Suppose you have a stopover in Amsterdam which allows you four hours in the city. What would you like to do, what would you like to see and why?

I love Dutch painting, if I were in Amsterdam, I would spend as much time as possible in the "Museum Rembrandhuis", (I hope I spell it right), and the Van "Gogh Museum", unfortunately, maybe four hours is not time enough for either one of them. :( Of course, there is a lot more to see in such a beautiful city as Amsterdam, but, this too are the first ones to come to my mind. But, four hours, is too short to really see something.

Yes, i feel the same way, too. Four hours is just too short to spend therein, it is kind of just a stopover time. Usually, what one does within such a short time, will be to find out as to where it is best to eat. Soon after, where will it be to buy some mementos for myself and as gifts for some good friends. i believe that I can no longer spare time for rembrandt and for van gogh either. Seeing places and observing how people conduct their daily lives will already consume those 4 hours.

I would ofcourse first have a ride along the canals which I have in fact done but missed the tulip season and so the first thing I would do when I visit Amersterdam again go into the fields where tulips grow and just be there, flick a few bulbs and learn how to grow them.

Buying tulips in Amsterdam is a good idea. You can get export approved bulbs, plant them in the autumn and enjoy the flowers in spring. Keukenhof is the flowers garden close to Amsterdam where you can see the tulips. Here are photos of tulips and information about the garden in case you would go there. Also nice reading if you don't go. http://www.squidoo.com/tulips-keukenhof-flower-garden-amsterdam-the-netherlands

I have been to Amsterdam and stayed for 5 days, so there is nothing in particular that would attract me during a 4 hour stop. For most destinations I would simply try to see a few of the landmarks or maybe just a little of the city but after visiting once the scenes are nothing new. I did like Amsterdam and would be quite happy to spend another few hours there, although I would probably not bother attempting to see anything special. My time would most likely be spend having a stroll down Damrak and stop for something to eat. It is quite a nice City and that would be a pleasant way to spend a few hours.

I have read so much about Amsterdam. However, if i am given a chance to be there for four hours, I am lost as to how would I like to proceed about going around the place to enjoy it to the fullest. So before I would proceed to that place, I will need to have full information first as to the best places to go and the best things to do.

You can find lots of information about Amsterdam on the net. So, suppose you had these 4 hours in Amsterdam you might like to read/print these. Besides many good travel guide books have been written about Amsterdam. They are also very nice to read when not going places, nice armchair literature

Honestly, all I want to do in Amsterdam is to bike in their bike lanes. Imagine biking without any threat from reckless drivers. It is just so awesome :D

I am not that found of Amsterday too crowdy. But if I would be sure I had time enough I would take the floatingdutchmen. A trip to Amsterdam (btw the airport is not in Amsterdam also but in the Haarlemmermeer) with a bus that goes into the water as well. Would like that but do find it expensive as well. If I take a boat I wont bump into people and I can see the houses and observe people as well.

The Floating Dutchman is a splashing way to see Amsterdam. Is it a boat or is it a bus? It is an amazing trip for sure. I like Amsterdam best early on Sunday morning in winter, definitely not on a Saturday afternoon, too crowded.
