Are the celebrations for OBL's death merited?

Watching all the spontaneous celebrations after the announcement of OBL's death was a strange experience. On the one hand, it's good to see so many people praising the US, on the other, there is something disturbing about seeing masses of people cheering the death of a person. Given that his death is merely a kept promise and not the end of radicalism and terrorism, were these celebrations merited?

Long term goals are achieved through short term goals. If we downplay the short term victories, we will never have the motivation to win the war.

But do we have the motivation to win a war that is most likely unwinable. Please do not misunderstand, I am not advocating for not fighting. Whether we like it or not, the people who want to destroy us are going to try to destroy us. To sit around with our fingers in our ears and eyes shut won't stop that. But, in the end, until the ideology which spawned OBL and his compatriots is destroyed anyone who disagrees with them will be at war. That is a long fight to maintain motivation for. Also, I felt that the celebrations were for the ending of something and not part of the continuing effort. It felt that people were celebrating the finish. OBL was the boogeyman and he's gone now, but there are plenty of other things under the bed. Do you think people realize that?

Very interesting Obama said the US don't want to inflame the Muslim people. Two days now Obama had been doing his victory dance across American. Really dose not make much sense. You would think killing OBL would be plenty to inflame the Muslim people....RIGHT????

I agree that it seems a little hypocritical to say you don't want to aggravate them and then kill their figurehead, however, just existing aggravates them, so it's a no-win situation. As long as the West continues to exist and enjoy the live it enjoys, the radicals and terrorists of the world will try to destroy it. Handing them a martyr may or may not make that much of a difference.
