Money the root of all evils?

This is an old adage that has been commonly spoken and discussed about. Who doesn't want money anyway? But reading from other books, majority would point out that it is really the love for the money and not money alone that is the root of it. Take for instance a rich man, he becomes egoistic and proud thinking that his money would makes him greater than any one. Tax evaders commit tax evasion because of their love for money, or if we love millions then lose it, we become so mad. So, is it money alone or the love for the money that makes it so evil?

Even saying "the love of money" is the root of all evil is too narrow a definition of the cause of human evil. The true root lies in our self-centered approaches to life. Anytime we place our own wants above the needs of others we are traveling the road of evil and money is just a grease upon the wheels. If we look upon the seven deadly sins, we see examples of "me-ism" in all of them. Money appears only as one of millios of possible things over which to feel the pull of these bad thoughts. Money, even the love of it, for instance, often has nothing to do with murder as so many murders come down to crimes of passion.

In the end we are just selfish beings, that is the problem with us.

I would normally say that it is the love of money that is evil. But today, the phrase has taken on a new meaning. Money, or the lack of it, has made a worldwide financial crisis. In order to get out of debt, governments are printing more money and thus making the crisis worse. So it is the actual money that is causing this evil!

No, it would be the people printing the money who are evil, not the money itself.

Let's face it, money makes a lot of differece. It can do a lot of things. It can bring happiness..and sorrow.Comfort...and discomfort. Love...and hate.Unity...division.Money is not the root of evil, but evil emanates from evil minds. There are many money people who went from rags to riches, and still they can say they enjoyed what happened to their lives.I think most human can't handle money, but money surely knows how to handle people. As i aged gracefully and gained maturity, I realize money is nothing when your heart is empty and lonely.

Even if money disappeared humanity would just find something else to fight over.Greed is a strong thing my friend, so in truth, the real root of all evil would be just being possessive and greedy. all of which is found in ourselves. If we just learned how to share perhaps there could be more peace in our society.

The adage comes from the Bible and it says that the love of money is the root of all evil. We get wrong impressions when we quote things wrong.

It's the love of money that is the root of all evil. That's what it says in the Bible in 1 Timothy 6:10. It angers me that in the US the left politicians are trying to make people who are successful the evil ones. (They completely ignore that some of the richest people in the US are in Congress, and I think in the top 10, 8 are Democrats.) Most of the "rich" people whom I know are very generous with their money. They just don't brag about it. One guy who is famous in the US and friends with my pastor started giving away 90% of his earnings and keeping only 10% to live on after his first book hit the best seller's list. Another famous Christian who has been on the radio for years has done the same thing.

If one STOPS to think WHY one needs money.. they will soon realize that it comes down to what you REALLY need... If you dont want a COMPLICATED life.. all you need is 2 or 3 meals a day / shelter/ company/ and something to do. You can live on 20 dollars a day or 200 dollars a day. WE MAKE money to be an evil.. but all it really is ... Is a piece of marked paper that we produced to Manipulate the public into being inslaved into having MORE and MORE of it...... you either fall for the LIE ..or you realize that your TIME is much more IMPORTANT than those lit bits of paper~~ its all about CREATIVITY in this WORLD .. the MENTAL TYPE ~~~.

I have heard the love of/for the money is evil. the love of money is the root of all evil. It's not money alone but if you care too much about money and nothing else than its evil. Maybe you can relate this to Uncle Scrooge in some sense that just cares for money.

i think its the love for the money..people tends to loose their minds when they become greedy..greedy because of money..people tend to do negative things because of this..they think of other means to get more and sometimes its in a negative way..people should not be slaves of money..

Its the love of money that is the root of all evils as stated at 1 Timothy 6:10. Money is just a piece of special paper, inanimate. Furthermore, there is nothing wrong with having money considering that we use it to buy our necessities, pay the bills, rent, and others. So its basically the love of money...
