Finding a job, that is. I was pinning my hopes on that Capita job I went for but, today I received my Rejection Letter, a Rejection Letter that is annoying me twofold. Firstly, they couldn't even spell my surname right (it has an "e" on the end and they've missed it off) and there's no way this could be mis-read as the application form had to be filled in using capital letters, for this very reason..supposed to be easier to read lol. The second thing that's annoying me is there is no direct telephone line to the person who sent the damned letter. There is the main number at the bottom but, do you know something? I really can't be ar*ed!

The yahoo mailbox didn't somehow notifies me of this discussion ,I have just found it when I browse through"discussions my friends started".I feel sorry for that , because that is a job you go for.But then, nowadays it is hard to find an ideal job,so there 's many a slip'twixt the cup and the lip,You neend't lose heart. The Capita's staff simply muddled through their work .That was going too far!He never see how that has an effect on others.

Well, take a deep breath and relax. I know how hard it is these days finding a job. It does not matter what they say on the news about the economy. It's just difficult. Since the holidays are just around the corner, let it go until the new year. Start fresh then and you never know. I understand what rejection feels like, believe me. But you cannot be disparaged over it. Maybe redoing your resume' would help. But, like I said, I think in the beginning of the new year things might be a little better.

There aren't plenty of jobs here I'm afraid. I should've emigrated to Australia in my early 20s..I'm even too old for that now. At 45! I am tempted to ring up but my guess is the woman concerned is on a day's leave. Friday is the worsed day to ring anyone up in an office because many tend to have that day off. I would become even more annoyed if she wasn't there so I MIGHT ring up on Monday; give me a chance to calm down lol. The letter isn't even signed, just has her name typed up at the bottom. How unprofessional is that? Couldn't wait to post it, of course. On Wednesday too..only 2 days to sift through the applications, which is scandalous really as I know many, many people would apply as there was more than one job to go for. Oh, well, it's their loss and as the Dali Lama says.."Everything happens for a reason." How true is that statement?

Hey Janey.. I guess, the job situation isn't too good over there. Here it wasn't good, but these days people can find jobs quite easily. Lama was right with his statement... You lost this one, because a better job is coming your way; thats the most likely explanation. Don't give up! As to calling that office, you must do it to calm yourself.. Just let them know that nothing's ended coz of their foolish letter. Good luck!

I am sorry that you didn't make it into the job Janey. I have been through similar dissapointments myself in the past, and I have always been grateful for my Zen practice, that teaches acceptance and letting go of the past whether it be a minute ago, an hour, day, week or year. Recognizing that that was then and this is now, right here where I am, is a great help. I strongly feel that all such challenges are what supports us in learning life's lessons and once I get to that stage of total acceptance (not easy I know), the things start to change.. I hope that you will have better fortune soon.. _Derek

Thanks Derek. Funnily enough, I was on the Daila Lama site yesterday and his smiling face cheered me up. Such a lovely man. I once read a quote of his which said, "Everything happens for a reason, even if you don't think so at the time." That is so true! The times I've been disappointed in not getting a particular job, only to acquire a much better one some way down the line..then I wondered why I got so upset. I DIDN'T get upset this time, you'll be pleased to know. However, the longer this goes on for the harder it will be for me to find work. I'm 45 now and the clock is ticking. When I was in my 20s it was far easier to get a job than it is now. I really don't know why that is but it's a fact.

Yes Jane.. I would say that everything happens for a reason, and quite often that reason could be something that is more important than this life we live, so whatever is so, we can learn from it, maybe not in a way that our minds will understand, but one in which our inner being will. _Derek

I'm really sorry you didn't get the job. As someone who's a professional job hunter, I'm used to receiving rejection letters all the time. I admit that it really bothered me the first few times I got it, but now I'm sort of numb to it. I just play the numbers game with it. I send out a lot of applications, knowing that I'll receive a few positive and probable leads. And then maybe if I send many-enough, then I might get the job from the few leads I get. Good luck next year!

Well, at least forms have arrived for me to fill in so I can (hopefully) join an online course for free. Don't hold your breath though. I've got a horrible feeling that I might not be eligible because I don't claim benefits (not allowed to because hubby is working full-time) so that would be ironic. I don't get any money but if I did I could go on a free course lol. I'll keep you posted as to whether or not I get accepted.

Going by your account, everything seems so farcical and pretentious. May be they found their mediocre matches and may be you were saved of getting into a place whic might have made you say 'Oh, I'm in a wrong place' . It is tough I know until you hit success but that's endurance which very soon might reward something far better! G'Luck!

That's happened before! Got a job and thought, "Oh dear, what AM I doing here?" lol. I have actually been for an interview at Capita a couple of years ago and was struck by how fed up everyone looked. No doubt I would've ended up like them if I'd got in then or now. It's a massive building with hardly anyone in it as they've got rid of so many staff. Mmm, perhaps I had a lucky escape? It's the only way of putting a positive slant on it. Thanks for your encouragement though; I won't give up, you can be sure of that.

I guess this really proves they actually even "looked at" the application. It is so unprofessional to misspell the name of an applicant, even when saying "Thanks but no thanks."

You'd be surprised how often it happens. John has told me many times he gets his surname mis-spelled by various organisations but, in my case, the fact I'd filled in the application form using capitals should've meant a better chance of them getting the surname right. Not so. I guess it must be an essential criteria of the post NOT to be able to follow instructions and to get things wrong all the time. I'm obviously too good for them lol.

Sometimes its really annoying to be rejected by the company you are applying for, What makes it more irritating is that you thought you nailed all their question on the interview but then you will receive a rejection letter without the explanation. The most common thing you will see in the rejection letter is "your qualification doesn't met the requirement of the job" without further explanation. I think it's really a industry standard not to let the rejected applicant know the specific reason for the rejection.

You won't be aware of this if you didn't read my previous discussion about Capita. The Rejection Letter came to tell me that I hadn't been selected for an interview, so it never got to that stage. Either way it's a disappointment but I dust myself off and move on, it's all I can do.
