My granddaughter Subhee, is 33 months young, she was going to a ‘play-school’ for the last 3 months, it is near, about half a kilometer from our home. She learnt few letters of English alphabet there, and numbers, names of animals, fruits etc. when asked she writes this in paper and types in computer or laptop, she can switch on both, open words and types. Today we put her in an English medium school. This is about 5 kilometers from our home, she goes there in a hired-car and comes back with other kids of this area, and my son has made this arrangement for her. She is happy going there, today I asked, where had you been, her answer was, ‘to the park. Actually, this school has a garden where the kids can play. I went school when I was five years young; I had to walk to the school, there was no uniform, of course that was 54 years ago. So at what age you, your kids went to school? Normally at what age the kids join school in your place, I just want to know? Please respond and share your views. Kalyani ‘Namastey’. . God bless you to enjoy a lucky day ahead.

My blessings to Subhee. She is an angel, so sweet looking. I went to 2nd standard straightaway. Those days they kept a test and took me to the school. But my children went to school at 2 1/2 years. I think the correct age for children to go to proper school is 5 years and 10 months for First Standard.

Hello Kalyanji, How are you dear? She looks so happy in her photo and must be happy with her new school. It is a sad situation, now kids are joining school at an early age. I have explained the situation here, in one of my topic. Kids should seek the admission at the age of 3 plus and they may join a play school before seeking admission in big school. I went to school at the age of 5 and directly to first standard. There was school uniform in primary school but in high school there was no uniform at that time. There was only walking distance to our school and we used to walk. Now kids are enjoying the transportation, they can enjoy the travel to school in a school bus or van. Good luck and hugs to Subhee.

My nephew was 6 when he started kindergarten because he was born after September 1. In some states, the deadline is December 1 so when I was young, I started when I was 5. Now a lot of kids are put into pre-schools or headstart programs to give them a chance to gain enough knowledge so that they are ready when they get into first grade (usually either 6 or 7 depending on when they were born).

My daughter was five and a half years old when she started kindergarten and Paul will be the same age when he starts school. I did work with both of them at home before their school years started. The reason that I didn't opt to send either of them to preschool is because I think they can learn far more at home from their parents and I also have the time to give them plenty of social opportunities in our area. My nieces, on the other hand, are four and a half and two and a half years old and both of them are in preschool.

Nowadays children are sent to day care at 4 months. It is because working women have to go to office/factory. You are right. In our days we were admitted on completion of 5 years age. those days we had elders in the house to take care. Nowadays there are no elders and even if elders are there they also go for employment. Days change. After fifty years the situation may be entirely different.

Like you do when we where in our school days there are no prep nor kinder students then. I started studying at age 6 or 7 as grade 1 and so on and so on. I used to walk also in going to school as it is just a stone throw away from our house. In high school I used to walk also although it is about 5 km away from home. But in college I have to go to the city to continue with my study. I also selected a university near our home so I can just walk. Now, even 2 years old children are required by some to go to school. For me I want them to enjoy their life as a kid and learning I have to teach them at home.

hi kalyni your granddaughter is so pretty.congrats. I started school at six but had no kindergarten so went straight to first grade, my son was fice and started at Kindergarten then first grade eventually a school for gifted children where he really prospered.I was taken back and forth by my dad as we were country people and he did not want me riding the bus for some odd reason. We lived on a farm two miles from town and the school I went to. naturally because he would not let me ride the bus I really wanted to be with my classmates.

dear maa, Shubee is really cute and adorable and so sociable the way she waves in me (i miss her smiles ) Here in our country, kids can start attending toddlers school as early as 2 years old. But proper school begins at age 4 as kindergarten and 5 as pre-schooler before starting on the first grade. My kids starts with the usual kindergarten school at age 4. But they already knew to write their names, numbers and alphabets. Also recognizes few animals as well. Kisses and hugs to you and shubee dear maa

That is pretty cool that your grand-daughter is learning so much.I started school when I was 4 years old which it was called preschool but it wasn't required until kids were 5 years old which is called kindergarten but your birthday has to fall before a certain month or you can't start kindergarten until your 6 years old so I was 6 when I started kindergarten. Some kids in my country which is the United States start when they are 3 which is called headstart but most kids don't start that young. Most start going in preschool and the ones that don't start when it is required in kindergarten still. My kids both started school when they were in preschool and their birthdays were in time to start kindergarten when they were five instead of having to wait until they were 6 years old.
