missed opportunities in life - missed opportunity

Don't you just sometimes feel like you let some opportunities in life slip?! That if you did something differently, it might have gone better? I know that we don't have complete control on the things that happen around us, but still you can't help feel that it is unfair sometimes. That great opportunities were there in front of you, ripe for the taking, yet somehow you blinked and missed it completety. This is just a rant. I'm sure you all can relate. How do you reconcile with yourself?

It can be tough when you look at them like that. Sometimes it is better to look at the things you would not have had if you had done a certain thing or taken an opportunity. I think that I try to focus more on gains than I do the losses. I could spend my whole life wondering what if and miss out on the here and now.

Hey that's a great approach! I think that is better than thinking of lost opportunities. Maybe focus on the good things that we have now, and look back on the decision that we made to get these things now. Thanks Jen.

Maybe it is because I'm in a happy place. And I can see that ever blunder has sent me through the fire to get here that I don't regret the mistakes, the missteps, the misinterpretations. I said no or made a huge mistake because I wasn't ready to take that step. I was just thinking today about having a job about to be offered but I said no. I wasn't ready. Last year I messed up an interview but I think the job wasn't For me.I wasn't ready. But I don't regret it.Right now I have almost everything I Want. And even if I lose it tomorrow at least I had a chance to say I had a job I was damn good at, a man who loved me truly, and wonderful friends like you and , forgive me for this, i did get to see The Wings win three times. life is good!

Me too. I haven't seen Sports Center since game 7! You should "sit Shiva", a Jewish expression for grieving. They were so close! But don't wallow Too long. Here is a hug.

Hi Sarah. When I posted this discussion, I was actually thinking of last week's devastating loss. And what the guys must be feeling...could-a, would-a, should-a! I have not lost hope, I still think I could still see it in my life time. But in the meantime, I'm just wallowing in my grief, and staying away from anything related to it (until pre-season at least!)

Just did a search on 'sitting Shiva', seems appropriate! I must admit though that I haven't been totally shying away from sports. I still sneak and peek at Soccer results.

It's not your fault dawn. I don't think Ashton was in the radar at that time anyway. Was he even born that time?

I just try not to think about it.. otherwise I get too upset. I have enough things in life to worry about.. I don't need to get myself worried about things in the past I no longer have control over.

I too get too, too upset. If I dwell on the past mistakes. I guess writing it down (and posting it on myLot) sometimes helps. Even without the details, it helps that it is out there, instead of being bottled inside. Thanks.

Dwelling in past mistakes will make us miss current opportunities in life. Living in the now is the best way to take full advantage of life.

Hi sketch. Thanks for pointing that out. I would have never thought of it that way. That by looking back, we might miss opportunities we have at the present. Thanks for the response.

Hey my dear "bro"! Since we are "sibs" you should already know my response!lol I don't think anyone has more could-a. would-a, should-a's then me! Everything I have done in my life seems to have been wrong (say's "Mommie Dearest"). I wouldn't even know where to start the chain of events to fix all the mistakes I've made and still continue to make even now! And my 81 year old mother enjoys pointing them out to me every chance she gets! Life sucks when you phuck it up from the beginning~If I could "do it all over again", I'm not sure I would get it right anyway~Love, your sista

I think you got it tough sis! It's hard enough to realize all the mistakes you made in your life, it's even harder if you have somebody regularly pointing out to you. Thank goodness I live far away from my parents! Like you though, I'm also not sure if I get it right if I get a do-over. Take care sis!

The "Could-a, would-a, should-a!" Well I didn't, lol.. At best I do try to re-evaluate and see where did I miss and or lack the eye catcher. Perhaps I didn't miss out on the catching part, but at least I do feel satisfied that it was not out of lack of trying and or persisting. There are times it was as if I was completely asleep, all I can do is, oh well it and try and pay attention next time. lol So as long as I don't stay in a rut over past things in life I guess progress and further opportunities will come forth, I just have to be wishful and continue persisting.

You bring up a good point, the 're-evaluation'. Usually, I don't like going back on things that I should have done better. I know I should, so I could at least learn from it, for the next time. Sometimes it's just too hard. Thanks HWG!

yes i also have the same feelings sometimes, after thinking of the good and better opportunities that just slip from my hands, well i always answer my self that maybe everything that is happening in my life has a reason, and god has a purpose on doing that,.maybe he want's to teach us lessons and or give us much better opportunities,. for me i got my best reward because i got my daughter..thank god..:)
