Would You Go Gray If You Didn't HAVE To?

Well, soon, you may not! Check out this link: http://bighealthreport.com/1042/gray-hair-may-be-a-thing-of-the-past/ A few things to think about while you're there: If you're older, you might not want to bleach your hair, sa it seems to make hair go gray faster. A protein has been discovered that is (literally!) at the root of much of grayness, & it's possible we may be able to develop shampoos or drugs that will keep our hair not only our real color, but younger in texture "well into old age," if I understand this article correctly. Ain't science wunnerful? So! If you could keep your hair younger, would you? If not, why or why not? Would you find it phony or artificial, or worry about some chemical reaction, or just prefer to "keep it real," or--if you're male--would you think it "unmanly?" Any religious objections? Other reasons? What are your thoughts on this science, & your philosophy of its effects? I would not use such a thing. I like things as natural as possible and I don't look at grey hair as unattractive or a detriment. I'm proud of my grey--I never thought I'd live this long and as Elic said, I've earned every one of these grey hairs! I believe that people who age gracefully and don't get caught up in the frenzy of looking younger and denying their years are happier and enjoy life more. That is so in my case. I have never understood this society's obsession with looking and acting young, as if old age is something to be ashamed of.

I totally agree with you there. No-one is allowed to grow old. We are all expected to cling onto youth as if it is the best thing in the world and will never change. It will, and fast! It is better to grow more beautiful inside than hang onto naturally fading beauty!

Thanks, Maggiepie! Yours is good too! I bought myself a Mandolin recently and am learning to play, when I have the time! Would you like to be my friend?

MANDOLINGIRL: Thanks! I would've gone by "Magpie," for my love all all things bright, colorful & sparkly, but it was, alas, already taken when I joined (about 3+ years ago), darn it! I wish I had a mandolin on which to learn; I once knew a man who played one. He was also a fiddle player, & he toured playing fabulous bluegrass music! Such a pretty sound mandolins make--sort of Irish fairy magic music! Know what I mean? Yes! By all means! Go to your profile & request to be my friend; I'll permit it! I happen to like my gray hair. I have not colored my hair in about a year now. I'm not sure I would buy shampoo to keep my hair color natural. I don't think I would want to spend the extra money for it.

Once, I coloured my hair to get a job. It was an expensive, messy, pain in those days, but I did get a good job. Then after the first year in it I decided to 'revert'. Would you believe it, I had more compliments when I let it go back to it's gloriously greying state!

Sorry! The last line got away from me. It should say, 'its'.

I am already mostly gray, and I think I want to look like an eccentric old lady, so I will probably leave it. I started dying it again earlier this year, and I do not like it. I really like my gray hair, and I am letting it get wild and long as well.

My gray hair does not bother me. I figured i earned everyone of them, lol.I use to color my hair but now i just leave it alone & don't worry about it.I hate to see an older lady w/her hair colrored black. I have never been a vain person & don't worry about my age. I'm just thankful i'm still around, gray hair & all.

If there was a natural way to keep my hair from going gray when I get older I would probably try it as long as it wasent so expensive that I couldnt afford it. I cant imagine that they will really be able to come up with a product that would be safe and not increase our risk of cancer yet keep us from going gray. It would be nice though but I guess I will have to see it to believe it.

Did you read all the info on the link? It looked very possible, from what I saw. Anyway, I probably wouldn't bother, though I have nothing in particular against anyone who would use it. It's just that I'm not into self-maintenance all that much. It's not one of my priorities. I started going grey when I was 26. Now I am a silver fox in my 50s, and proud of it! I personally love to see grey or white hair on older people, as I think it makes them look as if they might have some wisdom to impart. Elders in lots of the more ancient cultures are called Greyhairs. If we all coloured our hair or prevented it from going naturally lighter, no-one would know our age or consult us as sages, and that would be a shame! ;)

Can't really say what i'd do. Getting gray looks cool to me at the moment. I don't really mind following the nature's will. However, when the time comes, I'll maybe consider the ungraying products. As many think though.. I also agree that we shouldn't oppose nature too much. Eventually we will reach a point where we'll have to face nature's revenge..
