My daughter likes eating meals while watching TV. But my husband and my mother in law not like this and they tell her child only you spend only 10 to 15 minutes on eating so why you are not eat properly in kitchen. But she said me mom I can watch TV only while eating I have no time to spend special time for watching TV. Some old people always told us eating in kitchen is good habit and while watching TV it is not good habit because they feel child cant eat properly in front of TV because their full attention only on watching TV. But new generation child is not understand this. What you think her habit should be changed or no problem because now the child has no more time..so they can watch TV only eating time.. I am sharing my child photo she got 92% in 10th class and now doing Polytechnic 1st.

Hi fantabulus Its very good to hear about your girl. She has done very good job.As per my case, I always eat while watching TV, as it saves me from being bore during just eating.I know its necessary for health but while eating if I don't do anything, I get bored like hell. And TV always makes that time pass easily. And there is no harm either to watch TV while eating food, in fact you are eating food so whats the problem.

Hi fanta Yes I feel kinda bore while eating if I don't have TV to watch as I usually take 20-30 minutes to finish my food.I can only eat food without watching TV but why do waste time if we can enjoy that time too.

To be frank, I disconnected the TV services for the last 6 months. It was my decision to keep away from TV for sometime and I started hate the routine TV programs. Few nice channels become pay channels and they are not available with the channel provider and the one we need is not on it and some unwanted and unproductive programs comes to the TV channels are eating our precious time and these programs never consider the value of a person when it is required. Once it is stopped we have enough time and got a healthy family atmosphere at home. Initially for a week or two, other made lots of noise, which I didn't mind. Now even they say there is peace at home. Even children don't want TV programs at home now! Come back to your topic, it is not so particular in watching TV and having food. Also, it depend on the program that we are watching. However, at lunch time and dinner time if we are observing a movie or a continuous program of 1-2 hrs. and for not to disturb the program continuity, I would eat and continue seeing the program. Any way, for children you can imagine that they don't want food also if they are keen on seeing some interested programs. Thank-s

Wow I have heard others also say they would turn off or get rid of their TVs. I don't think I could not have done that when my kids were livng at home and no way would I do it now. Of course with the Internet I suppose the TV is not as big a deal. If forced to choose just one I would chose the Internet. Kudos for you trying to do the best for your famil and turning off the TV

Initially it was a problem for all, but now nobody is bothered of it. Sometimes I just start the TV as it's having a build-in FM channels as my TV set is of 3000 Watt output. I will enjoy the music with its best. All the more, having a TV connection is required otherwise we will lose the update on the things happening around. A news form the news paper these days are so late as compared with live progrms are already telecast instantly. Thank-s

The only bad thing I can see about it is 'getting food on the furniture,' which attracts bugs. That, and food-time should be family-and-friends-time (not 'imaginary friends'-time, which is what it becomes with the TV on.)

First my congratulations. You have very talented child. If she got no time to watch tv why you just let her watch while she is eating? She is not addicted to tv as you wrote that she got no time to do it. Sometimes I eat watching tv because as your daughter I have no time to do so otherwise.

My dining table is in front of the television set. So most days I eat my meals while watching TV. And since I am alone for dinner most times it is a good time for me to catch up on the news channels at that time.

When my children were little I would not allow TV during meal times. Meal times for us my children and I were bonding times. We enjoyed our meal and discussed daily happenings and fun times. I did not want them to watch TV while eating as that way they would not enjoy their meal and or tend to over eat that way. Being a single parent and working it was important to me that all meals we could enjoy as a family. I am happy to hear that your daughter is doing great in school. Congrats to her and wishing her a great deal of future success in school.

I love it dear but be careful because a research shows how the hunger increases up to 9 times if we don't pay attention to the food while eating like in front of tv or computer.

I have never heard that staistic but not surprised. Often sitting in front of the TV is just 'mindless' eatig with no awareness of how good the food tastes, etc.

My child when she was still a kid, used to eat in front of the TV, watching cartoons. The nanny would put the food into her mouth and she just keep on eating. As long as your daughter is eating well while watching tv , then it is okay. Like you said , she gets very high grade in school , so it means eating while watching TV is her way of maximizing her time, so as she could study later. Or maybe she's watching a TV program, which she cannot watch in any other schedule anymore, because she has to study.

The news coincides with my meals so I watch it while I eat. Morning news with breakfast, midday news with lunch, and evening news with dinner.

Congratulations to your Daughter! I don't really think it matters where you eat your food. Some eat at the kitchen table, some in the bed and some at the computer. Some people don't enjoy their meal just sitting at the table and eating their food. When I eat, I need my radio so I sit next to my radio while I eat. My Mum eats in bed while she watches Tv. There's nothing wrong with it. Just don't over do it or else you might get a little chubby. We got to balance our lifestyles with exercise and physical activity as well!

A lot of people even have TV's in their kitchens now. I clean houses for a living and most of my clients do. I have a lot of TV's in my house too, I have to admit. And I am sure at least one of them is on when we are eating dinner. But my mom and I eat dinner together most of the time at the dining room table and there is no TV in there. They say it isn't good to eat in front of the TV because you usually will over eat if you do because your mind isn't on your meal. Also if you are watching TV you tend to eat too fast. If it's a young child they tend to play and watch TV and not eat there food. It's also a good idea to eat as a family because that is when you should be talking about your day. The kids should be telling their parents things about what happened to them at schoool or such. Good place to communicate as a family. littlemissy here signing off for now

Studies indicate that eating while watching television contributes to obesity. We shut off the television and eat at the table and have conversations at the table. When my kids were small I read books to them at the table while they ate and we also took turns reading around the table. You know, television is not necessary to live.

I also watch TV while eating, in fact I cannot eat if the TV is not on. Even my kids are like that, usually it is said its bad habit to watch TV while eating. I also read together with watching TV while eating. It has become a habit but if your in-law and husband can change the habit of your daughter then good. But like you said if its the only time when she watches TV then just let her be, why pressurise her so much, its not that harmful.

Hi, fantabulus. Yes, I usually will eat meals while I am watching television. I just don't eat any heavy meals when I am watching a horror show. If so, I will turn the channel from this nasty show. My kids watch TV while they are eating too, sometimes. Lately, I have been known to turn off the TV while they are eating because they end up spilling some of their food on the counter top or the floor. Congratulations to your beautiful daughter for making such great grades!

First of all, she is beautiful. The teenagers nowadays are really getting hard to follow rules of old days. We really need to respect the grace of God as they say but since all are always in a hurry maybe you can just tell your kid that before taking the food just tell her "say thanks for this food Dear God." And just see for yourself that the food she has taken or to be taken is healthy so that when she finishes you know she is well fed of all the basic food group that we have learned about in school.

Hii fanta:your post catch my eyes at the first time.As for your question,I will definitely say "I do!" there is no doubt that some TV progroms are so attractive that we can remove our sight away.In my family, watching TV at mealtimes is a routine part for my brother and sisters. They always indulge themselves in TV show even though my mother shout loudly for them to turn off the TV and come to eat.But in most cases, they just keep busy watching TV and take my mother's word like a passing wind. As parents,we can not stop our children from wacthing TV as long as they promise to eat properly.I also believe your daughter will not let you down as she is not addicted to watching TV,she just regard it as a way to relax herself. Lastly, congratulations on your daughter's achievement.

As for me, watching tv while eating or eating while watching tv is not good. It makes a child not healthy because he cant enjoy what he eats. I have read from a book that a person who does not enjoy what he eats sometimes ends up not gaining the nutrients of the foods, the foods that is nutritious, of course. Best advice to everybody, do not watch tv if you eat because its unhealthy.
