I'm so close to graduating high school and off to college.. I don't even know what I want to do in life yet. It seems like I don't have enough time to make up my mind. I'm thinking I would want to be a marine biologist or a criminal investigator.. but it's so hard to choose one over the other. They both have their pros and cons. What led you to your major?

I am just finishing my first year in college, as a much older student. I am majoring in literary arts and science because I already know what I want, and that is to sharpen my writing skills to edit my own work..See, a few years ago I wrote an 80,000 word novel and my writing skills were rusty and I couldn't afford over $1,000 to have someone else edit it, so I am learning how to myself...So I guess you can say I already know, but since I am older, it took me most of my life to figure it out..So I'd say for you, just continue to take all the basics you need, and hopefully something will come to you before you select the exact degree you want to get..:)

Oh yeah, I have a few of my favorite authors on my FB and I will see where one will talk ab out getting together with her editor for lunch, etc...But her stories are much shorter, under 60,000 words, so she probably pays under $1,000...

Wow! I never knew authors were willing to pay others to correct grammar. Writing a novel seems fun, using imagination. And thank you. :)

i'm turning 21 next week. here in the philippines i should have earned my bachelor's degree by this time but guess what? i'm back to square one in college. i still don't know what i want to do with my life. but when i chose my first major, i chose the one thing that i never failed during high school. it's not my best interest though. i stopped and now will be taking my 2nd major which is food technology. still not what i want, but i have a contract to take up only specific courses in college. i don't know what will happen to me after graduating, but i do hope it will be good. for you, you should think really hard about what you want to do in the future. think about every single detail you can think of if it's difficult to choose between those 2.

Best wishes for your future! And yeah, it seems like there's not enough time to decide what I want to do. It's so hard!

In college I majored in English Studies because I wanted to go to law school and English degrees are good for law school. I didnt realize how hard getting into law school was and things in my personal life changed the course of my career.

I studied Politics as It's a subject that I'm greatly interested in, and I thought the transferable skills that I would gain from it (such as how to research new topics, how to present and structure an argument, how to effectively use sources and evidence, and so on) would help me, no matter what career path I choose to take.

This is really a daunting task to know what next? After you graduate you have many options ahead of you to choose from like the ones you specified and each having their own pros and cons but what really matters is what you like the most, how good are you at that and finally the chances or opportunities you have. It also matters where your fate takes you, I had myself just finished bachelors in electronics and communication engineering and my real interest is in avionics but i have to go to the Information Technology field because their are more opportunities in IT while not much scope of avionics in India

Hello, I graduated from High School in 2005 and left that october and moved to Pittsburgh, Pa. I attended The Art Institute of Pittsburgh and majored in Graphic Design. I graduated from there in 2008. What led me to my major was just my love for Art and since i can remember i was always drawing. When i was a senior in High School my art teacher would get mail from the art institute and she told me she saw me there and thought i should check it out. She was the main reason I went and chose that field to major in. Good Luck with Everything!

When I was your age I wanted to be an Elementary Teacher. I went to college and became a Teacher working with handicapped students. When I got out I was able to get a job teaching High School Students. After a few years I was talked into going back to school and getting my Real Estate License and went into the Real Estate and Insurance Business and did not like it so I went back to school to be an Elementary School Counselor and graduated with a Masters Degree and took a job in a High School. Due to a sudden resignation I became the acting Principal. Back to school and a Certificate and a new job as a High School Principal. I later earned a second Masters Degree in Student Services and became a Central Office Administrator. My advice is learn all you can when you have the chance even if you do not think you will ever use it. You life may take some interesting twists and turns and you never know where you will ever end up. I never did work in an Elementary School.

When I was 16 to 18 years old I went to a further education college. There I studied Shipping and Transport. Then I worked as a children's nanny in Finland. I came back to my home country and worked as a container marketing controller for a ship brokers. I then traveled around the world when I got made redundant from my job. I decided to become a primary school teacher. So I went to university to study Education and English Literature. English was my favorite subject when I was at school so that led me to major in it. I am now a primary school teacher.

I graduated 3 years ago with a Psychology course. My major is Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Being a marine biologist is also my dream when I was young or to become a vet since I really love dogs.
