In China there is a new trend of key chains, the living key chains and it is said to give good luck, its a small transparent plastic keychain, with water, oxygen, some nutrient giving stuff, water purifying stuff and alive animal. it could be a fish, salamander, frog or baby turtle. the animal can stay alive for 6 months inside that tight confined place. most people who buy it, just buy it to set the animal inside free. seriously making a turtle live inside a small tight plastic sounds like torture to me. here are videos of live animal key chains youtube.com/watch?v=i9SwPetS-lc the picture below shows live turtle and salamander keychains.

This is absurd. Those who make this kind of stuffs should be ashamed of themselves, this is plain cruelty. Why would they trapped a living creature in that tight and limited space. Even if they put a lot of basic needs of a living creature together inside the keychain it would still be torture. This is just mad. Godbless to those who patronize this stuff just to let those trapped animals be freed. Good thing we haven't had anything like this here in our country.

Of course children will be attracted to this cuties, because the animal that was trapped in the keychain kinda give the children the notion that they can have a creature or animal without them being harmed since the animal is in a that limited container. They would probably think that they could acquire a pet that they could bring anywhere they want and they could play with anytime. Just by handling those keychain can already give the animal a headache or hurt their bodies due to the impact of the bounce or pressure when they are being held, what more if they were being thrown or hang in bags or whatever... and my list could go on and on and on...

I know its a bad way of teaching to have pets, what worries me is that kids may shake that container.that container might juggle if the owner walks.

their explanation: its cool, cute and it brings good luck. seriously I don't think cruelty gives prosperity and luck. it also teaches kids to be cruel to animals. school children usually buy this. we know children have tendencies to hurt animals

That is just insane..I really hate these superstitious beliefs..Can't they just be superstitious without harming animals..They have feeling to, and rights, they don't deserve to be treated like that. I admire those people who buy them so they can be set free..

keychains dont exist in ancient China, so the good luck and prosperity crap is a marketing ploy of the vendors.

D: Why would someone do that? Putting a poor animal in a keychain like that is just awful. *loses some faith in humanity* But it's good that people buy them to set the poor things free. *gains half of lost faith*

Ugh. Who thought of this idea. _ It's infuriating and while I usually object to immediately jumping to the "ban law" option, I COMPLETELY AGREE.

I wont mind them being sold as pets being sold as living keychains, that is like a claustrophobic experience.

killing animals for food, I wont mind because its part of survival but the living keychains are just too much cruelty and unnecessary.

I can't get over this. People actually bought those things for use as keychains? I'm glad people bought them just to release the animals, because this is so cruel. I know we're on the top of the food chain, but still, we should only kill animals for basic food, not use as decorations.

Poor creatures. I hope a law that will stop that would be implemented. I pity those innocent creatures cause they have to suffer and sacrifice their lives because of some cruel people who don't care about other creature's lives.

How would you feel if this became popular in our country? Can you imagine what children can do with these key chains with animal inside. We know children and tendencies to be unintentionally cruel to animals. Sometimes they are not aware they were hurting an animal.

Can you imagine how a turtle inside a keychain will feel if the person who holds the keychain ride a roller coaster, for sure the idea of a living keychain is just sick.
