I only know that the Latin name, Lucifer, means literally 'light bearer'. You can make what you will of that, bearing in mind that Lucifer is one of the names given to Satan (an exact translation of the Hebrew); that Jesus called himself 'the Light of the World'; that He must have been well aware of the Scripture. Now all of that sounds like either an ironic 'in' joke by Jesus or a modern misunderstanding of the true nature of Lucifer ... or one of those mysteries or inconsistencies which one comes across and puzzles over the more one thinks about it. A 'light bearer' ought, surely, to be someone trusted to shine a light in dark places and to make mystery as clear as day.

I'm not sure, by the way, that Satan and Lucifer are identical. Satan was clearly around at the beginning of humanity and Lucifer is clearly stated to be one of the greatest of all angels who got too big for his boots and was kicked out. There are a whole bunch of myths from all kinds of Middle Eastern mythologies all rolled up into one apparently homogeneous set of stories in the Bible (including at least two different Creation myths). Between myth and mystery, what are we to believe?

Lucifer's name is said to mean "light bearer" and also "son of the morning" because he was created with such beauty. He was God's favorite angel before he became so proud and full of himself and led a rebellion that got him kicked out of heaven.

Here it is, I found it: Isaiah 14:12--"How art thou fallen from heaven, O LUCIFER, son of the morning!"

Light bearer is the Satan. He is made from light and perhaps, that is why, he is been named that. It is still in use today in Freemasonry. Albert Pike, a freemason mentioned in his book that Light bearer to them is none other than Lucifer. His other names are inferno and lightening bolt.

I have read in places that Lucifer translates to ‘light bearer’. In Milton’s “Paradise Lost’ Satan was called Lucifer as well. I would imagine that these days a light bearer may be someone with enough wisdom to cast light on very dark places. It is an interesting question Pat and I may just read up about ‘light bearers’ and what their actual role is.

Hi savy, If you have never come across this phrase - 'light bearer' I have heard people speaking and writing this noun phrase. What we call 'torch bearer' a person who paves new way or new destination is called a light bearer or torch bearer. The bottom line of this phrase is a competent leader.

Someone who is the light in the darkness should it be. Everyone has light in our soul-beings. There are times when our own lights is weaker of facing adversity. A light bearer can be sent from our Almighty Father to bring hope. A human being who is a lightworker carrry the light into your soul of renewed hope.
