Hello thuthu and welcome to myLot. A;so welcome to America. I agree with the previous poster. Teach your daughter about your Vietnamese culture. It is important that she know her back ground. She will learn about America from her American friends and at school.

You should teach her about both cultures. However, she'll learn about American culture even more when she goes to school. You shouldn't really worry about it since kids learn really fast.

hi thuthu like others have said why not teach her both cultures as you must adapt a bit here to get along with us Americans. Where are you living? I have a suggestion to you if ypu are here in Southern California near Garden Grpve I live in and Area in "Garden Grove called little Saigon which is peopled mostly with the Vietnamese boat people who fled from Vietnam with a lot of them just having the clothes on their backs. this area is mostly Vietnamese mixed with some Americans and they really are lovely neighbors. quiet, well respected, friendly and if you moved to this area you would probably feel more at home. It would be easier for you to teach your son American culture and also Vietnamese Cultre too. I really enjoy living in this area and I am an American born in the US too. but my neighbors here are very nice people.AS a Vietnamese mom of course you want your son to be proud of his heritage and as a new person here you want him to get along well in our schools so mix the cultures a bit and you will do well.yes I imagine our cultures are diffetent yet Thuthu we are also human beings and like ou we worry about our children, our mates, our jobs, and well name it we do share many things with you of other countries. ,,

Hi Hatley, Thank you for your commend. I have little girl not boy :), I know little Saigon. I am living in Florida. There are Vietnamese in my area. My husband is American. I should teach her both culture. I have a girl friend (Vietnamese)who married American too. Her son is 12 years old. He has never been proud of him is a part of Vietnamese. He always says he is American. I am so sad when he say that. He does not accept he is vietnamese either. I do not know why he has kind of thought.
