it seems like I'm always picking up after my co-workers. All the long they drop paper, napkins, candy wrappers and they know they dropped it but they just keep on going. Sometimes I leave it on the ground to see if they will come back and pick it up. 9 out of 10 times they keep walking over and over the trash and never bend over to pick it up. Sometimes I go "Hey you dropped something" and then they look disgusted cause they got caught and have to actually pick up there crap I shouldn't have to pick up after my co-workers only because I'm housekeeping. Is it really that hard?

Hmmm... I also experience this a lot of times but nevertheless I still pick the things up. It's better that I do it than to keep it lying on the floor. I'd rather be responsible than be like them. :)

Yes, that's why you should pick it up instead of minding them. LIke I said, it's better that you become the responsible person that be like them.

I hate it when people don't pick up after themselves! Like they expect their trash to just magically get to the trash bin, or that someone was made to pick up after them! Thankfully, people at our office are all sensible and responsible people, so I don't have that kind of problem. Well, after all, we have a boss who would bite your head off if he says you doing that!

That my officemates are responsible people, yes, lucky indeed. That our boss is in our office, not at all! He has made me into a monster that I didn't know I was capable of morphing into! People obey him out of fear. I'd like a boss who gets obeyed out of respect.

Ohh...that would burn me up. I pick up after myself and I expect others to do the same. There are a couple of people that I work with that are like that, but I don't pick up after them.

I shouldn't have too either but I like our place to look nice. We have lots of family and other visitors coming every day and I hate it when it looks messy.

I cant stand when people do that! They just leave their trash as if they are too good to clean up after themselves or like they think they rest of us are on this Earth to serve as their maids I constantly tell people at my work that I am neither their maid nor their momma

I do it at times in my work area but them I'm also the one who's going to come around later & clean it up. If I'm just walking along somewhere I'd never just drop a piece of trash, I can hold onto it until the next trash can.

It really does surprise me how lazy some people are and how they can take advantage of someone else that way. I have seen people do this in stores also, where something falls off a hanger while they were grabbing something and they look at it and walk away. You just want to yell at them to clean it up. It is ashame that your coworkers act that way and that they are simply taking advantage of you because they feel they can make a mess and it is your job to clean up after them. They are acting like you have nothing better to do, I would say something to them to if I saw them drop something and not pick it up. I hope that your coworkers will learn to respect you more in the future. Its kind of like, people don't respect others until they walk in their shoes. If they were doing your job and you were acting like that to them, I'm sure they wouldn't like it. Just ashame that they are so lazy that they can't even clean up after themselves.

I so agree with you, it's not that hars to bend over to pick up your trash. They wouldn't like it if people dropped stuff in their homes and leave it.

hi missybear when I worked in the library we had a sign in the staff room. Please pick up your trash as your mommy does not live here that worked pretty well as we were all to ignore those few who had not got the message.,the housekeeping people come in very early to clean libraries so we were all to pick up after ourselves.,would you believe that a lot of patrons in a library are guilty of tossing crap on the floor although waste cans are stationed all over the library.

That is sad missybear as if they thought they were someone special. I remember at the last office I worked at that I placed a sign right on the employee bulletin board that read, you mommy does not work here. Isn't it amazing at times they will jump over and or trying to avoid rubbish on the floor and they almost trip, yet they still will leave it there hoping someone else cleans after them. *sad*

When I started working there my boss told me that I was there for the patients and their family and I don't have to clean up after the employees. They suposed to clean their own dishes and keep their areas clean...yeah right

It is not hard to pick up after your own things, it is just called LAZY. They probably think that since there is someone else to do it, why not just leave it to them, which in this is you. What you could do is to discourage the habit by picking them up and collecting them. When there is sufficient items, bring it to the boss and said that the colleagues "accidentally" dropped those when walking around. As you wonder if it could be of importance, you felt it necessary to alert him. See what the boss says.

Hey there missybear, You are so very correct you should not have to continuously pick up after your co-workers simply because you are in a housekeeping position. But speaking from experience (where I work now) I know there are employees that believe, well we have a housekeeper she can take care of it because she is getting paid for it, & I, myself find that ignorant!! I believe these people are lazy and I am sure it probably shows in their homes and vehicles! I have even heard some of them say it is job security for the housekeepers! Grrr! I get aggravated because I believe that is just down right lazy and disrespectful! Good luck with dealing with your co-workers and maybe you could speak to someone in a higher position in order to help ease the situation some, maybe if someone (a boss) mentions to all employees that they need to clean up after self and act like a grown adult, then maybe they will.

The problem with that is that I can't stand looking at the mess and we have lots of families coming to visit so I try to keep the place clean.
