destined to be a hairdresser?

My big mistake was not getting a photo... Wednesday night I'm in the kids' bathroom, and there's hair everywhere. Yep, Cary decided to give himself another haircut. Holes everywhere! Dreadful! So Thursday night after karate I took him to get a haircut. A SHORT one. That was the only way to fix it, really. The lady doing his hair must have only seen the hole in back. She says, "he cut it here, so I'm going to do it really short in back." "That's why were' here." Then she sees the front. So she starts cutting it, and the whole time Cary keeps saying, "but I like it like this." End result, Cary's hair is the shortest it's been since he was a baby and he didn't have much hair. He's going to look real good for picture day on Tuesday. But dang it, I really missed an opportunity for a great blackmail picture for when he's older. I didn't get "the haircut" that he did on camera. Oh well.

My kiddoes never did that extreme a hair cut. I have, on myself. At 2 in the morning once. It started out to be a little trim. Bear in mind I have almost always had long or longish hair. Hubby only had to trim a snippet or two, he thought I did a great job. (He was a truck driver and was gone when I did it.) I had one woman walk clear around me trying to find my pony tail. I have seen some interesting child inflicted hair cuts in my day.

I never did myself a haircut far as I remember. But I was notorious for scissors. I once cut up a dress that my mom had spent ages making. She was furious...

hi dawn when my son was five he cut off the fringe on one end of a brand new bath towel i had just got as a gift. his explanation really floored me and I had to laugh He said"but mom its all unraveled its supposed to be woven not scraggly" he was sincere too that kid grew up to be a gifted teen that we had to send to p rivate school as he was too far ahead of his classmates. I have apicture of my towel and he did not believe me when I showed it to him at twenty, oh mom I could not have done that, did you s pank me? I ha d tol la ught as I was never a spanking mom at all.

I am fortunate, my kids never cut their own hair and if they did, they didn't chop it so it could be easily fixed...You really should have gotten pictures though..

Don't ya hate when they give themselves hair cuts? I have two who are willing but I'm not willing to pay for a pro so I do them myself as best as I can. My oldest needs to cut her bangs she's convinced she has to grow her's out like this and that friend has them. Yet she comes home and says Mrs S is going to get me some hair clips...yeah cause neither of us can figure out how you see out of those bangs... reminds me of "cousin it". Someday I'll see those brown eyes of hers.

hi snuggle bunnieds oh my cousin It that makes me smile for sure had not thought of it in years. I used to wear bangs but they always grew out so fast then I would trim them and do a horrid job so had to go to a beauty parlor and have my favorite one do my hair cut for me, she would always say oh yes I see you tried to do your bangs yourself. but she did do a lovely job too., she worked in jc Pennys.

I sometimes cut my own bangs too, just doesn't seem worth it to me to go in and pay for a haircut when I just need the bangs trimmed.

That is funny! It would of been great if you had a picture of this! I love when parents can blackmail their kids! Like the bathtub shots! I know most parents have them around somewhere!

Why is it that they choose the day or week before pictures? My sister son took a sissors to the front of his head...took one big clip down the middle the day before school pictures....there wasn't alot she could do about it...worst part was that he did it in school....with two other little boys...they had the same spot missing in their photos!

I can just picture out how your son look like after he cut his hair. I had the same episode as well with my son. One time I went into the living room and I saw some hair on the floor. My daughter answered; "it was Karl's mom". I cannot imagine already how bad his hair was because there were a lot of hair on the floor. When i called him up I tried to act normal. I got the mirror and showed himself in front it. It seems like he didn't have any idea how bad it was as he ran and covered his head under the pillow after. I tried not to laugh at him but it was really really bad. His dad couldn't even got himself to get angry anymore, he just laughed and laughed and I think it even made our son felt bad. But he really looked so funny then, we even got some pics. Well that afternoon his dad had to bring him to the barber shop and shaved his hair.

I don't think you have much to worry about. If your son is anything like I was when I was young it will probably happen again. I used to always be cutting my hair up til I was a teen and then I let it grow long and have had this way ever since. But I bet he will cut it again.

Oh my..you must have those pictures. They are the most fun. I have a couple of pictures tucked back that my children despise. I love it. My daughter had beautiful hair...almost to her hiney and she took the scissors to it and all she had left was one very long strand in the back. After my crying fit..we went to the salon and they cut her hair in the cutest little flip out bob...very short..but cute nonetheless. I don't think I got a pic of that either...oh well..I have other good pics..hehe.

Yes, you definitely missed an opprotunity to blackmail him. The before and after shot. I think a lot of kids try cutting their hair and end up messing it up. I did it when I was young and when the hair stylist was done fixing it I had no bangs. I was a hard lession to learn. I've never tried it since. Best Wishes!

Mom says we used to do that too, try to cut our own hair but mess up I am glad I can cut my fringes on my own these days. And also sometimes give my friends some haircut but no I'm not trained. Seems like the childhood practises worked good on me you seem to be like a very fun mother. I would like to be like that someday too

Your son tried to give himself an haircut? How cute! But to stick on the safe side, just bring him to the hairdressers. When I was a kid, my parents use to cut my hair because I never liked going to the hair dressers and my parents wanted to save up money. My Mum always gave me an ugly bowl cut fringe, it had to be perfect so she would cut and cut until my fringe was no longer a fringe. I have a Cleopatra hair cut for quite a while and then in high school I decided to just go hair dressers. I sometimes trim and layer my layers but that's all I'm doing. Don't want to ruin my hair.

hi dawn yeah you missed a great opportunity to have a blackmail picture lol. this reminds me of the time my son was six and his sister five. I heard her say " wobbie no no lisa no like that."I hurried in to their bedroom just in time. He had my sewing scissors and was telling her"your hairs too long Lisa.: He had got the scissors caught in her long hair in back and it was pulling and hurting her head. so I had to carefully unwind the scissors from her hair. she had the most lovely dark brown hair. I was ash blonde abd had two children with dark hair but their dad had black hair so we did not know where the brown hair came from b ut think it was from my moms side.so she did not get a short c ut after all.oh'I can just imagine Gary in his picture day picture with the too short hair cut,. wow. good luck.

Don´t worry about the picture you did not take. Surely, following Murphy´s laws, you would have not found it when you wanted to blackmail him My second daugter used to take her skirt up wirolling it into her arms. I was shoked thinking that she´d do it until she was a granny. Fortunatly she outgrew that fhase and she has to dress very formal as she is a judge. Probably that´s a kind of witches´ curse

I practiced my hair cutting ability or non with my brother. I was laughing so hard and he get mad I cannot blame him for that because his hair looks so bald in places and resembles the rice terraces in the Philippines. He never let me touch his hair from then on. My daughter hid her scissors when she tried experimenting on her hair when she was small. Thankfully she did not took after me because she just snip some extra hairs( no damage done..whew! that was so close).

You definitely should've taken a picture of that moment. Those type of moments are priceless, he probably would have hated you later for even taking it, but it is guaranteed a laugh for the future and I mean it in a good way. I have taken pictures of embarassing moments of my family and after we look back at them we all tend to sit and just laugh at all those silly moments. I would love to say that he probably learned his lesson, but boys being boys and how stubborn they could be most of the times I am sure he will attempt it again.
