Hi everyone! I'm looking for a home based job that will help me to earn extra money even if i'm just at home taking care of my children. I'm working right now but i have plan to quit from my job because my children need me most. However I still need to earn because my husband's income is not enough to support us. If you have recommendations and suggestions, please feel free to reply on this post and let us discuss. Thank you in advance and God bless you!

I know everyone here wants to earn money online but I tell you frankly that it will never be sufficient to support a family not unless you have technical skills that earns a lot online like programming, web designing, photography and editing like graphic arts and some freelance writing. I know its hard to leave the kids behind but to resign from work that pays you fixed income is much more to consider since you have said that life is hard and your hubby does not earn enough. If I were in your shoes, I would be looking for another job, but not online. I have never considered online job as my main source of income, it will never be sufficient enough to practically support and feed a family. Sites do come and go and some mostly becomes a scam, so earning online is not going to be steady like a job you have offline.

That's not always true: I could earn a full (very reasonable) income from online freelancing if I didn't have other responsibilities and could work it full-time. It's entirely possible - but it's just like any other business. As you imply, it's important to consider it very carefully before making the leap: if you're unprepared you could end up with too little money or even more work setting up your business than you had in a full-time job!

My bad, was tired and didn't comprehend the first sentence. Or just read it and my brain was thinking about something else. Oops! Apologies.

@ SpikeTheLobster- Didn't I say Freelance is one of those who can earn handsome amount??? I am just emphasizing that skillful people has the opportunity to earn more, I didn't say negative to try the waters for online, but one thing is for sure, when working online it takes time, not all work online has instant payment, it takes time and a lot of effort to see the fruit of your labor.

You'll need to figure out what you can do to earn, first. There are millions of online opportunities but choosing something you hate (just because it looks like a good earner) is a bad idea. For "real" income levels, you're going to have to go beyond the basics and look at either freelancing or a franchise. The former is easier and more flexible, the latter is an actual business (and usually requires pretty heavy investment). Freelancing, you can do pretty much anything. Virtual assistant, writing, graphics work, dev work, project management, affiliate marketing, building a blog business... it's only limited by your imagination. But - again - you need to figure out what you want to do or you'll end up vaguely wandering from The Next Big Thing to The Big Thing After That, spending money instead of making it. Work out what you want to do, how much time you can commit to it (per week, etc.) and how much you need to earn. There's a really neat tool for the last question at freelanceswitch.com/rates - it's built for writers but can be used for any business to work out how much you need per hour to break even. You also (probably) need to work out a timeline: how long do you have to build up a web presence and customer base before you quit work? How much time do you have every week to do this? That kind of thing. Once you know what you want to do, ask questions. People here are incredibly helpful and know so much!

I think you'd be surprised to find out just how much work is out there. Compared to most places people live (especially outside cities) the competition isn't as fierce as you might imagine.

this is a sound advice SpikeTheLobster. Yes there is an opportunity in freelancing however nowadays the competition is quite stiff as more and more people are being educated about online jobs. I guess it's about finding a niche that one is good at and then do good at it... maybe the returns are not immediate but definitely it will pay off in due time.

I make a decent amount of income each month with freelance writing. If you love to write and are good at it then it might be something to consider. One site that I make most of my money on is Associated Content. They pay members -20 dollars per article they write. You also get paid for the number of page views your articles generate. There are several other sites such as Odesk. I have a profile on this site but I have never used it to earn. However, many people here on Mylot do. I wish you the best of luck finding something that works for both you and your family.

You must give it a second thought first before deciding to quit your present job.Having that job I think greatly helps in your financial standings, as you have said that your husband's income is not enough. As a parent myself,I know we are more concerned about the welfare of our children. If you are referring to on-line jobs, it's for sure you can not earn as much as what you are earning now off line. There are lot's of opportunities to earn on line but you must be choosy because some needs you to invest first before you could be accepted. If you have skills in writing or technical skills about the net you can join what other members here have suggested, in which I guess they do earn maybe not much but it could help. Thanks for sharing my friend.

Very happy to hear that you are much interested to be with your childrens. Now a days no parents is interested to be at home because, they want to earn more and more money. And,they dont take care of childrens properly. If you think that your husbands earnings is not sufficient you can very well go to tuition lines, where you can earn money or do online jobs which is genuine based. You can become any partnership based business like selling products(Amway based).Because, now a days these things are sold in a higher level. My best suggestions is,you can take tuitions for primary or upto what ever level you wish to.I think these idea is useful madam.God is with us.

I have been searching for legit money making site but most of them are disappointing. The best way is still get job physically and earn part time online. Unless you have some special computer skill ie. graphic designing, web designing, writing etc. you can do it full time at home.

My friend tried the website Odesk, it's a site where freelancers can apply for jobs or tasks and gets paid for the work done. She is doing pretty well and earning enough to contribute in the expenses of her family. It's hard work, you will have to establish your credibility and compete with the prices of other freelancers. But once you are able to gain a few loyal clients, then you are set to earning a good amount online
