never ending bark

OMG! I have two neighbors across the street from me that each have a dog. For this topic, I'll refer to them as neighbor 1 and neighbor 2. Neighbor 1's dog is a typical dog. He will bark if you walk by or maybe if he want's attention, but that's basically it. Then there's neighbor 2's dog. I can't stand this dog. He never stops barking...EVER!! I can be in my own yard and he literally barks the whole time I am outside. It's like he has turrets barking syndrome. It is so annoying. I mean I have heard of dogs barking to let the owner know someone is in the yard or passing by, but continually barking when I am in my own darn yard? This is annoying. He watches me the whole time I am outside too. I have just never seen a dog behave like this one. It's almost as if he wants to talk to me or something. It's weird. I have starting lessening the number of times I go outside because I know he will be out there and he will start the ridiculously annoying barking. I like to go outside during the day to break up the monotony and just smell the fresh air. When you are a stay-at-home mom, you have to find ways to stay motivated and keep the drive going. Well, this dog is messing up one of the ways I do this. I don't want to say anything to the neighbor. I mean what she gonna do? You really can't stop a dog from barking. Can you?

That's basically my problem with my own dog too! Everytime I send him out of his doggie house my dog is always happy and lively. But whenever I put him back to his house and lock him there he won't stop barking and barking all day. I need o lock him up there if there are visitors or when it is raining. I am now thinking of buying those dog accessories which will prevent dogs from barking. The barking already annoys me during my sleep.

I would like to say let me know how it works when you get them, but I think we may end up investing at similar times. This dog is just relentless. He wasn't outside much today which was great for me. I was able to go outside and have some peace. I know it won't be this way always, so I've got plans in motion where this little annoyance is concerned.

I agree completely. I never really talk to the neighbor. We say hello sometimes when we see each other outside, but that's basically it. I have never held a conversation with her. I just hope they move one day soon. It just doesn't look like it.

Your problem is harder since you don't have control of the dog. Are you in good terms with that neighbor of yours? I hope you can suggest your neighbor to put something on the mouth of their dog. But it made me think, i might be your neighbor then with that barking relentless dog! Oh well, think I have to use my myLot earnings to buy that accessory to stop my dog from barking. I think it will help me in the long run as I would be able to concentrate on myLot if my dog stops barking!

My neighbors that moved out several months ago had a dog like number 2's dog. It would run up and down the fence the whole time my kids and I were outside just barking away. Sometimes yelling "Shut up Earhart" would do the trick for a few seconds, but not for long. I am so glad they moved.

lilybug, I don't think this neighbor is going anywhere anytime soon. It would be nice if they did though. I remember before they came it was really quiet on this end of the block. Now that her dog is outside all the time it disturbs the peace and quiet in what once was a lovely neighborhood. I don't even know if I should say something because he's not outside all the time, but when he is and he sees me, he goes on and on and on. Even when I am doing yard work. Uggggghhhh!!!

LOL...of course. I think the same exact thing. I'm sure its in my mind because I simply don't want to see the dog at all, but hey who knows. With the way he barks at me he can probably smell me, lol

I think the dog would like to get your attention. Perhaps, next time you could throw at him some food. That way, the dog will know that you would like to befriend him. Maybe, that will stop him from barking at you everytime he sees you.

LOL. I use to do this to dogs directly next door to me because is was easy to do. This one lives across the street so giving him a treat would not be as easy to do. I use to like befriending my neighbors dogs so they would protect my house also, but I'm not so sure this idea will work with this dog. If I could see a way for it to happen I would do, but I'm not sure I could pull this off, but a great idea nonetheless.

dog for me is a friend. for some reason the dog is always humiliated and demeaned, and even used as a reproach. like when you heckled "you dog", you will feel angry, upset and very offended. difference when you denounced your cat or other animal., whether it's contemptible dog? dogs are also animals and are equally God's creatures.

I guess I'm trying to figure out whether or not you read my post or were you just responding for the sake thereof...I have no idea what you are talking about at all. I certainly hope this wasn't some sort of correction.

They make a small device called a pet trainer. It gives out a sound only the dog can hear and will work about 20 ft away. Perhaps if you had something like that you could tell the dog to stop and then press the button on the device to stop him barking. I've seen it work for others. It will not harm the dog.

I can do this to someone else's dog? I have never heard of this. I just know the dog barks excessively and it doesn't seem normal. I don't really want to invest in a dog that is not mine. I don't want to offend my neighbor either.

I completely agree that something is wrong, I just don't know what. They are not neighbors that I talk to other than a wave hello or good day, so I can't say the issue. Just that there is one. I may have to get this little tool you speak of because he rants and goes on constantly and it makes no sense to me. I just love how I find out all types of resources and information here on myLot. You guys are awesome!

It won't hurt the dog only makes him mind. I had one I gave my sister so she could stop her dog from running off when she let him outdoors. It worked to keep my dog from barking every time a car went up the road. I think they sell for less than $20 found in those junk catalogs that come in the mail. I think you would be investing in some quiet time for yourself rather than the neighbors dog. Maybe the dog has other issues. It doesn't seem normal that it barks all the time. Are they keeping him in water and food? Do they pay attention to him? Somethings wrong.

you can stop it barking if i think you (1); adapt the dog from the neighbor (2); , maybe he wants to play and then play with him (3); you can feed him or pet him (maybe you can ask the owner)

I realize this post is old, however, I am just coming back and I wanted to respond. I would rather spend my energy on my own pet. Not one who lives at another household. Thank you for the thought though. It adds insight for me once I am ready to get a dog for my family.

There is something wrong with the way 2's dog is treated. He may be locked up in his yard all day alone, he may be tyed up or just never given a chance to exercise enough each day. There are collars that will give a dog a shock each time they bark, but I think this is cruel and would rather try to find the reason for his barking and cure that. But yes you can stop a barking dog.

savypat, with it not being my dog, there's nothing I can really do about it. I don't think the owner even recognizes that the dog barks constantly for no good reason. I don't think being cruel to him is a good idea either. The neighbor that is directly next door to me also mentions how this dog barks uncontrollably. She however, has enough nerve to speak to the neighbor across the street about it as I don't.

I hate dogs only for this reason. I will say that not all the dogs are like this with me but almost every house dog is like this. Once they recognize me then it is all okay but yes there are few which will not stop the barking even if they see you every day. They bark as if they have seen someone stranger and then they start barking. I feel bad for them because they hurt their throat by doing so.

Dogs are dogs and they bark. That is natural. But when it comes to a point when it is annoying others in the neighborhood then I guess it is the owners responsibility to find ways of correcting it. We have a labrador retriever. She likes to bark and make unnecessary noises everything somebody comes home even at dawn. And I feel embarrassed with the neighbors knowing that it will wake them up. So we sent her to training. And she learned to stop whatever she is doing as soon as she hears the word "No". When we raise animals we also have to be aware that other people also have the right for peace of mind where every home is one the places where we can rest and relax. And I truly can understand how you feel. What is bad is when the owners don't seem to mind if their dogs are annoying others. For them they just leave the dogs alone because they are just being dogs.

ckdbandara, should I suggest to my neighbor that she needs to feed her dog more or let him out and play more often? I don't think I have the right to do this. It's kinda non of my business other than he is a large disturbance of the peace around here.
