I Received An Email Today That Had An Interesting Idea In It That Anyone Could

Do without straining themselves. Apparently during WWII Churchill asked all of the British folks to pray for the welfare of the people of Britain for one minute at a certain time everyday. Looks like it worked... The email suggested that folks in America pray for one minute each night (9pm eastern,8pm central,7 pm mountain, and 6pm pacific) for the well being of our people, our country and our military wherever they may be. That is one minute out of our life each evening...that is not much and it might make a difference. It certainly will not hurt. It might be nice for other countries to do the same thing, all faiths, all creeds, all peoples. What an interesting concept....

Has there ever been one single day in the history of this world when it was at peace? At least while mankind was here.

It's a flawed concept of belief in God. Basically God is either deaf or stupid, so it takes multiple or mass prayers to make Him notice us. People who really believe in God know that only one prayer is necessary.

You missed the whole point you know...I did not say that the Creator needed this, I said all peoples, all creeds, and all faiths needed this...You missed the point.

Churchill needed to get the devout Christians and others to participate in the war! That is, the fighting! There were very many who refused due to their religious beliefs. I not sure that it did work. What you want is to unite all people, creeds and faiths - well sorry but that wont work either, unless we have another world war.

You are correct, praying for our nation and its well being will not hurt and it could possibly help. I do not know how many people we could get on board, and how many people would keep up with this in the course of their busy lives.

No, it cannot hurt. Nor can it hurt to pray for peace. Hope springs eternal...

Your opening premise is flawed. It is a bit silly to premise that the allies prevailed in the Second World War as a result of prayer and it deminishes, to use another Churchill phrase, "the blood sweat and tears" of the British people. Another question that comes to mind is what god or gods would you have us pray to? Since there are so many do you know the one that is most efficient at granting prayers. This is actually a dangerous idea in its implication tha our military action is always correct and justified in their actions because god is on our side.

I did not list a god...I did not list a religion...I did not suggest a form for prayer, it could be a chant or a mantra. I do not actually think a god won the war. I think inner peace brought on by a mantra can help peoples psyche and that this can help them in many ways. I did not say that a god influenced the military action...or that their actions were considered correct because some god was on their side.

This is not an unfamiliar concept. Even when I was working in Asia, and in a predominantly Christian country, they had the same thing. They had the angelus at 6pm, and later on the 3 o'clock habit. It was an attempt to get the whole country praying at a certain time of the day. Not really sure, but I think it is still working.

This is not a new idea. this is something that has been working since the beginning of time. When a group of people focus their thoughts on one certain thing, the energy of that thought allows those ideas to come true... Your mind is very powerful. and a collective mind is even more powerful!
