Just had some traumatic news about my dad

Hi everyone, Just minutes after I posted a response in a discussion here, I got a phone call from my mother. She informed me that my father had been kept in hospital overnight for tests as the doctors feel he has had a mild stroke. I'm literally sitting here shaking like a leaf.

I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner, but I just now read about it. I hope that by now your father has been released from the hospital and is doing well. I hope that you are feeling better as well. Have a great weekend!!!

I hope that they don't recommend chemo then. I wouldn't want to know that the only option the suggested was going to be refused. What did they do the biopsy on? I thought he had a stroke. I hope that he is alright.

Hi, Yes, he's been released from the hospital, and we are now awaiting the biopsy results, as they will determine what the next step will be. Having said that, my father has already declared that he will not do chemo therapy, but that if radiation is an option, he will take that instead.

Initially, he had s stroke, and while being treated for that, they diagnosed him with stage 4 gallbladder cancer which has spread to the liver. Because it's so advanced, surgery is not an option. The doctors have started chemo at my father's request, but have been very upfront with him in saying that it will only buy him a bit of time and there's only a 40 percent chance it will make any difference. Dad is beginning the second cycle today and then after that's completed, the doctors will run scans again, and after those results come back, Dad will make a decision as to whether or not he wishes to continue with it. He's weak, has no appetite or energy, and seems to be wasting away day by day.

I'm sorry to hear that & wish your father a speedy and full recovery. On the positive side, you say it was mild and this will have alerted his doctors to treat him and hopefully prevent any further, more serious incidents. - somehow we never expect our parents to get sick so it hits us hard, take care of yourself too.

i'm trying, but the hardest thing right now is keeping my mind from going all over the place. It's hard because I know it will be several hours before I hear anything else.

Sorry to hear that. Well is there anything you should be doing? How far is the hospital from where you're at? I hope your father's ok. If you're so far from where your parents are you should keep in touch to get updated on what's going on. Take care.

I will be keeping in touch with family. Right now, there is no other information as my mother is still awaiting test results. She'll be meeting with the doctors later this afternoon.

Hi millie I am very sorry to hear of your fathers mild stroke. I do hope and will pray that he gains strength soon. I do hope all will be okay and that further prevention can be done. Please take care of yourself and try to be calm, it is certainly not easy but they will need you after this. Take care my friend.
