Harry Potter Movies Getting Old? Now Another One Yet To Come?

With the release of the newest and what was said to be the final Harry Potter movie tonight, everyone that I speak to has mixed feelings about whether the series has gotten old or not. It seems that no matter if my friends are sick of the movies are not they almost feel obligated to see the newest movie just because they've been following it for almost 12 years since the release of the first movie. Now JR Rolling is talking about writing a prologue and having yet another movie? Really now, do you think this is meant to be the next Star Wars? I don't for see the fad lasting.

I never understood the thrill that people get from Harry Potter movies. When I took care of adults with mental retardation and developmental delays, I watched one of the movies with a client. I just could not get into it. It just felt like I was watching Dungeons and Dragons from back in the 1980's.

To its die-hard fans I doubt it will ever get old. To me, it's been old for ten years. I'm sure there are people who have felt the same about every hit franchise. Star Wars fans haven't gone away. Star Trek fans haven't gone away. Batman fans haven't gone away. They still look forward to new material, even if it's not coming at the pace that it used to. I doubt Harry Potter fans will ever really go away, and I doubt the franchise is going to come to a screeching halt. And like with every franchise, there are people who hate every second of it, some people who like bits and pieces of it, and some people who love it and continue to follow it everywhere.

If JK Rowling writes a prologue for the Harry Potter series, that perhaps won't be grabbing that much attention as the main story did, but of course, we hardcore fans will certainly feel excited to know what the life of James, Harry's father had been like, if she writes about that. As for the movie, if that is to come out, it's doubtful whether it will gain much popularity since it won't be having that much of action as the mainstream storyline had. But it's true that Harry Potter has got a whole generation of fan following, much like what Star Wars did in the 80's. So I won't be surprised to see the effort to carry it on a bit further.

Well, for me, Harry Potter is the very foundation of my childhood. As a child I obsessively read each of the books over and over, but the movies were the real epiphany of my fandom. I have seen all of the movies at least 20 times, with the exception of the newest one. Many people connect to the characters in this movie because they have grown up alongside them. If they were to make another movie millions of people around the world (including me!)would be delighted to continue witnessing the phenomenon that is Harry Potter. However, you are correct, many people do feel obligated to see the newest movie. Although, this is not for the reasons you may think. I believe that people are comitted to watching Harry Potter just because they feel as if they are part of the movies (since they grew up with them) and are therefore obliged to witness the characters live through the next chapter of their lives.

I don't think it's getting old at all. After reading all the books and seeing all the movies, I want to see how it all ends in the movies. Each movie has been unique in its own way so it wasn't like the movies got repetitive. Plus, either Voldemort or Harry had to come to an end so there had to be stories and more movies to get to that point. I never once got tired of the Harry Potter movies coming out because it was always interesting to see how they compared to the books. I've heard that J.K. Rowling isn't writing any more books with the Harry Potter character. She said that she would start something new. Because really, the last book pretty much wrapped up Harry's life and showed you how it ended. Unless she brought back Voldemort or created some new threat, I don't see Harry Potter ever coming back in another book.
