Do you drink water immediately after your meal? Do you feel like heavy after you drink? according to what I've research, drinking 2-3 glasses of water after meal may disturb digestion! I know you really wonder. It's because water may disturb the acid in our stomach ( Hydrochloric acid) which helps digest eaten foods.,, any comments? I told my mother about it, she said it's nice to drink water after 30 minutes after you eat. what can you say about it?

Wow never thought that I am the first person to respond your post. Fells great. Yes that's true drink water after meal really disturb digestion and I have been known this long time ago. I did tell my family about this but none wouldn't listen to me. I even told this to my relatives and friends including colleague but it's just the same, nobody listening. They even laugh out loud at me saying that I talk crap, I feel insulted but it's their choice. It's true that after 30 minutes then it is nice to drink but somehow I delay it up until 1 or 2 hours. I eat a lot as my appetite is good but I stay slimmed people said that I just had the body like that but I guess it's the practice that I choose for not drink after meal and even while eating makes me slimmed.

No. I don't drink water immediately after a meal. I usually wait 2 1/2 hours or more after a meal. However, I do drink 2 glasses of water 1/2 hour before a meal and I never drink during a meal. From my research, this seems to be a better way.

Hi... Drinking one glass after meal is good. It'll, in fact, help digestion. But 2-3 glasses is a lot. That would be too much and unnecessary. Please make sure that you drink some water after your meal. Thats necessary... Take care...

I drink water all through out the day. I have a tumbler that can contain 700 ml and I refill it three times but I mostly refill it twice. I think that drinking water after meals are OK as long as you will not gulp a huge amount.

Yes you're exactly correct, Drinking water while taking meal and right after eating is not good especially cold water because it will delay digestion. If it's cold water your digestive system will chill so digestion would also be affected. But sometimes I could not follow it especially when I'm too busy with my work. The proper way of drinking water is 30 minutes before meal and 1 hour after. To avoid stored fats, this is one of the best ways.

I have seen many friends with uneasiness, drinking water to fill their stomach completely after taking sufficient foods. As you stated it leads to incomplete digestion in stomach and further cause total upset in digestion in other parts of alimentary canal.According to doctors excess drinking of water itself may cause problems to health and drinking water after sometimes taking food is a better habit.

I always drink water along with my meal and have not noticed any digestive issues over it. I generally will finish with a full glass immediately after my meal as well. I don't usually time how I drink my water but know that while I finish eating I do proceed to finish the glass I have before me.

We're exactly the same. I cannot control to drink water when I've taken a lot of food. It only takes discipline to follow the right way of drinking water.

I drink water while I eat. Maybe that's the reason of my recent weight lost. I don't know that there's wrong with drinking right after eating, thanks for sharing. I thought water is essential to humans and there is nothing wrong however you drink it.

Nice information. I usually drink 2-3 glasses after eating. Because of this information I'll just drink 1 glass of water and drink more glasses 30 minutes after eating.

Fruit takes about 30 min to digest a hot meal hours water neary nothing. So it makes sense to me. Imagine what happeyns with fruit if it has to wait for hours till it is the fruit its turn to be digested. Same with water. Water is more healthy as other kinds of drinks. I always leaned not to drink while eating. Drinking 2-3 glasses of water is a lot. If you are that thirsty you better have a check up or a better look at the kind of food you are eating. One should drink through the whole day on. With drinking a lot of water at once you can kill a person.

Hi Greninee, to be honest, I have heard conflicting advises all along my life regarding this issue. The advises included drinking often during meals after eating a few morsels so that it aids the food not forming solid lumps, to, when you drink often, the food intake is moderated as you fill the space up with sufficient water! I have also heard advice that one should water immediately after meal as much as to wait for 30 minutes after meal. I think existence of different schools of medicine & therapy makes for varying beliefs & advises. I have found no particular harm or benefit as I have practiced them at various pints of time. With the certainty that one has to perforce drink during meal if one is about to choke. :P

No it doesn't disturb digestion unless you drink too much than what you normally drink. This concern about taking water after meal is answered by a medical doctor here in this website http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/digestion/AN01776 I always read some health related articles here hope it will clear things out for you. :)

I heard somewhere before about drinking water around 30 minutes afterwards. They also said it's good to have a cup of warm tea after meals, though I am not really sure about this part. For me, I don't drink a glass after a meal. It makes me sick to do that. So I usually sip water occasionally from my tumbler.

Hi Greninee Well, ancient texts and natural medicines have always mentioned that you should take water at least after 30 minutes of your eat(dinner or even lunch). The reasons are not only for the Acid Disturbance you mention but also because of the body tempearatures. Anytime we take lunch or dinner, the body temperature rises as the metabolism needs a while and if during that time, water in intaken, it colls the body temperature down. That causes many kinds of gastro ailments.

Wow.. i never knew this before.. I drink water right after eating- like one or two glasses only.. I never knew it can disrupt our digestion. What I know is don't bathe right after eating, but I still do it.

I think its better to drink water after 1hr of your meals..If you have non veg like chicken etc you have to wait for more than a hour to drink water because they take much time for digestion...

I actually have heard of this before, my friend told me that after eating a meal and then drinking water, it's really bad and that it makes you fat. I think what she meant by fat is that it makes you feel a little heavy and bloated as you mentioned. I always tend to drink after I eat and I do actually feel a little heavy afterwards. Now I wait about 10-20 minutes, it should be 30 minutes but I'm so use to drinking after I eat. I should really stop I just drink about one glass after I eat and wait a 2 hours before drinking another. But still, it's better to wait half an hour after a meal before you drink.

I don't think water has negative effects on us. From what I know, drinking 8 glasses or more water ever day is good for our health. It is also better to drink from time to time while you eat and not all at once after. Water actually helps in digestion and it cleanses the body :)
