On Earth Day, Let's Remember it's Founder

It's Earth Day and a good time to remember its self-proclained founder, Ira Einhorn. Einhorn was your basic tie-dye shirted, bearded, charismatic, eco-head hippy who, as master of ceremonies, led the first-ever Earth Day back in 1970. There was only one problem with Einhorn. He was an abuser of women and a murderer. Of course, when they found his girlfriend's body stuffed in a trunk in his closet some 18 months after her disappearance, he claimed the CIA had framed him. He fled to Europe where he wined, dined, dated and escaped extradition for the next 20 years. After all, he was obviously a victim, right? Even the testimony of two women he dated that he had viciously attacked them and nearly killed them didn't convince his disciples. It all puts me in mind of another environmentally conscious prison inmate, Charles Manson. Manson made headlines this week by proclaiming his belief in Global Warming theory and worrying about the future of our planet. He showed much more concern for Mother Earth than he ever did for mother Sharon Tate, who was brutally murdered by his disciples when she was 8 months pregnant. On Good Friday I would prefer to heed the words of Jesus Christ who taught us to love our neighbors as ourselves than remember those who encourage us to love nature while killing their fellow man. I prefer to celebrate Good Friday, in remembrance someone who was murdered for preaching peace, rather than commemorate a day invented by a murderer.

brilliant reasoning except that it wasn't ira einhorn who instigated earth day. he just claimed to have. the main founder appears to have been the senator anton gaylord nelson. you could probably have fun with that. he was a democrat, had a silly second name and i think did some other appalling, controversial things like campaign for small businesses.

Oh, I know they've distanced themselves from Einhorn and put that Gaylord fellow in his place as founder, because it certainly does a cause no good to be founded by a murderer, but it is what it is. I realize that all the liberal press will try to support them in this. The truth of the matter is that Einhorn was instrumental in starting the Earth Day phenomenon and was the first master of ceremonies. It is also true that liberals and environmentalists all over the world kept him safely out of the hands of the law for decades. If he truly had little connection to the cause, they wouldn't have worked so hard to try to proclaim his innocence or protect him. We've still got Charlie, though.

and your evidence is what exactly? apart from einhorn's own claims and the fact it suits you to believe this?

That's my attitude, too. I will not celebrate any other event on Good Friday, a holy day in my book. There are people that think the earth would be better without humans. But our air is cleaner than it was in the early 1900's during the industrial revolution. And if they are so upset about pollution and such, why doesn't anyone go after China? I've seen some horrendous photos of the damage they do with their manufacturing plants. It puzzles me why people would respect anyone who committed murder or other heinous crimes simply because they jump on the environmental bandwagon.

All those who think the earth would be better off without humans are free to join the Voluntary Human Extinction project.

"It puzzles me why people would respect anyone who committed murder or other heinous crimes simply because they jump on the environmental bandwagon. " well i wouldn't. i am not sure anybody, at least any sane person, would. i also would be unlikely to believe a word a murderer said.

[adding for clarity] if the word of said murderer was the only evidence for something, like being the founder of earth day.

Brava, mi'lady. Couldn't have said it better, myself. And I have never celebrated "Earth Day," knowing its origins & true agenda, not even in my hippie days. I loathe dishonesty! Blessed Pascha!
