Recent Flooding in town. Whose fault is it? Mother Nature? or The Government?

"Waterfall" at Tanglin Mall Flood - Water coming in from the streets, formed a "waterfall" in the basement of the shopping center when sudden downpours created flash floods at the street level.

There has been a lot of raining lately and some places has been caught off-guard by the sudden downpours, resulting in flash floods that wreck havoc, especially to the businesses in the area. You can read more in the URL to get the gist of what I am referring to. http://tinyurl.com/3zc4afg Now, there has been grouses in the papers reported. Gripes like it is the government's fault for not doing proper planning of the drainage system in the town area. Especially when the flooding after sudden heavy rains have started as early as last year! And the government on the other hand is blaming the weather, blaming mother nature, and blaming the people for having too high an expectation of living in a flood free area! Each camp has its reasoning and its supporters. Read the link I posted. Look at the pictures. Then let's discuss... when flooding occurs in a build up area like central town, is it the government's fault? Or is it Mother's Nature's fault?

I blame it to the people actually. Here in our place, most people really don't care on where they are throwing their garbage. It's not really the government's fault if people throw their trash in the rivers and anywhere for there is always a government garbage truck who collects garbage every week. People should be more educated on proper disposal of their garbage.

I agree with you. Some people are very careless when it comes to their garbage. Even though there is a constant campaign for proper garbage disposal, many people seem to be deaf about concerns regarding the environment. we just take it for granted and we suffer for it. When disaster comes, we blame each other and don't do anything about it. Somehow, I think we like to be punished every time there's a flood. We don't learn form our mistakes and we assume that the worst won't come.

How can you fault "mother nature"? It rains, and that's it. But..what man does with "mother nature" and how he deals with "mother nature" is what the problem is. Man does this to accomplish that...but what man usually doesn't bother to understand...especially if it is the man called "government" and by men that don't deal with the mother nature issue on a daily basis....they just do and then walk away. For instance...hundreds and hundreds of damns in this country are literally "wabbling" on collapse cause they have had no maintenance/repair in 50 years. Levees and all the things "developed" to accomodate and use "mother nature" have gone all but forgotten and now...mother nature isn't doing anything different, it just looks that way cause man hasn't followed through on their part! Man/government keeps saying theres no money...well...they just stopped a money transaction to Pakistan of $3 million dollars....why don't they put that toward damns and all the other billions that they give to Pakistan and put that toward damns and fix this country instead of supporting an enemy! But the man/government doesn't care about this country. So Mother Nature does what she does and man is choosing not to work with her.

The government is responsible for flash floods whenever there is heavy downpour. They should make proper drainage and service existing drainage regularly and not act only when there are floods. The government should be alert after the disastrous happenings in Australia.

haha. It's not the government nor mother's nature fault. It's our fault. Flooding and freaky weather is due to global warming. Global warming is caused by us, humans.. haha =D If there's anybody to blame, it's us. PLus, there's only so much government can do, and flooding is not just caused by poor drainage system. How about rubbish where people anyhow throw? Choking up the drainage?? lol =D If people can be more considerate, then flooding won't be happening at all.. haha
