Indecisiveness may be good.

I used to not like my indecisiveness but lately after running into many pompous, arrogant, and sure individuals, I'm quite glad I'm not like them. I think some of the positive in indecisiveness is how careful I really take things to consideration and decision. I'd rather be questioning and finding my own answers rather than always being so sure of myself. How about you? Thoughts?

I think it is very good to know yourself and what you need. Being indecisive can cause problems. Being assertive enough to say you need more time or you aren't sure is a good thing. And, no, I wouldn't not want to be pompous, arrogant or self involved either. Good to know oneself.

That's true, it can be a decisive thing to state your "indecisiveness".

This is true. Knowing yourself is key.

I fall into that group you mentioned sometimes - and it's nothing to be proud of. When one is so confident, when one is sure, one does not listen to council. One does not learn to think before one acts. There have been so many times when I decided within seconds to say or do something that came back to me. Haste and no outside opinions can make for an ill fated decision. However there are indecisiveness is not appropriate. Think of a firefighter. His hesitation could cause lives. He needs to make immediate decisions while on the job - lest the fire get worse. I think a balance between the two extremes is best. There are times when one must act within seconds and there is times when it is best Balance is the best of both worlds. :)

I sure am glad I'm not a firefighter, haha! But I don't know, hopefully my instincts will just move me before my thoughts do, if I ever become one. But you are right, it's a good balance of both. Well, a little more of decisiveness yet moments of indecisiveness when we get carried away.

I agree with that! It is one heck of a job - and not an easy one either! You have a good point though - instincts might carry the indecisive person through. It's is all quite so interesting. Great discussion! :)

Hi there Lore2009! I think that everything in excess, is wrong. It is a good thing to be determined and opinionated at times and there are also times that it is right to hesitate, and take a lot of time to think or sometimes, just go with the flow. It all depends upon the situation.

All I know about this is that I am much more comfortable with things that I am sure about. Indecisiveness is very uncomfortable for me and I find myself giving much more time and energy toward those decisions, even small ones. So many times I just avoid them.

Yes, it's true.. they do drive me over the edge too. But after I realize how much time I've spent on it.. I have less regrets.

Yes I toy with ideas in my brain quite often and do like to juggle back and forth until I find that I am satisfied with my process of elimination. I hardly ever think that I am instantly sure, as I am a heavy thinker and do like to think things through as well.

Me too. I'm glad you do too because you seem to always have good decisions when you answer my discussions. Thanks.

I'm also not a decisive person , I consider everything before making the decision and many times , the pros and cons are almost equal in their weight. Maybe the thing that has to be the breaking point is how we want the world to be like or maybe our own attitude and personality. Take for example Gilad Shalit . He is a hostage of the hamas for more than 5 years now. The hamas want 1000 of their own prisoners that are in israel prison just for letting Gilad Shalit go back to his home in israel. Many of the prisoners will probabely try to kill and kidnap more and more israelis. Many people think that getting Gilad Shalit is not worth it. On the other hand , many people think it is good to have him back home for every price (even many people can die because of the free terorists that we let free). That's because we never abandon any one and every mother in israel can be sure her son won't be neglected in a hostile prison of an enemy. That an image we are proud of but it has a big price to pay. To do the deal or not to do the deal ? That's a very hard decision to make. The right side and the left side are both right from their point of view.

You're right about the pros and cons... that's why it's so hard to decide! Your example is a hard decision that will take many people to decide.

Being indecisive is one trait I hate about myself. My job requires me to make quick decisions that impact a lot of people, and sometimes a lot of money for the company. But I couldn't tell you how many times being indecisive has saved me from losing my job. Sometimes a delay in decision was all I needed from making a catastrophic one. So, I've learned to live with this trait.

I can also be pretty indecisive about certain things. But I don't think that just because someone isn't indecisive, that makes them pompous or arrogant. People can be sure of things, but they can still be open-minded, understanding, or modest.
