How early is too early?

I like going on vacations and I always end up going last minute. I know that if I book hotels, flights, cruises early I can get a better deal but because of my schedule it is so hard to decided when. How early is too early to book your vacation once you know where you wanna go?

Your response has nothing to do with the discussion. You might want to read it again.

Because of my job, I too have a very tight schedule. And it is also so difficult for me to schedule my vacation. Still, this year I've tried to make it work. Last spring I paid out a vacation that I am to take this fall. It's only a couple weeks left, and I am still cramming, but I am definitely going to make this as I've already paid for it.

If you're planning the trip, the earlier the better would probably be the best way of booking..but if you don't mind taking a chance on a last minute bargain, leaving it late can work too...

I usually book my flight around 6 months before my trip. I like to go for a special deal so I get the plane tickets cheaper than normal. Then I have 6 months or so to save more money for my accommodation, local transport and sightseeing. Sometimes I need to go last minute and do this not so often. I think 24 hours before is too early due to having a 5 hour train ride to the airport for a good fare needs to booked earlier.

I don't think it's ever too early as such as long as you can afford it and you know that you want to go however, the earlier you book it, the more time there is in the middle for something to happen that means you wouldn't be able to go. In this financial climate with holiday booking companies going bust every other day, I wouldn't really want to book anything too far in advance in case that happened to me and I ended up losing all of my money. Other than that, I would just say go for it as we only live once and it's important to make the most out of our lives.

Hello, Flirtykumquat!m To give you an answer, I'll tell you a funny story that happened to me. I was with my friends at the beach in the summer. It was august, and we were discussing this exact theme, when one of my friends said : Oh my gosh, do you realize that it's already 25th of August and in 4 months it will be Christmas? At first we stared, then we laughed, then we laughed even harder when the guy pulled his phone and started calling different hotels in the mountains :) So....It's never too early :P I even heard people who book a cabin from one New Year's Eve to the next. Me? I like more spontaneous trips, though it's true that a little search ahead time can prove useful. We once found a 50 euro 10 day vacation in Greece and it was amazing! My job is also very chaotic and I can't plan my vacations as I should, but I learned to search ahead time and when the moment comes , jog my way through projects :)) Happy myloting!

I think when it comes to booking a cruise, the earlier the better. That way you'll have a better pick for your cabin. A year would be early enough. For hotel vacations it all depends on how popular the vacation destination is and if the hotels are plentiful otherwise I don't think it really matters how early you book. You can get some good last minute deals.

I usually book my cruises a year in advance so therefor i have a year to pay for it. Once you book a cruise you have to put a downpayment down per person then you can make payments on it. Its easier that way so in not stressed out about it the last minute and its been paid for and im not worried about it. Other trips i have found out about through my boyfriends family and then i just know about it and they usually tell me about 3 to 4 months in advance but im not worried about booking flights or booking anything because most of the time we travel by a vehicle when we go on vacation and its usually up North that we go to. I always have a plan on what im doing the year in advance so i can keep others posted to that might want to go and come along with me and the family. We have already stated that are next cruise is going to be in 2013 so we know next year we wil be booking it sometime so we can keep aside the money we will need for it.
