Does anyone have any good suggestions for other fantasy books that have similar elements to the Harry Potter series? Maybe something that is for an older crowd? I love Harry Potter but I need something new to read!

You could try Terry Pratchett's Discworld books about Tiffany Aching. There are four: "Wee Free Men", "A Hat Full of Sky", "Wintersmith" and "I Shall Wear Midnight". The other Discworld books are good but if you read the Tiffany Aching books in order that is a very good introduction. I also liked Phillip Pullman's series of books "His Dark Materials". As has already been mentioned, "The Hobbit" is a good book and a good place to start with Tolkien before moving on to his other books.

On the Fantasy Fiction side, you can try the Eragon series. It is about a young boy who gets a dragon and their adventures together. The first book of the series was also made into a movie called Eragon. The second one is still being filmed. The other book series you can try is The Bartimeus Trilogy which is also very interesting series about a magician boy and a Djinn. If you are interested in a longer series you can try the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. It is about the struggles of a young man who has to fight against the Dark Lord!! Cheers! Ram

well, not exactly Potter, but try the Valdemar books by Mercedes Lackey - Arrows for the Queen is the first one.

You can try Paul Coelho & Chetan Bagat's Books, which are highly skillful, which gives nice messages also.. Try especially, 'The Alchemist' and 'Five point Someone'..

Well i think its rather impossible to find any other book similar to harry potter .. I mean the entire imagination was totally different. but i have heard Narnia is also interesting and even that is a magical world.. or perhaps twilight saga would suit you better as u want adult stories..
