there's really nothing in here that could in any way interest you. so instead of wasting you time and effort, just close this window and skip to the next discussion. so, what are you waiting for? hello there! =) so you decided to read up to this point. actually i'm just curious if this will work on mylotters. i believe that people tend to do what they are really not supposed to, or choose to do something that are told not to. i think everybody has a tendency to be a nonconformist. have you noticed this behaviour too? in what instances?

For the last few years I have a mind of my own and do what I want to do and not what others tell me to do. Therefore I am here. The only thing that I have often been told to do but have never succeeded because there is never any water available even though I would have lliked to oblige, is to wet the paint

'if you fail, you got noone to blame. but if you succeed, you would have earned it.' Absolutely and a great way of going about life!

now why would anybody want to do that? do you mean it literally, or there's another meaning to "wet the paint"? pardon my ignorance. personally, having a mind of your own is good. if you fail, you got noone to blame. but if you succeed, you would have earned it.

but i have to admit, it is easier said than done. try as we might to go about life alone, there were, are and would be times where we NEED to be dependent on something or someone.

Yes, I can be non-conformist but I prefer to conform to the ideals of mylot. Let's have a discussion just for the sake of discussing something. It doesn't have to make sense, or to be intellectual, just make it fun. That is what we are here for, in case anyone has forgotten.

Sad though that the person who started this non-discussion was no longer around to keep it moving. It could have gone far

Yes, I got cut off in my prime too - connection wise that is! But I shouldn't complain since I'm not paying for it. I'm glad we got something going here. I thought I was on my own to begin with.

I will not conform to being a non-conformist. I do not particularly care whether or not something is popular. If I like something and it is popular, then that is fine ... I am not going to choose to dislike it just because a bunch of other people share the same opinion. If I like something and it is not popular, then that is fine as well - I definitely do not expect everybody to share my opinions and think it would be a pretty boring world if everybody did.

When we have an extremely vast comfort zone that means that there is not much left that is new to try out though

I do think that many people are curious about things but tend to go with whatever is popular because it is "comfortable". I think that there is a time and a place for being safe and cautious, but I also think that we will never grow as individuals and truly experience life if we do not step out of our "comfort zone" once in a while and try something new.

yeah i totally agree that if everyone would agree to everything, life would be so boring.. if people want to stay in their comfort zone, they tend to conform to what is popular, but if you want some adventures, you'll surely want to be curious, just like what national geographic says!

Yup, I looked when I wasn't supposed to, but I've always been naughty at heart. I like to do things I can't, when someone says I can't, I say "Says you!" (in my mind, not the them, I'm far too shy for that). When I was younger I was guite naughty, but now I tent to just go with the flow most of the time.

Yup, the more people are told they can't do something, they want to do it, and I'm sure quite a lot of people are like that but they restrain themselvs in most situations. I know I have to. I'm not really that popular, so does that mean I'm good? Lol.

kinda motivational for you then to be told "no". some people are like that. probably people who are either sure of themselves, or just being stubborn for the heck of it. or both. lol. it helps to go with the flow, but i hope not to go with all the time. i heard it once that "what is popular is not always good. and what is good is not always popular". anyway, thanks for reading (and commenting) on something that you were told not to. =)

because of the magic of Curiosity, people tend to do what it ain't suppose to do, it is like a magic potion, you don't have control over it, curiosity want answers, and that desire drives them to do everything, even crazy stuff... when you said don't read, my curiosity tells me to do the opposite, and that's the beauty of how our mind function.. luckily, we are the curious and i bet all would agree that we are brave and genius! rock on mylotters!

I agree that most people are curious, but some just to do not have the courage to explore and test new things, especially if there is risk involved. I believe that it is better to think things through before jumping into them to make sure that the risk is not too great, but I do admire people that have the courage to stand up for what they believe, especially when it is not the popular opinion.

"i also try to understand why those who didn't stand" Does that mean that you try to understand the ones that sit?

we may not be able to control our curiosity, but we can control our actions. i too admire those who stand up against the majority. but i also try to understand why those who didn't stand.. umm.. didn't stand.

Yes I read this discussion. I often find I am choosing outside of the norm. I think this has to do with independent thought. (don't tell me what to do, I will make up my own mind thank you!) I also believe that this is ingrained in our genetics. As an example, my 2 year old son will run away from you if you ask for a hug. If you however tell him you don't want a hug, he will be insistent. He wants a hug. He will continue chasing you around until you give him one. We have never taught him this behavior. He just enjoys being contrary.

it's taking us anywhere, isn't it petersum? =) i am the kind of person that if one way leads me to the fad or to the popular genre, i would go the other way. i don't like the no.1, the no.1 anything, just because it is famous at a specific time. i don't know where i got this mentality. nor would i relate it to genetics, though. anyway, welcome to mylot. oh, and i want a hug, too.
