without really wanting to give any Antibiotics, etc. it almost seems like a loosing battle for sure.

Those sound like static ulcers then, and the cure seems counter productive, but tight wrapping them is the cure. I went thru a massive bout with my former roommate, and I've had several friends I've told to "get thee to the doctor" with them. I even tried wrapping them once, but I didn't get them tight enough.

Both antibiotics and steroids will mess with your sugars when you take them orally. I am not sure about when they are topical creams. My daughter's mother in law had to have a special suction machine that did something for her wounds, but they were in skin folds and were not healing. I do not believe she is diabetic. I am not sure what I would do, except to make sure my nutrition was really good and perhaps even get some extra protein because that helps you heal.

Well, at least her Doctor or Doctors were wanting and willing to do something to help get her healed. Most of the time, the doctors around here only continue to give me antibiotics that never seem to really help, while ignoring other options and things I have heard about for wounds that are out there. You would think overall they would be wanting to help instead of wait to help save $$ in the long run as well.

I sure hope that you can get healed up soon. I know you said you had found some other things online that you wanted to try.

So sorry I can't help you out. Its a shame in this day and age that it should go on and on like it has been. You would think that even if your insurance won't cover it they would continue to try new treatments! Best of luck...a few prayers might just help a bit too!

Well, it definately seems like a loosing Battle and if this is any signs of Health care to come HELP!! I just continue to not believe that the doctors are so inexperienced with wanting to do anything. Almost makes me want to cringe.

Do you have medic-aid? I would call them, tell your situation and see if you can get some help from them. They have all different programs with medicaid. I am on medicare and yet medicaid helps alittle with my medicine monthly. I would see if they have anything and if you would be able to get some added insurance for this situation.

Well, over the yrs. I have checked out and called around to see what type of Help there is for people who are Diabetic, and their income level due to being Married does not seem to fit in the realm. Unless they have come up with something just recently, there is no real Help out there. It is Sad when the people in America can work or be forced to work since they are married, but when they have horrible Medical issues there is nothing set up to help them survive financially or medically as well. You would think with Diabetes being so rampant there would.

Well, I have a friend who has it and he makes good money but still says it costs him alot for all he has to do and have. I would research it. Surely the Diabetis Foundation has some programs for people who can't afford it. And also I have seen commercials on tv for free equipment. You might check into those.

Hello my friend KrauseHome Ji, Well, I am too diabetic along with RA/HTN/UTI and do suffer everytime I get Corn in my feet-fingers. Unable to bear the pain, I go for skin grafting. But Dermotologist carefullyu peal out the skin and I too remain careful not to agrivate the wound. I am marginal diabetic. One should try to reduce diabetic level within the ranges and then one will find wound healing up in time. Take care. Thanks. May God bless You and have a great time.

Well, part of the problem that aggrivates me is back when my Sugar levels were running higher, my wounds took to some type of therapy, but they also we doing more to help get it too heal, and medications, etc. were no object. Now for some reason even if my Sugar levels are running more under control, they do not want to heal like they should, and there is nothing no one wants to do.

Aloe vera a wonder herb - Aloe vera is specially good for the skin and it cures various other ailments.
I am not a diabetic but I do know what aloe vera can do to one's skin. There are countless articles on the net that talk of aloe vera. I use it and I have it in my garden. I just saw one such article which you might like to go through: http://www.naturalnews.com/021858.html

It does wonders to one's teeth and gums too. One needs to take the sap out of the leaf and apply it all over the teeth and gums and keep it there for about 10 minutes and then gargle with clean water. If one has any tooth ache it will disappear.

My mum had an ulcer on her leg for many, many years that would erupt and fester and over time it would settle down again...but it would come back. Mum had medication, ointments, creams, lotions and would freshly dress the wound twice a day. She had to keep off her feet, keep the leg elevated and look after dad and all the housekeeping at the same time. She ended up in hospital many times with enforced bed stay and daily care by the nurses and seen daily by her doctor but still the ulcer would remain and after it was healed, it would later return. It seeped, it festered and it was very painful. I have a cluster of veins in the exact same spot that mum had her ulcer...I often think that it will happen to me too.

Wow some great responses to this discussion and such an important topic. I didn't have the answers but was interested in the discussion as my dad is diabetic and i find it very difficult to advise him on his health as he choose not to help himself as much as he should. I would have never thought the antibiotic could mess with sugar levels and will take on some of these tips when i am trying to look after my father. Thanks for your discusison.

It sound like a very painful situation and it must get you down! I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to medicines, lotions and potions but I do recall a conversation I had a while ago with my best friend who has been studying the art of healing with flower essences. It sounds a bit ‘out there’ I know and my friend being the no non sense type of person she is was just as skeptical but she now swears about the healing power of flower essences. She has seen ailments cured that doctors were unable to fix. Worth a thought if all else fails…There are experts out there who could advise exactly what you could use. Good luck and prayers for you…

Even been told there is not much more that they can do due to the type of Insurance that I have as well. That right there is the thing that I think stinks so badly about the medical system right now. It shouldn't matter what kind of insurance a person has, or even if they have insurance as well, I believe that all people have the right to be treated to the fullest extent that medicine will allow. With my grandmother, she would be given antibiotics for infections in wounds and she would also be given topical antibiotics for the surface. That always worked for her.
