Do you encourage people quit smoking? I personally not a smoker, nor my family members smoke too. Except a couple of my friends do smoke occasionally, mostly when they have a stressful days. "Quit Smoking" campaign is out there for while, and not many cities really do something about to discourage people to quit buying cigarette, or quit smoke. New York, this year will be the leading star. They increase the cigarette tax up, and it cost a pack of cigarette approximately $11.00 to $12.00. Also, the city government has these promotion and advertisement about the risk of heavy smokers. That help discourage many people choose not to smoke. Oh well, better alternative is chewing gum.

my brother and a few friends smoke, i do have a dig at one of my friends as he does know better. he will also go for longer periods with out having a smoke. As for the price it does depend on what brand and how many you buy, i think some are nearly $20 a pack here in australia. then if you chew normal gum, there is a warning about a laxitive effect if you chew it to much. suggesting a person quit smoking could cause a bit of a heated debate, and you could lose a friend. so it's another case of tread lightly, as people as to easily offended nowa days.

lol about the gum, it happened my Mum. (There is my creative writing for the day) She got addicted to gum! Smokers only give up when they want to. It might take a health scare! but everyone is different. I quit years ago cause it was costing me a fortune. If I was still smoking it would be costing me just over 400 euro a month now!

Good for them but most smokers ignore such things. There is no need to spend so much on the dangers of smoking in this day and age

That is just plain ridiculous if you ask me. We already pay over $6 for some of our packs of cigs. Raising it even further is just terrible. This is too much for me - just the whole concept of the government trying to control what we do by how much we get screwed over to have it. It's just not fair. It's like a government-mandated upcharge of 12 packs of Coke - going from $4 to $8 because "it's not good for you" even though it's 100% legal and should just be enjoyed in 'moderation' instead of excess. There are better ways to 'encourage' people to quit smoking - I don't think this is a good approach. I know if I lived in New York I'd be pretty pissed. (Maybe I'd drive to Jersey to get my smokes then, or something! lol). I'm a smoker and most of my family is. I've only smoked for about 5 years and I'd like to quit. It's obviously bad for you and is expensive, but I will definitely be quitting on my own terms - not the government.
