More people shop at WalMart than any other store, and 92% of products carried by WalMart originate in China, food products included. Most Westerners are aware of the dangerous chemical contents in paint used on children's toys, melamine chemicals added to Chinese milk to give false protein readings that has sickened hundreds of Chinese children and this same melamine chemical has killed or sickened countless dogs and cats (pet food) in America. Its also common knowledge that polluted Chinese rivers, are used to produce the fish sold in our supermarkets, but some recent research seems to suggest that Nobody really cares! While food shopping at her favorite Supermarket recently, my wife asked the Meat Manager if there were fish on the shelves that did not originate from China. The manager didn't know, so the two of them began a search, only to find that every single package of frozen fish had a tiny notation somewhere on the package, "Product of China." Then she asked him if this was the first query about Chinese Fish he had ever received, and he replied, " Yes it is!" So it would seem that notwithstanding, the sick Chinese kids, the dead American Pets, and the polluted water used to raise the fish that North Americans are feeding their families, Nobody Cares. No one gives a damn!

I think this is a problem that is due to total lack of information to the American consumer. We are so use to taking the safty of our food supply for granted that we never question the source of that food. Thanks for the heads up.

Here in Canada the CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) is supposed to check all imported foods. As Honey Producers and Packers we must be checked and rechecked for various possible food related problems to be eligible to export. The annoying part, Chinese honey diluted with artificial sweeteners has been allowed into Canada. The Big Honey Packers prefer Chinese Honey because its cheap, and blends well with Canadian Honey.

Any edible products coming from China should not be consumed at free will. Even their vegetables are laced with overdose of dangerous fertilizers and the use of human waste can't be discounted. China seems to be a free world market and everyone there is scrambling to get a slice of the world's market. There monopoly as the world's number one exporter from A to Z products have created a confidence of 'trust' among consumers, thus no one bothers to scan, investigate and be concerned of what they put inside their mouths. No wonder people are dying young from known and unknown causes. It is time that the world health organization or any organized bodies take a serious stand on consumable products from China.

I agree that buying and consuming Chinese food products is a dangerous practice that should be avoided especially by young children. Consumers have no confidence in Chinese food products, because the Chinese food production practices are unscrupulous.

It's a scandal for sure. I for one will not buy food products from Asia. Once upon a time, tins of fish would have a maple leaf on top of the can, denoting the product came from Canada. The leaf has gone and now the can bears the tiny "product of China" or sometimes "Taiwan". Obviously, a boycott on these products is required by the consumer. The government is not concerned seemingly so it's up to the consumer. Check your labels - DO NOT BUY PRODUCTS THAT COME WITH EVEN A POTENTIAL RISK.

We check every food product we buy to see where its made and what chemicals are included in it. If any chemical contents are unknown, or unpronounceable, we put it carefully back on the shelf. The Chinese have been known to hide dangerous Chemicals,so its not worth the risk of buying them.

Everything's fun and games until someone gets hurt. That's what it sure seems right now. No one would seriously buy into the notion that these could cause sickness until someone actually does.
