When is the Best Time to Start a Discussion on Mylot?

Someone suggested a long time ago that the best time to start a discussion on mylot when it is evening time in the USA; that is 7pm onwards in most US cities (prime time). The reason being that a lot of users are from USA and you are more likely to get responses. But then there are a lot of active users from the Philippines too and they are on a totally different time zone. But perhaps starting a discussion at the end of the month may gather a lot of responses because people may be trying to reach payout before the month ends. Do you plan your discussions this way? Do you look at the time of the day or time of the month before starting a discussion? Are the assertion above true in your opinion?

I don't start many discussions and find that when I do I try to do it as early as I can so that I can have ample time to attend to my own discussion. Early for me is the same as myLot time, which is Central Standard time. I try to around 10am and or no later then 4pm. I do get a great deal of responses the day I do post the discussion, on the first and second day. It then dwindles down a bit as the rest that come in are from those who perhaps were not online when it was posted and or the others that now are able to see it in the recent discussion tab. I have a wide mixture of listed friends from different time zones and find those times work best. If you are looking to get many responses then it is always best to comment back immediately as this continues to bring the discussion back up to the recent tab. As mike says above if you are consistently responding to others discussions they usually are more apt to respond to your started ones as well.

I like all the points you have suggested. I think you and mike are pros at this mylot think . I try to comment on all the responses I receive and I try to respond to friends' discussions especially the ones I have answers to. I will try to keep all the points you have raised in mind.

I am in the US and yes, I do plan my discussions this way. I do look at the time of day I post a discussions because if no one is on it will just lay dorment and get very little if any responses. Waiting until the end of the month will give you some added cents you may need to reach payout.

I understand your points quite well. It is good to start discussions when we can get responses. It is quite sad if no one responds.

I just ignore the topic in my case and assume no one is interested.

If you have a particular target audience, then start your discussion according to when you think they are online. Personally, I start a discussion whenever something good to discuss comes to my mind. Plain and simple. If I want to make sure, after I have started it, that certain groups see it, then I will comment on a response during that time frame. In the US there are four different time zones, so you must take your pick. That is still not a guarantee that you will get the attention that you want if they did not want to respond to it.

I do not start many discussions, and when I do they tend to stay active a long time.

It seems you start discussions that many mylotters can relate to hence, the high impact they have.

I guess I do not have a target audience per se. I have friends from all over the globe and many I do not know their exact countries. I think I am like you most times I just start discussions when I have something to discuss. It takes me a while to get a new topic to discuss.

Well I haven't really thought about that. I just post a discussion whenever I have doubts in something and need help from everyone here to help me out. I do get great responses but I know sometimes I do not get responses at all is because of the confusion of my thread. A lot of people do reply when I make sense though, no matter when I start a discussion.

What I usually do is when I start a discussion, I wait til the next day to see if anyone responded.

It seems the time of day does not really matter because there are always active mylotters from all over the world all the time. As long as the discussion is about some thing the mylot community can relate too then there would respond to it and we can have a conversion with them.

hiya 2wicelot! hmmm....i'm not sure if there really is a 'best-time' for starting discussions to try and get a lot of responses. i sincerely think that it's how we as the discussion starter can catch the attention of the potential responder, and then it is how we can keep the attention & the momentum of the discussion going....and going....and going... that makes the discussion a good discussion. that's how i plan my discussions, and then i just 'go with the flow'... well, that's my opinion

yup....exactly! best to also just focus on enjoying ourselves with the company of others, rather than to worry about *not enough people responding, boring discussion topics, unsure what to write, etc, etc.. just go with the flow and all will fall into place

I didn't plan my discussion time before. I just post discussions when I have views or want to discuss somthing. How does the mylot pay the users, in month or when the earnings reach a set value like USD10.00 or more?

I think that is a good way to do it because it does not matter the time of day, some mylotters are active somewhere around the world. Mylot just pays you to your paypal if you hit the payout ($10 in your case) before the month ends. It is automatic.

i am not sure about this. all i know is that i start a new discussion whenever i have a new idea or there is something that happened to me or with someone that i think would be interesting to share with the other members. in any which time, in my opinion, you start a discussion, it will get a response from members coming from other time zones, as long as the topic is good and interesting and they will be interested to read it and response. it could be true but it's not completely the reason.

I don't really think too much into when the best time to post a discussion is. I have a couple of hundred friends on here and this means that I always get some responses whatever time of day I choose to post the discussion. I don't really aim to get lots of replies to mine anyway; as long as some people will respond to me, this means that I am able to post my own views back and get into a conversation with them. When I have a good discussion in my head, I will get it posted before I forget about it no matter what time of the day or night it happens to be at the time.

The topics are all categorised as you will see on the home page. It matters little when a topic is posted as it is available for everyone to see round the clock under different categories. I will post a topic when an idea occurs to me and when I have time for it.

There isn't a best time to start discussions because mylot is an international site where exposure is high. NO matter what time we start, those discussions will enter our friend's inbox via notifications. As long as our discussions are interesting, it won't go unnoticed for long. If we want more responds, then we have to look to ourself, create interesting posts.

I'm on myLot to give people advice (yes, that is partly 'just to hear myself talk,' like I do on YouTube on the mythmanjay channel; but that AND this is more 'to validate my ability to "talk"' than some sort of self-love) I say that to say that my focus IS NOT on whether people LIKE what I have to say or not ... not focusing on HOW MANY people participate. Sure, the subjects I talk about might get some fine-tuning from the Yahoo! Buzz-List ... are people still talking about 50-year-old Heather Locklear and the reality-TV show she might be on?... But I contribute questions-&-answers (almost daily) whenever a question seems interesting. Popularity rises & falls, but I will try to be constant.

Hmm I had never thought there would be a good time for starting discussions. I just go on and start as soon as something pops in my head, regardless of the time, coz I know if I wait, I'm going to forget it lol

I really don't mind the time as to when I post my topic :P I post discussions whenever I feel like doing so or if I find something interesting worth sharing or asking :D There are users who takes into consideration the time (especially before myLot time ends) when they post :)

So i believe that you are correct that the best time to make a discussion is later at night after 7 and i think this because other countires not the USA is getting up at that time and there are alot of active members in other countires that are waking up at that time and are going to be onmylot working for the day. When i wake up in the morning and till about 1 PM USA time there are alot of discussions for me to respond to and then not till the next day do i find it being active here on mylot and i believe becasue more people in other countires are starting discussions. In the morning is when im most active and find more discussins to respond to as well.

Hi 2wice a lot: Though I am not a big topic starter, I think there's no such a thing as best moment to open a discussion, specially when people are online here 24h/7 days. And at the same time, even if you want to receive lots of response from the first hours you submit a new discussion, I have found that people keep participating after days or even weeks after I post a discussion if the subject is good and people find it interesting. For me, it is entirely not true though. Because I have to work during the daytime, so usually evening time, I would have more time to make response to mylot members discussion online. Or during the weekend, and I would spend more time on mylot and make my discussions and also response to others discussions too. At the end of month, I probably would try my best if I see my earning is closed to payout, if not, I might take my time and no rush on me.
@2wicelot (2945)

I see your pattern. You just take your time and just participate when you are able to without any rush or pressure.

I don't think that matters. Besides, like you said, there are many people here in MyLot and they are from all different time zones. So, in my opinion, it does not make a difference. I start discussion at all different times.

From the responses I have received it seems the time does not really matter because there are active mylotters fro all over the world all the time. But you need to have a good topic that they can relate too and also put it in the appropriate interest. Among other valid suggestions.
