I thought this might be interesting to share for those that seem to have a sudden inexplicable sweet tooth. According to studies after studies that sugar is addictive, a recent research at Yale University has revealed that some of these addictions which are being caused by eating ‘bad’ carbohydrates such as sweets and biscuits, affect the part of the brain controlling impulse. This loss of self control is responsible for the burgeoning global obesity epidemic. However, there's more than it meets the eye here when part of this craving is related to some underlying medical condition which is unbeknown to us. Dr Jacob Teitelbaum in his book, "Beat Sugar Addiction Now!PDr Jacob Teitelbaum in his book, Beat Sugar Addiction Now!" - describes sugar addiction as the ‘canary in the coal mine’, saying it often points to an undiagnosed problem such as failing adrenal glands or even too much ‘bad’ bacteria in the gut. He identified four types of sugar addiction. He says they are triggered by different causes, from hormonal changes to infections. 1. Thyroid Failure 2. Yeast Infection 3. Adrenaline Overload 4. Menopause or Pre-Menstrual Tension (PMT) I am sure you do not need me to dwell on the consequences of each of these conditions and effects it will have on us. So, I would suggest that you be careful when you have another craving for sugary foods or drinks - believe me, it is unwise to give in and satisfy it. Doing so would just be bringing upon ourselves something even more considerable to our health. So, cutback or better still keep away from that cookie jar or tumbler of ice cream before you regret it. Take care. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2042182/Could-sweet-tooth-warning-sign-youre-ill.html

Luckily, i seldom crave for sweets. It's more of fruits that i would crave for. When i have eaten a heavy meal my mouth craves for pineapple. And i would want a whole small one , not just one slice of it. So maybe that's one reason why i have a low BP and my cholesterol always in normal level.

SIMPLYD, I can see that you have a thing with pineapples and I thought I just ask that you need to be moderate eating it. For one, pineapples are known to be a good "detoxification" fruit and Chinese medicine seeks abstinence of such a fruit when one is under a course of medication and/or taking health supplements. So, if you are taking supplements for your low blood pressure and have not been experiencing much improvements, then it would be advisable to keep away from it for a while especially when you are medicating. Take care.

I am trying to curve my cravings for a pineapple , because of my low bp. If i used to eat it almost everyday, a half of one whole of it, now i only eat it once in a while. Though, i couldn't resist just eating one or two slices, but a lot. Thanks for reminding me that, my friend.

Sometimes I have that intense cravings for sweet stuffs especially chocolates. When a friend was diagnose with diabetes recently it made me think seriously in reducing my sugar intake. I don't want to end up as the next diabetic patient. A diabetic patient suffer more especially when they have sores in any part of their bodies as it take ages to heal.

Hi stary1, our supermarket shelves don't sell sugarless chocolates. Probably because they thought only kids like chocolates that are sweet. They have forgotten about adultkids who adore chocolates too.

I have eated sugarless chocolate candy that is delicious...I am not diabetic but I really like some of the sugarless chocolate and it helps me not to crave sugar. I just have to eat it in moderation.

zandi458, On the topic of cravings, especially when they are one of those occasional spurs - follow it and have that chocolate. I've read it from some place that these cravings sometimes are actually being motivated by our bodies which need a certain nutrient from that food that is badly needed by our body's organs or well being. So, please do not deprive yourself when you need (want) to eat. About diabetes, I believe it is a condition that will befall on any individual for no rhyme or reason. Also, it is a manageable condition despite its potential severity - so do not be intimidated or discouraged by such an illness.

You have certainly opened my eyes to something real serious with regard to my health. I have a sweet tooth and I often crave for it. As a person with lack of discipline I often give in to the temptation. I would justify my cravings all the time. I am having some problems with my weight now and that is because of my lack of discipline. I guess I should be punching myself now and really be serious about my diet and my health. Thanks so much for this very informative post.

Adrenaline Overload has gotten to be an epidemic that has been masked over by sugar and caffeine. so many people are just so busy these days that they don't have much time to slow down because they have to work and pay bills.

elmiko, I believe that it can be interrelated when our lifestyle can actually be quite involved with work and diet. Just be careful when you are experiencing tell tale signs here.

Interesting study...I have found my cravings for sweets come after I have been eating sweets . If I give them up for a diet etc., I no longer crave them. I also find as long as I don't take that 'first bite' of chocholate cake or whatever, I can resist. Once I taste the cake, it is gone (just joking..kind of)

stary1, Interesting indeed. I hope that this will help people understand and look deeper into issues that can affect our health and well being. About the issue on pineapples with the first respondent, I learn this from Chinese medicine terminology where its practitioners will advise against eating it when their patients are medicating. Also, it is another fruit for asthma sufferers to avoid.

OK thanks..lol the reason I ask is I eat pineapple everyday and take supplements and some meds . I have never heard this and have been doing this for years..I don't eat a lot...about 1/2 cup I guess and mix it with cottage cheese plus 2 or 3 other fruits in season. I get Dole pineapple in natural juice and I recommend this to all my friends. LOL I don't want to mislead anyone. As for me as I said I have been eating this way for years everyday. I know everyone reacts differently and my concern was with others to whom I share what I do...
