i feel insulted

Until now, I cannot forget that one of the mylotters, to whose discussion I participated and expressed my views have insulted me, last week. I thought, when we participate in a discussion, we can freely express our views, even if it is contrary to the view of the starter . How come, my opinion was met with an insulting remarks, much more end it by using foul words? I felt bad and I commented back for his insulting remarks. Why can’t some people be kind enough to accept the opinion of others. I thought we are here to respect each other?

hi:) yeah there are some that don't know how to respect the opinion of others,it happened to me once on my first week here, it's because I'm not really that fluent in English, but I tried to express what's in my thought in the best English words that I can think of... but he also responded a bad remarks, and insult my English. well I just ignore it haha:D

Someone insulting you for the way you use English is against the guidelines and is worth reporting. I used to teach English in California, and when I see people struggling to express themselves in English here, I applaud them for being brave enough to write in a second language. I would really struggle if I were on a site where I had to try to write in German which I haven't studied for over 40 years and have had very little practice speaking. Back then I could write it enough to correspond with a pen pal, but it would have been very hard to write on a forum like this. You are to be congratulated for doing your best to communicate with others in this way, and I think you are doing very well.

Yes, flowerfest, i agree with bagarad. It's worth reporting , if someone has insulted you for your English. Just keep on writing and express yourself clearly and you will be fine. But what happened to me was an opinion contrary to his, so he got irked and insulted me.

It is really a sad fact that there are people here who would much rather offend you than respect your opinion, much like in the real physical world. I guess some people are just either born that way or bred that way. I hope you could get over this and just be the better person. There is no need to waste time on such immature act. Let this people be them and let us be the rest.

I know that there are people like that, but i never expected that i would encounter one like that here at Mylot. Although, i have already encountered one before, but it's just an insisting way of his opinions. But this one have the nerve to insult me outright! Thank you dear, for hearing my pain.

If it's insulting then that's a violation of mylot rules and therefore needs to be deleted. You can also report that person for eliciting trouble and hope that he gets punished. After doing those two then you can forget about him as if nothing happened. There's just no way you can please everyone. The sooner you forget about that person the better it is for your peace of mind.

You're right Bing, sometimes we misunderstood what the poster is trying to say and instead of asking for clarification we just turn defensive and shut off the line of communication. @simply, nice for taking the courage for asking the person straight instead of sulking and be silent about it while secretly keeping a grudge with the person concerned.

You have your points guys. Like i said , i mulled over it before finally taking the courage to tell the poster. But i guess, he felt ashamed too because of that, since he never responded again. I just hope i made people realize that it's not bad to express what we feel towards what was said .

Ybong and Binggaling, i was thinking of really doing that, but i would like to give him the chance to explain why he has to do that. So, i told him i was insulted. I am giving him his chance to explain his side on why he has to say those things. I feel a bit alright now, with all your responses. Thanks guys, i really appreciate your comments on this.

Is it possible the poster wasn't very proficient in English and accidently insulted you without meaning to? I have often wondered how often that happens because sometimes things can be misinterpreted. I try to be very careful but I htink sometimes things just are not phrased well. Having said that, I am sorry if someone hurt your feelings. That is just wrong and yours' and everyone's opinions should be respected whether we disgree or agree.

hello, sometimes there are such things. I also quite often I take offense to different things but it's for a while and then forget about it. but you're right here, we express our personal opinions and should respect each other. but as it is important not to annoy a lot of it is written in only one site sometimes unwittingly offend some others. nice day!

Nezavisima, i am used to forgetting some not nice things, but i guess this one pained me a lot, because like you said there were others who may read it. In fact, one of the mylotters, defended me in some way, for his being rude like that.

Satryl, You know, when i read his comment, i felt bad and angry and then sad. It was a mixture of emotion. It took me several times of reading it and finally took the courage of telling him that i was insulted. But still, until now, he hasn't answered , hence i am still hurting from it. Thanks my friend, for commenting, makes me feel a bit fine now.

I aso thnk it's a good idea to tell the person you feel offended. If it was done unintentionally it can be explained. Then everyine will feel better and the person who made the insult will be more careful next time..

aha! that's part of being in mylot, i guess over the years i too have felt insulted, offended a couple of times. but yes sometimes when you make them feel you were hurt, then i guess that is already for them to know what they should feel about it, definitely we are not in the position to make them feel bad, or sorry, or what have yous. just ignore people like them who only thinks of themselves and have no genuine concern for other people.

It is alright if we have contradicting opinions and I respect that. However if the person already used foul words, I will feel bad as well. I agree, we should at least respect each others opinion. No need to be too sarcastic, rude and use foul language.

It's really a sad reality that not everybody is kind enough to accept thoughts that are not in line to his/hers. However, even if our views are rejected it is still good and fulfilling to express them. You cannot force everybody to agree with your views, it will not matter after all, what matters most is you just simply be in yourself. Let should always remember that when we say a single word (good or bad) we can never retrieve it. once we've caused pain thru our insulting words, it will already create a mark. Simplyd, don't worry, for sure you're opinion will surely be rooted in the mind of the mylotter who insulted you. his/her reaction simply means that you have an interesting response to the discussion he/she started. thansk.

SIMPLYD, I suppose this is the other side of things when it comes to prerogatives and perceptions where it can be quite a mess when one comes to interpret. Not knowing the exact details, I would assume that there's a misunderstanding to your response and hence some harsh words. However, I would not assume this when the other party uses foul language or the F-word. But whatever it is, I hope that you will treat this like dust on your shoes, dust it off and move on. Don't even bother to wait in anticipation for an answer if the other party does not respond back. It's just part of life, there's nothing to look back especially when the other party is being insensitive. As you can see from the responses here, I am sure you have worthy friends to look forward to especially their posts and comments. So, take care and have a nice day.

Hello Simplyd! I saw your from Philippines also. Though I did not know the exact conversations that you had with the person insulted you, I still think that it was unfair to insult you, a person who is just sharing her thought should be recognized and not to be insulted in return. I am thankful to people who responded to my discussions and I respect there opinion though some and contradicting. I noticed that some mylot members are racist here. Dont you worry my friend, I hope he is too perfect to insult you.

Although we sometimes forget it, given the leeway we get with online activities, the internet-world is just actually an extension of the real world. Like we see real rude people outside, there would also be some online. And sadly some can't take criticisms, or accept other people's opinions. If you've learned to be tough offline, you should learn to be tough online too! Don't worry about these people who have such narrow minds. Move on, as there is surely no value in stressing over this. Goodluck!

Of course, this is a very bad experience for you. Since I join with Mylot, I never get experience like this. Mylot is really favorite for me. Everybody here talk in polite and we can involve in whatever discussion in accordance with our interest. Even, here, in mylot we can get help from friends when we have a problem. Like me, some time ago I had problem with my PC. I post my problem, and it is unbelievable, many friends give me solutions. Finally, I can solve my PC's problem. So, I am little surprised when this morning I read your bad experience. My suggestion, forget it. There are still many good friends here in Mylot. You have a nice day, and best wishes.

Normally here such things are happening very rarely only. Still some people are so serious on certain topics and they will blow heavily. Ok, but it should be on a reason and not just for the sake of it. In one or two times it happened to me also. I come with a nice topic and someone simply remarked with a rage. I just prepared to comment on for the same and in the next login session, his/her discussion response were deleted by admin. I think even they also are having a close watch on things that are happening here. I would like to tell you that this is so common and don't take it seriously and don't feel hurt as well. This is a common platform and people may comment on it the way they like it. But we should be stern and stubborn. If so, their words will fly along with the winds... Thank-s

Similarly, when I faced such a situations, even I got little worried and I decided that I never have any discussion from the user in future. I usually call everyone "Hi dear," and this was my way of talking whenever I start with a discussion in myLot. But she didn't like it and asked me not to call her 'dear'. She said her husband only has the right to call her in such a way. In fact I got irritated and I felt everyone dear for me and I found any foul play in using that word, dear. May be the cultural difference or whatever, I stopped all conversation with her, and she even come with a lot of topics, but I never feel like talk to her. If our mind is clean and uptodate, nothing to worry, still when people have such a perception on us, we may get downsized. Henceforth, I felt bad on keeping any salutation while I am writing and I think this the way some good manners and practices are getting misinterpreted and the value is getting diminished. So what, I stopped one of my good habit and the goodness slowly wipes out from the general culture. Thank-s

That's true my friend. Sometimes, there are people who just would like to hear opinions similar to theirs. Contradictions will be met with hurting words or insult as what happened to me. So you had a similar experience as mine already. I guess, it's but natural that some people misinterpret some of our goodwill or good manners such as calling them that. I don't really find it offending if someone calls me dear. Actually, here in our place , i would always call someone i don't know as "dear" or "darling". But not, if the guy is with his girlfriend though. I think, that's the best way to do, avoid the user we had a not nice experience. Let's just charge it to experience.
