Many, many years ago, before the white man came to America, tortillas were an important part of the diet of the people in North and Central America. They based their food in corn and they made their tortillas with dry corn ground on stones. White men brought wheat and planted it in the rich soil of America. And tortillas were made from then on with wheat and corn flour and used as bread. Why did I start this post? Because A friend asked me what to do with some wheat tortillas she had. She thought they were too many and asked me how could she keep them (fridge? freezer?) I thought about it and remembered the words "give us our daily bread". Tortillas can be a daily meal and there are so many fillings and so many ways of serving them that it is more than the normal bread we use everyday. I love them with black beans, with shredded meat spices woth pimientos and onion, with cheese, with salad. I can cut them after filling them and use them as appetizers. How about you? What to do you with your tortillas? Are you creative? Waht are your favorite ways? Do you feel that 3 dozen tortillas would be too much in a normal household and would waste? Or would different fillings make different dishes? Share!

I have always enjoyed both corn and flour tortillas, but usually only make tacos out of them. I especially like grilled skirt steak in mine. I usually prepare it this way: I use a tiny bit of olive oil and toast the tortilla in a skillet, then I spread sour on one side. I put the grilled skirt steak, chopped onions, cilantro, lettuce, hot peppers, avocados, and tomatoes. I fold it up and wow, a grand of a taco that I enjoy. lol

Now you have a lot more ideas to start with. The tortillas will not get spoiled!. And while checking on other tortilla fillings at the web I came across some appetizers in case you have guests. How about filling them with guacamole, folding it crepe like and citting them in pieces. You can add a toothpick in each to grab them

I am going to continue to follow your discussion as being that there are only two of us here, 3 dozens would seem like a lot of them for us. I do have 3 dozen on hand given to me recently and want to make the best of them. Thank you Marguicha, for starting this discussion, as so far I have learned they do go well with breakfast. I will return to see if there are other ideas, as I also so that they go well with hamburger. Yummy!

We always have a bag of them in the house. We can make wraps, tacos, or even fill them with eggs and bacon for breakfast tacos - they are great! Very versatile and delicious too.

I likethe idea of breakfast totillas (american bread again), but I´d use scrambled eggs, tomatoes and a sauce or avocado paste with a touch or onion. Cottage cheese could be an idea too, with something to spice it.

We usually make quesidillas or chicken soft taco's. We wouldn't keep 3 dozen on hand no maybe 1-2 depends on what I am able to buy and what I know I'd be able to use.

Tortillas can be used as bread so 3 dozen would not be wasted if you had them. Quesadillas are wonderful for breakfast too.

Tortillas are so versatile I use them quite often as a finger food in a cocktail party or as part of a meal when entertaining.

There are a ton of different things that can be made with tortillas. Of course, the first thing that I always think of when I think of tortillas is tacos and that is something that our family eats on a regular basis. Another thing that I personally do on a pretty regular basis is to use them to make a wrap sandwich as opposed to using bread for my sandwiches (there tends to be fewer carbs in the tortillas).

You are absolutly right about tortillas having a lot less carbs than normal bread. And if we don´t overdo with the fillings (skipping fried ones) we will slim down after a while.

Sister Long back i was chatting with a friend in Iowa, she once showed me tortilla in cam, it looked to me, what we call 'chapati', this is made from wheat flour, over an iron pan, some put the rolled thing directly over coal fire to puff, these days i don't eat 'paratha' but only chapati with milk or plain veg curry. usually i take 3-to 4 chapati, about 6 inch diameter, 2 mm thick, mesh in warm milk, add 3-4 sugar free tablets and eat.. try this..

Many friends from India have commented to me that mexican tortillas are very similar to chapati. I suppose that what varies are the fillings. In India, curry is used a lot more that in the Americas and we use more peppers on our food. I´ll answer privatly as soon as possible, dear friend. My cancer has responded well to chemo but I still don´t have until next week the results of the big test that will give a final prognosis. But I´ll talk about that tomorrow. Ignorance is bliss in this case.

I don't often buy tortillas. I sometimes just roll them up with nothing in them and eat them straight and sometime I will just put some cheese on it an microwave it. I usually don't keep more than one package in my house because I don't use them often. Perhaps I should use them more and regular bread less. Have a great weekend!!!

I love tortillas too. i usually buy mine at taco bells or when i want to make homemade tacos i usually add beef, lettuce, tomatoes & taco sauce. I prefer the soft tortillas instead of the crunchy ones. 3 dozen tortillas aren't too much for a household depending on how the tortillas are being eaten it wouldn't waste and another thing you can do is try to freeze the tortillas so they won't spoil

I thought so too. Three dozen tortillas is not that big an amount. And your answer will help my friend a lot as she thought they would spoil. Thanks for sharing!
