I had lasagna for supper and I bit down hard and bit my tongue. Boy did it hurt. Now it is sore but just more annoying. Have you ever done stuff like that?

Worse! I have an SUV. I had something in the back so when I got home, I opened the back door (it goes up). I removed the bags, then as I always do I pulled the handle down to close the door. Normally, I'm out of the way before the door comes down or maybe it just came down faster than normal. Whichever it was, it came down HARD on my shoulder. I had to just stand there for a minute, not moving because it hurt so bad I was nauseous. Once that passed, I closed the door, CAREFULLY this time, and went inside. I looked at my shoulder and saw a huge bruise forming already. This was yesterday and today I could barely move from the pain. It's going up my neck and across my back to right between my shoulder blades. It feels like my arm is about to fall off and the worst part is that it is my left arm and I am left handed. Two years ago I smashed the middle finger on my left hand in the car door. That was a trip to the hospital because I honestly thought my finger was broken. Luckily, it wasn't broken but I did do permanent tendon damage so the end bone on that finger points down now instead of straight out. I'm beginning to think that SUV doesn't like me. Then, today, while eating lunch, I also bit my tongue. At least it wasn't too bad or maybe it was that my shoulder hurts so much that I barely noticed my tongue hurting.

It's funny but I read my horoscope the day after this happened and it said that I would be accident prone that day. I think someone goofed and that horoscope should have been for the day before. How's your tongue today? I hope it's feeling all better. My tongue stopped hurting a long time ago and my shoulder is a bit better today. I was able to use it more today so I'm on the mend. Hope you are, too!

I do it very often. I don't know why. It is just another way of hurting myself. It is completely avoidable and unnecessary.

I've certainly bitten my tongue or the inside of my cheek. Probably the silliest is the time I bit my finger!

Hi Winterose, Oh I feel for you! I have done that and it does hurt really bad. now that i have my new teeth, I am more likely to bite the inside of my lip for some reason. I've not done it in awhile, but I still have the marks inside of my mouth that I can feel with my tongue. It hurts really bad when that happens.

I've done similar things, but I have managed to slow myself down before biting too hard. I did it just the other day, and managed to stop myself. It didn't even hurt after. I guess I was just a little too hungry, and tried to eat my food a little too fast. LOL

Yes, and it is painful. My great aunt was sitting in school one day when she was young and she accidentally tipped her chair over. She bit her tongue so hard half of it was hanging off. They had to take her to the emergency room and sow it back on fully.

All the time! When Iwas young I thought that something minor Had to go wrong for things to go right. So biting my tongue would mean my dinner would be perfect! Now I'm a little less clumsy I guess because I have had times where Everything was perfect!

you literally bit your tongue on purpose, I don't mean just not talking to say what is really on your mind.

Haven't bitten my tongue for a long time, but lately while I'm eating I seem to keep biting the inside of my cheek. What's even more stupid is that after doing it once, I try to take care when chewing in case I do it again, then I do go and do it again! The air here (language-wise) gets very blue afterwards, and I get very annoyed with myself.

I think it is automatic but you might run it by your doctor just to see why you are doing it so often. Maybe it is even a dental thing who knows

Thanks. I do have an illness which sometimes makes me extremely tired, and I have noticed it's when I am tired that I bite my cheek. I have a hospital appointment soon, so will mention it to them when I go.

I have really bad teath. I sometimes have a sharp spot on a tooth and can bite down and cut my inner cheek. No fun! I want to have the 12 teeth I have left extracted and dentures made but I have no money and haven't checked into insurance for this as yet. I don't remember biting my tongue in a while.

Yes, it happens and certainly, not on purpose, but I feel like kicking my rear end for doing such a careless thing. Oops, no, I don't have to kick myself, the tongue hurts real bad, to begin with. I put honey to relieve the pain.

Yes I do, in the past 2-3 weeks more frequently also on the inside of my cheek :-( I have bms (burning mouth syndrome) suddenly. I hope it's the prednisone. So it makes it hard for me to talk, eat etc.

Yup! It happened many times while eating food. Once I was having my food(it was spicy) and suddenly I bit my tongue so hardly. It pained me a lot and started bleeding, it was annoying. After that till 2 days I couldn't have my food properly as it was paining while I chew some spicy food.

I usually end up biting my lip or somehow the inside of my cheek. I know that hurts like heck! Hopefully the pain goes away soon. I burnt the roof of my mouth several days ago and it is still hurting a little bit. I think I feel a little blister up there on the roof of my mouth.
